What are you doing RIGHT NOW?!?!
Right now I'm wondering why this Staples back to school commercial features such exotic dancing.

The Wii U Topic
Pokken Tournament looks interesting.

I'd love to see it come to the Wii :Wii U: here in North America. :w00t:

Back to MK8, if anyone is having a hard time pulling up the new onscreen map (cough like me cough), you need to select "-" ON THE GAMEPAD ONLY regardless of the controller being used. And you do so at the race screen.
I had a hard time figuring this out too. :-8

The good news is that you only need to do it once and it stays that way every time you boot up the game.

I think it may be some time before Grizz is separated from his silver arrow!
I absolutely love the way the W 25 Silver Arrow looks, sounds and performs!

Curious; was fire hopping removed in the recent DLC/update?

With the release of Super Smash Bros. IV this holiday season, I suspect the Wii U is going to be an extremely hot commodity so don't expect any kind of price drop on the console between now and then.

On the new VR threshold, can you imagine the amount of points on the line when the average racer in a 12 racer field is like 55,000 VR?? :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:
Yeah, that's gonna be insane!

More random MK8 DLC thoughts:

1) I've raced on-line using all the new Mercedes vehicles and I now know which one I'm going to use in our Friday night races. 8)

2) Is it my imagination or has item distribution been improved?

3) Checked my stats and I've performed 7402 Super Mini-Turbos and a whopping 21592 Jump Boosts! :o

So far it looks like I won't be able to make it this week, but I've said that before and still showed up so who knows
It's more fun when you race with us so I'm hoping you can make it. :yeah:

I'm still disappointed that none of our European members get in on the fun. :(

So far I'm loving the DLC but I wish Nintendo had added another perk for collecting more gold coins. Maybe some special edition gold Mercedes concept car or something. X_D

I'm not a VR hog (presently hovering around 6300) so I have no problem with Nintendo bumping the limit up to 100k. :P

Looks like I might be racing Wario in a Mercedes Friday night. :D

Random thoughts about the update:

1) Finally, an onscreen mini map! :w00t:

2) The Mercedes W 25 Silver Arrow is fast! I beat my previous Moo Moo Meadows Time Trial ghost by a full second with it.

3) Checked my stats and I have over 15,000 coins!

I love free Downloadable Content (DLC) although now I'm counting the days until the next DLC in November. :-8

I generally hate paying for DLC but in this case I don't really mind given what you get for the money. I'm so looking forward to driving the Blue Falcon from F-Zero in MK8! :w00t:

Zelda, F-Zero, and Animal Crossing Content Coming to Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart 8 is getting some substantial downloadable content starting in November. New characters, tracks, and karts will be added to the game featuring content from many of Nintendo's other franchises, including The Legend of Zelda, F-Zero, and Animal Crossing.

This content will come in the form of two DLC packs, each of which consists of three characters, four vehicles, and eight tracks (some new, and some old). Some of the new tracks will be set in Zelda and Animal Crossing locales, while Mario Kart Wii level Wario's Gold Mine makes a return.

Each update will include:

3 new characters
4 new vehicles
8 new courses

The first of the two packs--The Legend of Zelda pack, coming this November--will include Link, Tanooki Mario, and Cat Peach as characters. The DLC will also include the Blue Falcon from F-Zero as a drivable kart.

The second pack--the Animal Crossing pack, coming in May--includes the Villager, Isabelle, and Dry Bowser. By buying both packs, which will be available individually for 7.00 GBP (an official price hasn't been announced for the US yet) or in a bundle, you'll also get eight different colors for Yoshi and eight different colors for Shy Guy.

Details on the packs were posted to the Nintendo UK online store here and here earlier today. An image for the Zelda pack appears to show Excitebike and F-Zero levels, while the other pack shows off a new, Animal Crossing-themed stage.

Here's a really good cover of Don't Fear the Reaper.

Almost as good as the original and equally as spooky.

Play an N64 game...
Played a little Last Legion UX (Japanese N64) this morning. Since I used to be a big fan of Mecha games, Last Legion UX brings back fond memories of the late 90's when me and my best friend Doug played almost any giant robot game we could get our hands on.

The 3 Armored Core games on the original Playstation are still the high water mark of the genre with Frame Gride on the Dreamcast coming in 2nd. Last Legion UX feels somewhat like it was inspired by Sega's Virtual On but it isn't nearly as polished as that arcade tested classic.

Glad to see someone who has a box for Last Legion UX- was beginning to think it didn't have one! ;)
I also have Last Legion UX complete. Had a friend send it to me from Japan back when I was really in to Mecha games. Is a CIB version valuable?

Mercedes Benz Karts arrive as free downloadable content

Mario Kart 8 news
Although the Wii comfortably outsold PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Nintendoís latest console, the Wii U, hasnít been as successful. Thatís left Nintendo open to ideas it might previously have dismissed. For example, next week sees the launch of free downloadable content for Mario Kart 8 that adds three Mercedes Benz models to the gameís list of wacky cartoon vehicles. Naturally, the sturdily engineered German automobiles have been given cute, bulbous makeovers and are just as susceptible to spinning out when they hit a banana skin as the gameís existing karts, but this still marks a significant departure for the usually highly conservative Japanese game-maker. There will be a special Mercedes Cup online tournament available to players with an internet connection from 27 Aug (the 22nd anniversary of the launch of the very first Mario Kart) to 23 Sep.
