A conker and case

This is some sort of case, the nut (or whatever has already come out). Does anyone know what it could be?

In my quest for Autumn Challenge photos, I ventured just a few hundred yards from home this morning. There is an open space called Shenstone Park.

Posted Image

The chestnut trees are well on the way out now. Hence this carpet of leaves by the pavement.

Posted Image

Acorns, the oak trees seem to be quite green at the moment.

The remains of a tree in the middle of the open space

The rest of it is still looking very green at the moment.

The chestnut trees by the roadside. Most of their leaves have dropped.
