Thanks Ann and Dave. I am sure there must be some nests in our thick hedges. I even wondered whether there is a pigeons nest in our conifer. A pair of wood pigeons were doing a lot of billing and cooing earlier on and I have seen both of them flying in and out of the tree often. I have also seen a couple of little brown birds flitting in and out of our holly hedge but they are a long way down the garden and my eyesight isn't good enough to see what they are. If Mark were here he would tell me he has eyes like a hawk and spots things in the distance that I can't see are there.

Thanks Tabatha and Julie. When my father was alive he had one blackbird who seemed to inhabit his little garden and he managed to get it so tame it would feed out of his hand. He started by leaving crumbs on the flat top of a stone wall near their kitchen door but gradually it got used to his presence.
