Blade Runner II ?
This trailer gives me chills! :w00t:

Blade Runner 2049

The Nintendo Switch Topic
I'm looking forward to January 12th but I'm still perplexed as to why Nintendo wants to launch the Switch in March.

When Shawn Layden stepped out on stage wearing a WipEout T-shirt, I kid you not - my eyes widened and my heart beat a little bit faster. When he mentioned getting grief last year over his Crash T-shirt at PSX, I thought "SHUT UP"... and then within a split second of the following trailer, I was in total disbelief... WipEout LIVES!!! :w00t:

Realizing a few seconds later that this was probably a remaster, that these were all sights/tracks I'm INTIMATELY familiar with (which was then confirmed as a remaster by the end of the trailer) my excitement died down a little bit. But still... the fact that it's coming back as a collection for PS4 proves that Sony isn't ready to kill off the franchise, despite their shutting down Studio Liverpool.

So I'm still, QUITE stoked! :yeah:
Will I actually play the collection though?? That I'm not so sure... I've spent literally hundreds of hours between WipEout HD, Fury, and 2048, and I rarely ever re-play any games...

Plus... the thought of facing off against that Elite AI again... *shivers*
I never got around to buying a PS3 so the Omega Collection has me giddy. :w00t:

With the WO:OC reveal and the possibility of a new Samurai Shodown game on the PS4 in 2017, I'm really looking forward to the new year!

I was a bit bemused that they shut those servers down.
Surely, for Nintendo that couldn't have been that big of a drain on their income...
The excuse given for shutting down the official servers for both Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Brawl among other games was that GameSpy could no longer maintain those servers. :-/

It's a real shame because I find Mario Kart Wii to be more enjoyable than its successor Mario Kart 8. The latter has better graphics but with respect to gameplay, I find Mario Kart Wii to be the ultimate expression of the franchise. Perhaps that's why Nintendo has sold a whopping 35 million copies and is still selling it new at retail over 8 years after its initial launch. :o

Quite possibly my favorite game of all time is Mario Kart Wii. Sadly, Nintendo allowed the official on-line servers for the game to be shut down back in 2014. Luckily there's still a completely legal way to play MKWii with other people over the net via CTGP Revolution. :yeah:

MK8 Races This Saturday 12/3 @ 10:30PM EST
I'm not sure I can do it this weekend but next time we try maybe we can leave out the CPU controlled racers?

The ultimate N64 joystick refurb? SS + teflon
These joysticks look like lovingly crafted works art on par with a Faberge egg. Very nice! :yeah:

The Nintendo Switch Topic
So glad that Nintendo is making sure potential buyers know exactly what the Switch really is. Seems like they've learned from their mistakes launching the Wii U.

I'm hearing that the Switch will have GameCube games in its Virtual Console library. That's nice because copies of Super Smash Bros. Melee are getting a tad pricey nowadays.

Smash Bros Retrospective
It's amazing to me how well Super Smash Bros. 64 has held up. I own both the North American and Japanese cartridges although nowadays I mostly play the Virtual Console version on my Wii.

Sm4sh on the Wii U isn't bad but I much prefer to play the soft mod Project M 3.6 on my original Wii. Although it was tailored to appeal to Melee fans, casuals like myself can still enjoy it given its enhanced speed when compared to Brawl.

The Street Fighter Thread of AWESOMENESS
I purchased Street Fighter V at launch this year and then kinda got tired of its many glaring flaws. Tonight I decided to fire it up again and was pleasantly surprised at how much it's improved. Here are the controllers I use when playing.

Adore the one on the right because it reminds me so much of the classic Sega 6-button pads of yesteryear.

@Grizz: I took a look at his incredible Deviant Art page . . . no Wiis.
Sad. Maybe we can talk him in to doing one.

By the way, have you ever seen this Wii stand before?

Horizontal Stand for Wii

I really want one but it's nearly impossible to find now. :(

Punch-Out Wii
Those who like Punch-Out on the Wii may also want to DL the WiiWare title Rage of the Gladiator. :yeah:

10$ is cheap but im sure you can score a complete new copy for 20$ at your local video game shop.
Yeah that's right since SMG 2 is now a Selects title you can buy it brand new for just 20 bucks.

Hey, has Zoki ever performed his artistry on a Wii console? If so I'd love to see it.

Wow. I didn't know they made Trinitrons in that size. I bet that thing looks magnificent in person.
I was shocked to find out commercial grade Trinitrons came this small too. It blows my mind that it even has component inputs.

For the time being I'm going to stick with my 20 inch Toshiba flat-tube CRT since it's slightly larger and also has a really crisp picture with standard definition consoles. Here's a pic of it.

Just pulled the trigger on a CRT!!
Recently I picked up this 13 inch Sony Wega (model number KV-13FS100) that a guy on Craig's List gave me for free.

He still had the original box and the remote which made the 40 mile drive out to get it completely worthwhile.

Immediately when I got home I connected my Wii to it with component cables and started playing Samurai Shodown II so I could calibrate the picture. It looks great although it's a little washed out in the photo because of the flash from my camera.

I'm probably going to put it back in the box after a few days and store it in my in-law's basement as a spare in case my 20" Toshiba CRT ever fails.

@Grizz: that's the MK wii I have! Might get Galaxy per your advice!
10 dollars for a game as good as SMG 2 is simply too good a deal to pass up. I'll gladly recommend that bargain all day long. Ought to make a nice stocking stuffer. ;)

You can buy "refurbished" copies of Super Mario Galaxy 2 directly from Nintendo for just 10 dollars plus shipping. I bought a refurbished Mario Kart Wii as a backup and it was essentially a brand new game that came in a specially marked case with no instruction booklet.

MK8 Tourney SATURDAY, 12/3 @ 10:30PM EDT
Mario Kart 8 is a drop-dead gorgeous game but there's no denying that it has flaws. One of the biggest issues with the game is the item distribution which doesn't really allow racers towards the middle or back of the pack to make spectacular comebacks. This is quite a contrast from previous installments in the franchise and part of the reason why many of the Mario Kart cognoscenti dislike MK8.

I will say that the netcode is fairly solid in 8 and was especially so last night since all the human controlled racers were in the United States. I remember racing with Boomdiers (who resided in Australia, if I recall correctly) and seeing him teleport all over the track during our races. None of that happened last night as far as I saw.

Apparently Nintendo is aware that the item distribution in Mario Kart 8 deviated too far from the norm as it appears the Switch version, which some are calling Mario Kart 8.1, will restore the ability to carry two items at a time. Hopefully this will rekindle the magic and excitement of the multiplayer racing masterpiece many of us here revere called Mario Kart 64. :)

Great racing tonight, folks. It was lots of fun! Hey Shellshocker18, were you ??? from Tennessee? If so then you've got some mad racing skills. :yeah:

About joining races, if it kicks you out of the tournament then you have to get in by joining a friend. I used to do that all the time by joining BDR because I used to have that same exact issue when we were originally doing the tourneys.
