What games are you playing?
Feb 21 2010, 02:08 PM
Seems like you and D.J Cat have been having some good, wholesome quality time with your N64s!!!
Oh yeah, and it continues on Sunday!

Firstly, I forgot about the Snowboard Kids on the Saturday night, Nancy (me) dominated!

Sunday started with another full play through off the tracks in Mario Kart 64, 4 player, some great moments as always, everyone was yelling and making a noise.
Then there was some Zelda: OOT, James showed us the invisible Link trick, pretty funny.
And THEN, F-Zero X, mostly X cup, lots of great moments, some huge take-outs, and it ended with the map of the last track being mysteriosly shaped liek a wang...very immature I know.

Then there was a bit more Mario Kart 64, a big session of Mortal Kombat Trilogy and then some Goldeneye.
A VERY good weekend!

Super Player's Journey 64
Maybe cause Banjo's sisters name is Tooty and was a main character in Banjo-Kazooie.
And then never appeared in Banjo-Tooie.
Haha

I'm curious to hear where Mop is up to, if its a new game or if he couldn't help but play through Banjo-Tooie.
Fantastic game, so big!

OH wow.
Paper Mario, and Paper Mario Thousand Year Door are SOOOOOOOO much better than Super Paper Mario.
Go for it!

Ebay is pretty good, but you should still check 2nd hand shops, etc, you can find some of th emost unbelievable bargains by dumb luck.
Few years ago the video shop near where I lived was selling off all its N64 games for $5 each. Still kinda kicking myself for not buying Paper Mario!
But I got 8 games for $40 including Donkey Kong 64 WITH an expansion pak.
And my friend got Perfect Dark with expansion pak for the same price.

Also, its really encouraging to see people your age appreciate the N64.
I've been playing N64 with someone your age a bit lately, even though everyone else was playing new games (mostly Brawl in the other room), it good too see some people play games just because there more fun and not care that they're old.

Music and Movies
I have a very vaired taste in music, i guess I'll just list some of what I've listened to lately
Michael Jackson, The Bee Gees, ACDC, Regina Spektor, Daft Punk, Iron Maiden.

What games are you playing?
Got some great multiplayer action yesterday.
Started on Friday night Smash Melee and then Mario Kart 64, we went through all the courses, i got 6 wins, James got 7 it was VERY close! That game still has it!
Then we continued with Mario Tennis, i won all the singles matches (we usually only play doubles) then had a little bit of Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
Played a little Brawl on Saturday, but then we went back to some quality Mario Tennis doubes, had 9 holes of Mario Gold (lol, harry). That was followed with a couple of games of Superstar Soccer 64. the commentating is SO good in that game...the way he says NORWAY! and Wales.
Then some more Mario Tennis and we finished with a Bonding session, liscense to kill with pistols.

A good weekend..
and thats only so far!

Oh yeah, i forgot, on Saturday morning we took it in turns in Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4, lol, the first challenge at Kona they spent about an hour trying to do it, the downhill old schol snake salmon run.

Diddy Kong Racing

However, even today when I'm able to look back and see faults with a game that I didn't as a kid who was impressed with a monkey flying a plane inside a volcano, I still think those reviews are absurd.

a monkey flying a plane inside a volcano. :D

I have very fond memories of this game, and on top if that, its still a very relevant and modern game to me, I still play it if I get a decent opponent, and I played thrugh the whole thing again a couple of times a few years ago.
I don't lose my form on this game anymore, i jhust pick it up and was as good as I ever was.
This game is still pretty impressive to look at, the music is fantastic, and watching 2 people who are good and equally matched who DON'T use the button mashing BS (HEY, just because you CAN do it, doesn't mean you SHOULD! ) is great.

Interesting N64 facts FAQ
Sep 30 2007, 07:35 PM

-Perfect Dark was originally going to be able to use the Gameboy Camera to import faces to be used in-game but was takin out due to 'School Shoot outs'
Although if I remember correctly they said it was because it was too buggy, but the school shootings is probably the real reason.
I remember reading about it in magazines back in the day, it was only cancelled pretty damn late in the development of the game.

What games are you playing?
Started playing Twilight Princess again earlier this week.
Almost thought cbf early on when I couldn't work out how to catch a fish, but I'm glad I persisted, I think i might go through with this...

Super Player's Journey 64

This subject always reminds me of Jet Force Gemini. Did anybody else nearly throw their controller at the screen when they discovered they had to go back to every stage they hadn't cleared of all tribal hostages? Mean-spirited game development at its absolute ugliest.

