I think most of us will have seen the effect of the Horse Chestnut Leafmining moth on Horse Chestnut trees but due to the infestation they are now vulnerable to other diseases - scientists think that this tree could be wiped out within 15 years http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/17/conkers-could-vanish-from-britain-within-15-years-as-horse-chest/ I heard this on Radio 4 this morning and they were asking for reports of the condition in Wales and Scotland but I can't find a link for reporting

That is worrying, Grayling. We have been noticing for some time that some Horse Chestnuts look as though they are turning until you get close and the leaves look diseased. Our kids loved playing conkers. |

Grayling , i saw an article on TV from Wisley to show one sad old tree we had plenty in Devon with the problem .I hope conkers from the non affected trees are being saved and nurtured , we can at least be trying to grow some new ones .... like the Ash we have to keep the trees going . Mine aren't affected so i'll sow some of the seeds

It is a shame that they seem to have given up planting any new trees,it would be good if they could produce a starain that would be resistant to disease. There seems to be plenty of conkers about this year anyway. for the link Grayling

It's certainly bad news and this has been going on for a number of years now, i'm no exactly sure what the answer is but we surely can't lose one of our most iconic trees, trees that have formed many childhood memories for countless millions of people. |

Such a shame I really hope they can find a solutionNow, if every child could take a conker and plant it somewhere...
