Males, for the obvious reason, get the plaudits for sheer colour but i think that female Mandarins have beautifully subtle and distinctive markings as well Mick.

yes dave, i really liked the female and to be honest never realised it was a female mandarin because of the contrast. the eye marking is lovely i think.

I'm pretty sure they do Jen. I have seen a few birds, Chaffinch in particular, being aggressive towards their reflection in a car wing mirror.

the blue tits at my house go mental attacking my car mirror during the breeding season and i have heard of crows going that far attacking reflections in windows they end up bleeding!
