Thanks all. As with any photography good preparation is essential but for landscapes sometimes, like the one above, you just happen to be in the right place at the right time; and it makes up for the times a potentially good sunset just fizzles out altogether.

I know what you mean Dave. We have been in certain places when a sunset looks really promising and it turned out to be a very poor affair.

The recent eruption of Calbuco reminded me of the effect on a few sunsets of the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in 2010.
