Butterflies in the UK have suffered one of their worst years on record, with 70% of all species experiencing a decline in numbers over the past year, according to conservationists. The annual UK butterfly monitoring scheme (UKBMS) found that 40 out of the 57 species studied saw numbers drop between 2015 and 2016, making 2016 the fourth worst year on record for the insects. Thanks for that Grayling , grim reading . Yes lets hope for a better 2017 but the weather is very changeable ![]() Interesting that the notice is pinned to what looks like a mature elm tree I have seen a few in Devon but most only get to hedge height for some time now

It is very sad to read about such a sharp decline in the number of butterflies,they are such lovely insects and one we all enjoying seeing in summer . Thanks for the link to the article Grayling.
