Gamers with Families
I make it a point to find a good balance between virtual and reality. For example, I never play video games when I'm out of the house and I always make it a point to visit friends and family to stay connected to the real world.

In today's world there's no longer a stigma to being an older gamer. It's somewhat a reality since video games are expensive enough that the industry can't thrive by appealing just to children.

Japan gets all the cool stuff first. :(

Mario Kart VR

I like the way you have to pluck your items off the floating ballons!
I am a VR-a-phobe, but THAT IS AWESOME!! And you really throw green shells!

I also enjoyed your thoughts about Mario Kart GP . . . I'm routing for a port collection to the Switch. Namco & Nintendo, make it happen!
Most VR software I've seen so far hasn't really impressed me much but Mario Kart VR is the exception. I love the way the Piranha plants look so menacing and the hang-glider time is more immersive than ever.

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX on the Switch would make sense to hold fans over until Mario Kart 9 is released. It's gotta include multiplayer, though, because the games get boring quickly without it.

I'm wondering if the release of the Xbox One X will drive down the price of used S models?

Xbox One X Unboxing and Hands On!

Anybody here getting one?

What's the last thing you ate/drank?
Just had a breakfast burrito with a cup of hot Maxwell House coffee and some slices of an unnaturally delicious Honeycrisp apple. Never heard of the Honeycrisp, well it's the most sought after apple here in North Carolina where I live and it's super tasty by design.

The Nintendo Switch Topic
GameCube controller support is a huge plus for me since I've got so many of those lying around and I also have the USB adapter that I bought for the Wii U. My excuses for not buying a Switch are slowly being eroded away. :D

To be honest, I'd probably be more interested in a non-portable Switch that's always docked. I wonder if Nintendo has any plans to release something like that for those of us who never game whilst out of the house? Maybe call it the Switch XL or something and bundle it with the Switch Pro controller.

Super Mario Odyssey ships tomorrow, who's getting it?

Really hoping Nintendo releases a new special Switch edition! :w00t:

Anybody who hasn't figured it out by now, about the only Nintendo games I play nowadays are Smash and Mario Kart. :-8
you'll be happy to know then, mario kart 8DX plays very nice with the gamecube controller
Yeah, I figured that would be the case. Since I've played so much Mario Kart 64, Double Dash and Mario Kart Wii with the GameCube controller, playing MK8D with it would only seem natural. :D

also, those smash controllers are legitimate; the cords are so much longer than the regular GC controllers. i can comfortably play from the back of my sofa with these.

i was surprised by how much these bad boys have gone up in price. 70 euro for the adapter, and 90 for the controller?? insane!
I got this Japan exclusive white GameCube controller for less than MSRP on the black ones here in the States back when these were relatively easy to purchase online.

This topic got me wondering how Nintendo is going to handle GameCube controller compatibility when a Super Smash Bros. game finds its way to the Switch. You know the die-hard Smash fans are going to demand some sort of solution. You think Nintendo will patch in support for the GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U and start selling them again? Maybe rebrand it as the GameCube Controller Adapter for Switch.
Latter-day Nostradamus strikes again. ;)

Now Nintendo just needs to start manufacturing GameCube controllers again because prices have crept up around $75 for new Smash Edition ones.

Super Smash Bros. 4 Deluxe?

Finally got to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe since my local Walmart has it on their Switch kiosk. To my eyes it looks noticeably better than the Wii U version to the point that I want a Switch now.

What a year it has been. The Switch went as what some perceived as Nintendo's last ditch, Hail Mary to stay viable to a top selling console. The concept of the portable console seems to be a hit, not the gimmick some feared. And after Wii U years of game droughts, it is literally raining games right now, with the biggest anticipated Switch-exclusive, Super Mario Odyssey, due out in a week.
I'm hoping Nintendo sells a shipload of Switch consoles and copies of Super Mario Odyssey this coming Friday. :D

The Switch is definitely being marketed better than the Wii U which probably explains why Nintendo has already sold over 6 million units. That's an impressive number especially when you consider that the Wii U only sold about 14 million units during its entire lifespan.

Dragon Ball FighterZ
Dragon Ball FighterZ is scheduled to release in February 2018 for the PC, PS4 and XB1 but not for the Switch. I wonder why?

Dragon Ball FighterZ
Hey ItalianBaptist, just out of curiosity, are you a Guilty Gear fan? I'm just wondering if you played Guilty Gear XX Accent Core on the Wii and became a fan of developer Arc System's fighting games. I've never played an ArcSys game myself but on another forum I frequent regulars there swear by the company. That's partially why I'm so enthusiastic about Dragon Ball FighterZ since I'm not really a fan of anime.

Could this mean that more kid friendly software is coming to the PS4 in the future?

The Nintendo Switch Topic
Wii Classic Controller Pro's and Wii U Pro Controllers have been steadily going up in price lately so I wouldn't be surprised if eventually they sell for as much as Switch Pro Controllers.

Well thatís cool!
Yes it is and it fulfills Nintendo's initial promise that the Switch will be able to interact with devices we already own. Shame that Nintendo didn't include this option themselves. <_<
$70 was a bit steep* but I've seen the Pro Controller retail for $60 more recently. Not sure how much that adapter is, but the gap narrows a bit.

As far as Nintendo making its console compatible with controllers for other consoles, you cannot really fault Nintendo for that . . . they want to make some money selling proprietary controllers and besides, there is no precedent for that. Nevertheless, a cool development . . . thanks for posting it, Grizz!

*The kids wanted a third Xbox One controller for some 3 player WWE action. The new ones (which have some wicked designs) were running $70 at GameStop. Settled on a used plain red one for $55. Sure makes the Pro Controller pricing seem like its in the right ballpark.
Yeah, asking Nintendo to make the Switch compatible with rival companies' controllers isn't really very reasonable. However, I still believe native support for the Wii Classic Controller Pro with some games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokken Tournament DX should have been an option right out of the box. It would have helped soften the blow to those of us who supported Nintendo's worst selling home console and possibly incentivized us to buy a Switch sooner.

I haven't purchased a Switch yet but I haven't completely given up on it either. Surely Super Mario Odyssey will move many more Switch consoles off of store shelves but I'll probably wait until either Mario Kart 9 or a price drop before seriously considering buying one.
