This thread is an early history of Rydicia, the fallen empire in which the campaign will start and most likely end in. I present the information in a timeline, to make it a little easier to digest. The dates follow the Rydician Imperial Calendar, which is still in use as of the campaign's begining. It's important to note that these are the facts as Rydician historians record them, not neccisarily as they actually happened. I'm going to begin with the events that lead up to the founding of the empire, with more history to follow in other threads.

-20: Rydicia's history begins two decades before the founding of the Imperial Calender. Adventurous pioneers flee the dangers in nearby lands, and come simultaneously into the vast rolling landscape that will one day become Rydicia.

-20: In the south, bands of opressed Humans, Dwarves and Orcs flee conflict in the Feather Fields. In the shadow of a three part war between the native Red Crest clan of Hobgoblins, Blood-Drinker Gnoll clans, and The Orcs of the Boar Tribe, displaced refugees flee the carnage and band together to form a safer, less violent society.

-20: The numberless hordes of White Orcs in the north overrun the Dwarven nation states spread across the Razorback Mountains, sending the surviving Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings fleeing across the range into what will become northern Rydicia.

-20: The Rise of the Fomors; Fomorian tyrants in the Feywild rise up from the Feydark with their twisted legions in tow. The eldritch giants succesfully sack many Eladrin holdings in the Feywild. Eladrin and Drow are alike are forced to flee the realm of the Fey as the Fomorians add the arcane plunder of both species to their hoards. The displaced Eladrin and Drow flee across planes into the heart of what will ultimately become Rydicia.

-20: Quickling and Goblin assasins murder Entosial, The Black Stag King, hero and lord of the Elves of the Viridian Lands. The assasins flee into the Feywild, using a path between worlds in the Drifting Glade, at the heart of the Frosted Forest, in northern Rydicia. They are pursued by vengeful elves, but never caught.

-15: Numerous border towns dot the foothills of southern Rydicia, as Humans, Orcs, and Dwarves fight side by side against attacks from the Feather Fields, repelling sorties of Hobgoblin and Gnolls into the foundling towns. In this time of strife, Humans and Orcs intermarry, leading to a high number of Half-Orc births.

-15: Dwarven refugees establish a series of semi permenant fortifications in the craggy foothills of northern Rydicia. Gnomish refugees attempt to flee to their ancestral homes in the Feywild, only to be caught in the iron grip of the Fomorian tyrants that have come to rule that realm. Led by the pioneer Nimble Crawler, halfling refugees sail down the turbulant waters of the River of Fortune, settling further south, where the river terminates, in the Silver Stepes.

-15: Refugee Drow turn on the fleeing Eladrin, initiating the Spider Canyon Massacre. The drow flee into the Underdark before surviving Eladrin can retaliate.

-15: Lesuvan of the Hart, Warchief of the Elves, oversees the construction of a series of permenant communities around the Frosted Forest and surrounding lands, to watch the Fey portals for any sign of the return of the Goblin and Quickling assasins that escaped through them.

-10: The Red Crest Hobgoblins emerge victorious over the Blood-Drinker Gnolls and Boar Tribe Orcs. Chieften Darheel Red Crest begins a campaign of genocide against the Boar Tribe, and within a few years, the Rydician Half-Orc children are the only surviving Orc presence in the region. Alone against the wrath of the Hobgoblin armies, the Gnolls slink into hiding.

-10: Nimble Crawler discovers the tomb of a forgotten king below the Silver Stepes, piled high with the treasures of a bygone age. The town of Crawler's Hollow is founded on the sight of the find, and becomes a boom town overnight, as Elves, Eladrin, Drow, Orc, Half-Orc, Halfling, Gnome, and Dwarf come together for a share of wealth.

-10: The Red Dragon Twauglamathar devastates the Dwarven holdings in the north, forcing the dwarves to abandon some of their smaller holdings in the area. The rampaging Red Wyrm pursues the fleeing dwarves to the Fort Ironfast, where his rampage ends in the death of the exiled dwarf King Arl the First. Arl's son slays the Red Dragon, and assumes his father's role of King in Exile. In honor of the lost dwarves, Fort Ironfast is renamed Fort Redmortar, and Arl the Second becomes known as Arl Redmortar.

-10: Fleeing Eladrin retribution, the Drow discover The Secret Sea, a vast Underdark ocean that runs beneath the length of Rydicia. The drow establish several colonies on islands within the Secret Sea, and treaties are hammered out between the Drow and other races in the region, as the Drow sell the right to tap the underground sea for wellwater to surface dwelling races.

-10: Elven watchtower cities begin to vanish into the Feywild, their inhabitants found dead of poison, or never dicovered at all. Lesuvial of the Hart find the Green Dragon Eschaveria is behind the disapearences. The Elven huntres tracks the Green Wyrm to it's lair and slays it in an epic confrontation. Lesuvial raids the dragon's hoard, and shares this wealth with the surviving Elven communities.

-5 Darheel Red Crest completes his campaign of extermination against the Orcs in The Feather Fields, and turns his gaze and his armies northward, toward the surviving Boar Tribe and their children in southern Rydicia. The Red Crest marches on the cities of Boarsgate, Hammerheim, and Dirkgaurd, being repelled each time with heavy losses on both sides.

-5 Clan Redmortar expands deeper into Rydicia, founding and defending a series of mining colonies throughout the foothills of the land. Dwarven miner's dig into the tomb of a lost civilization, and lay claim to it's wealth.

-5: The developing city of Crawler's Hollow is beseiged by a flight of Silver Dragons. The Dragons make several raids on the city's treasury in an attempt to lay claim to the wealth Nimble Crawler discovered five years earlier. They are eventually routed when the clever halfling adventurer tricks one of the older dragons into swallowing him whole, and then releases a magical blast from inisde the wyrm's belly.

-5: Drow discover a sunken temple below the Secret Sea piled high with the wealth of a bygone age. Matriarch Vice, a high priestess of Lolth founds the city of Draug-Mathor (Golden Webs in the drow tongue) atop it's ruins. Within a year of the city's founding, it comes under assault by the Gold Great Wyrm Amberillu. Matriarch Vice and forces loyal to her slay the great wyrm, and the Matriarch's throne is carved from it's skull. Although it is widely believed that the Eladrin had a hand in guiding the dragon, no proof is ever discovered of this.

-5: In pursuit of the missing Elves, The People of the Hart spread across the land and through portals to the Feywild. There they discover the holdings of the Fomorian Kings in a state of decay and abandonment. The mad giants of the Feywild are at war with one another, and much of their stolen wealth lies abandoned. Elvish explorers return to their homes with vast treasures of fearie gold. The half-elven wizard Edderik Blackhart presents himself before Lesuvan of the Hart, claiming to be the only begotten son of the slain Elf King Entosial. His claim is found to be true, and a the People of the Hart are torn as they are forced to accept a half-human king. Internal strife is avoided, however, when Edderik's magic locates the missing elves, in the clutches of a rapacious nest of Green Dragons, the spawn of slain Eschaveria. Edderik and Lesuvan mount a daring rescue, slaying the vicious dragons and returning the captive elves to their homes.

1: The founding of the Rydician Empire, and the birth of the Imperial Calender.

1: Arl Redmortar, Matriarch Vice, Nimble Crawler, Lesuvan of the Hart, and Edderik Blackhart sign the Pact of the Dragon Crowned. Each member of the Pact is a mighty hero who has slain a marauding dragon in defense of his or her newly adopted land. The five agree to share their found wealth across their land, and unite under one banner, forming a new Empire, Rydicia. With wealth and power divided between the five rulers, Rydicia is able to finance a massive campaign of expansion, and towns and cities soon dot the Rydician landscape.

So there's Rydicia's ancient history up to it's foundation as a nation. This history all occured a very long time ago, but hopefully it will be helpful for you guys to get immersed in this culture. Let me know what your thoughts are.
"Our time has come. For three hundred years, we prepared. We grew stronger, while you rested, in your cradle of power, believing your people were safe, and protected. You were trusted to lead The Republic, but you were decieved, as our powers of the Dark Side have blinded you. You assumed no force could challenge you. And now, finally, we have returned. You were decieved, and now, your Republic shall fall."

Well, I am assuming you are not looking for us to correct any historical innaccuracies, so what were your thoughts on expected replys?

I think the format works well enough for us to read and take in.

Just any sort of feedback at all. If there's something you don't understand or have a question on, feel free to ask. Is it too much information at once, or not enough? You know, just stuff I can keep in mind when I write the next one.