I must be the ONLY person who was I don't know...relieved and excited when I found out that.
If it wasn't the case and that was the end of the game it would have felt like I hadn't done everything, it also gave me the chance to keep playing this wonderful game, explore new worlds, use the new power-ups and generally just keep existing in the brilliant universe that is that game.
I played it nearly non-stop for 6 weeks (in-between school) and loved every moment of it.

Spoiler: click to toggle

-I agree with ya Mop about Banjo and Mario, and how they shouldn't be compared.
They are too brilliant, but different games.

Most Worthless Nintendo 64 Game
Jan 26 2009, 05:56 PM
In Australia, I'd say that the most worthless N64 games would be the various basketball games. Those seem to be the ones that are both the cheapest and easiest to find.
I would say it was Forumla One World Grand prix.
I saw SO many copies of that game back in the day (as in just a few years ago).

Super Player's Journey 64

I'd forgotten how enjoyable this game can be. I'm actually tempted to continue with it, but I'm not sure. What really brings this game down is that it has one too many collectibles. Mostly, that would be the 100 notes on each level that annoy me. Since they must all be collected in the same run, it can be a real chore in the later levels which have a few places with cheap deaths. There's also the Jinjos, I hate those little colourful bastards.

The reason I haven't tried playing this game again is because of the parts that I found to be a chore. What if that would no longer be the case? Maybe now that I know almost everything about the game, or would remember it when I got to that part, perhaps it wouldn't be so much trouble on a second time through?
I don't think this game has to many collectables at all.
MAYBE I can understand why people say that about Donkey Kong 64 (I still disagree) but Banjo-Kazooie would be FAR too short and easy without taking away what it already has.

And yeah, the game is very enjoyable on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 69th play-throughs.
You remember what to do and how to do it, it doesn't take long and its very enjoyable.
You get to enjoy that music, the characters, the humour, the worlds, all of it, all again. ^_^

List of 3rd party Nintendo 64 titles that does not require Controller Pak
I have about 6 controller paks, It gets/got very hard to keep track of them.
3 or 4 of them are just for one game, like Turok 2, ISS98 and 2000.

There are some good things about the memory card, like being able to transfer data between games and take it to a friend splace.
I'm trying to think of the games that utilized it the best...

Post when you buy or sell a Nintendo 64.
I already have 2 N64s, have been thinking about getting a third one for a while now.
One is set up in my room, one on the balcony, and as such I always have to pack one up when i take it to friends for multiplayer goodness.
Which is 9 out of 10 weekends.
So I want a third 'travel" N64 so I don't have to constantly re-setup the other ones.

I still need to show pics of my gaming setup/s. ^_^

I plan on saving at least $105 for an Nintendo 64. What else do you think I need for an Nintendo 64?
Maybe a few controllers. Other than that, you just need some games.
And a few friends who will play multiplayer with you.

Might as well get a job first.
Haha, yeah.
Thats cool though.
Not many kids these days have enough respect for the :n64: , and you want to work JUST to play it.
Thats dedication. :yeah:

And yeah, debit cards are absolute win.
Paying with your OWN money, I wouldn't do it any other way.
Credit cards ARE stupid and worth hating, the concept behind them is utterly stupid as well.

Good luck! ;)

Play an N64 game...
Feb 14 2010, 06:05 PM
I use strategy guides for some games, there are some things that can be quite frustrating otherwise... for example, in Crackdown I have collected 348 of 350 secret orbs. I'd spent tens of hours searching for the last few agility orbs (which I eentually found) and subsequent hours searching for these last two secret orbs. If I'd used a strategy guide to mark off what I'd collected then I'd have them all by now. >_<

Hmmm, yeah for that sort of thing I should just look it up.
Unnessesary frustration thanks to rediculiously hidden things you'd never find otherwise are worth finding out.

Also yeah, Start a new file. That will fill the moat back up. -_-

Play an N64 game...

I just beat Super Mario 64 for the 2nd time, the 1st was back when it came out. It was great, took about a week, playing on and off. I must admit though, I used the strategy guide quite often. Mainly only after I got 70 stars and beat the final Bowser.

I've never been very good at video games, just consider myself casual gamer, and I really only play the 64. Do you all use strategy guides, or frown on them. I only try to use them when I need it.

It was great beating the game again and topping it off with meeting Yoshi on the castle.
Uhhh, not a fan of statergy guides, takes all the fun out of games!

Haha, I remember I was stuck on 119 Stars on Super Mario 64 for over 6 months, I played the game nearly every day, i even had dreams about getting that last star, finally got it though, it ws the beat Princess Peach's slide in under 21 seconds.

New to the site.
Haha, I'm not very good at Smash at all, but its a great way to find new people who play N64.

New to the site.
Ooh cool.
Good to see people see that actually owning the console is so much better then Virtual Console. :)

Oh, and do you play Smash at tournaments or anything?
Who do ya play?
