A long way away at the top of a hawthorn on the common was a bird sunning itself this morning. Neither Anthea nor I could see what it was but a shot with my telephoto fully extended revealed a Thrush which I was pleased about because there aren't many around.

I learned from The Country Diary in The Guardian today that a study of ringed bullfinches over many years has revealed that they pair for life so our bullfinches are a happy little couple.

:Cool: a nice surprise to see the thrush Eric ... i did that once with a woodpecker , couldn't see what it was , guessed and confirmed when i cropped the photo at home :yes:

I hadn't heard about the bullfinches ... it'd be very sad if one of the pair disappeared as there seem to so few about these days :( In the past we used to have several fruit trees in the gardens but maybe the lack of them is a reason for the decline ........ fewer orchards as well and nasty pesticides sprayed on trees :yep:
