Best and Worst N64 Box Arts
Like the Body Harvest box art because I find it alluring, I can imagine someone back in the day seeing this cover and having to go pick up the box just to see what the game is
Posted Image

The PAL version doesn't have the the same impact. It's very in the nose and I'm not a fan of the orange color
Posted Image

One of my favorite hints about 5th generation art is that companies used these high quality 3D renders which are higher quality then the games themselves, but they look weird because video games never evolved to look like this
Posted Image
Posted Image

Funny thing is the Quest 64 manual has a bunch more of these cool renders, Brian has a weird face and is way taller than in the game
Posted Image

The PAL art is both more accurate to the game and actually makes it look like the game would be pretty good
Posted Image

Now Fighters Destiny is cool. As a wise man once said, "that's a fighting game logo built to last"
Posted Image

It's a bit of a rip off of Tekken 3 but it's still fine
Posted Image

No wonder let's look at some art I don't like. First of all the badass logo was replaced with a jaggy red and black one which I don't understand. 2nd is that this looks like the art for some 80s home computer game or a Japanese nes game. Anyone who has seen those games knows what I mean, the real proportions but with weird angles and shading, it's hard to believe this art existed in 2000. This guys face says he just crapped his karate pants and he is about to stick his gross foot in your mouth. Plus the background, I'm not a fan.

I may come back to this thread. But for the record most Japanese games like Majora's Mask and Sin and Punishment have badass covers and Centre Court Tennis is one of the worst.

Lol, what what weird favorite game

Here is the run I mentioned, where 3 minutes he he mentions that the game has a Japanese version, A European version, and 2 North American versions and he clearly states how a glitch only works in the first North American version. I'm inclined to believe him. I haven't watched the whole thing in years, I don't know if he mentions anything else in the run but he did help me appreciate Castlevania 64 as a fun game.

The channel is formerly, CosmoSpeedruns and there are several Castlevania 64 runs on there. He is one of the greatest speed runners ever in terms of garnering a lot of viewers. I would tell you to just go ask him but I think he is too far gone. It's a little awkward but Cosmo is still around. He had a transition into Narcissa Wright, which isn't a huge problem but he went absolutely crazy, I believe he now resents speedrunning, and is very close to killing himself, the whole situation isn't pretty and approaching him directly for comment is probably not something he wants to hear.

Castlevania 64 ROM revisions
Well, it's been a long time and I can't find a text list of the version differences but I know Speedruner Cosmo Wright has commented on some of the differences between versions. Unfortunatly Cosmo started having many mental problems and took down tons of his old runs and I don't even remember which ones he comments on. You should watch some though, they are quite entertaining.

The only thing I can recall is a glitch where you can slide down a sloped cliff and jump to skip part of the first level when normally you would die from fall damage. I think it was fixed in the second version probably along with other miscellaneous glitches. If you're majorly curious you could try asking in the Castlevania 64 section on Speedrun.com. There are only a couple of guys there but if anyone knows the differences it's them

August Game of the Month Vote Off
For the record I've never played it so I literally don't care. I have played Armorines though. Talk about generic

August Game of the Month Vote Off
Wrong Stinger. You ignored my S.C.A.R.S. nomination.

*I will remember that

I shall cast my vote at a later date as to strategize my choice after seeing what others vote for though I stand that Bomberman Hero is my favorite of the 6 candidates

Quest 64 is brutally easy, and the Japanese version was actually made even easier. You'll find out about it soon enough

Any exclusive N64 gamers?
I might be one of those guys lol. I have been for several months now. I was never steeped in N64 when it came out because I was a toddler but around 2014 I got into this system.

I've stopped counting but I've beaten about 60 games this year and like 50 were N64 games though not all of them were new games I haven't beaten before. I played a couple Nes and Snes games at the beginning of the year and I still occasionally play a game of Smash Bros 4 with my cousin but I'm completely enveloped by N64 at the moment. Due to the high density of games I have beaten and played extensively I was asked to help write the N-Cyclopedia 64 by a good friend of mine, so I'll be busy with N64 for a few more years it seems.

At this point I went on a tirade about how few people want to talk about N64 games that aren't heavy hitters, collectors and video game store owners who know less about their possessions than I do, and my own disappointment for my lack of game talk on the forum lately since I've been putting all my energy into my writing. But I deleted it all because it was very whiny. Point is I like N64 and would like to be a guy people come to when they wonder about games no matter how obscure or crappy they are.

POLL - When Did You Last Buy a N64 Game?
I purchased Fighter Destiny 2 in December after figuring out the first game was the best :pottymouth: ever. Then I was gifted Snowboard Kids 2. Then I bought an everdrive and stopped giving a toss

N64 games you would love to exist?
I mean Street Fighter Alpha 2 is on Snes, albeit with lag and reduced animation. Rakuga Kids only has a 12mb cartridge but it has 8 characters all with over 400 frames of animation at 60 fps. I'm not sure how much animation Street Fighter 3 has, but I think with a full 64mb cart it could have been possible, maybe with some animation cut out or less detailed backgrounds. It's just that it wouldn't be worth the effort to try, like Milage said Resident Evil 2 was surprising for Capcom to even try, although for that game most of the cartridge is just FMV not actual gameplay assets.

I wish there were more game show games, Gametek got Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy before they went out of buisiness. Last night I didn't want to get my Snes out just to play Family Feud :cussfit:it.

August Game of the Month Nomination Topic
Can't wait for that region thing to be removed. If I can't vote for Tamagotchi 64 I'll vote for the next best thing. S.C.A.R.S.

Shellshocker18: Gaming Achievements
Well I've added many games since my last post, both Clay Fighter games, beat S&P on Hard mode twice,Tamagotchi World, Nightmare Creatures, Snowboard Kids 1 and probably others.

I'm nearing my 100th N64 game (if I counted 2 Tetris games I'd be at 100 already). This may be a landmark moment since I may never make it to 200, so leave a suggestion and I might consider it if it's a game I have any intention of playing . So no Banjo-Tooie or Pokemon Stadium. Hell pick two games, the 99th game is just as monumentous and I don't have plans as of today. Or don't pick anything. I don't need your input I'm perfectly capable of picking my own games.

N64Forever Beats 'Em All!
It's been a while but I've got another Japanese game, Tamagotchi 64: Minna de Tamagotchi World, which took me 2 hours to finish a game against 3 cpu's, then I played a game with my cousin which only took 45 minutes

Posted Image

There are 59 Tamagotchi to earn at the end of the game. This was the one I got.

I want to save my brain power for the coverage I'm going to give is game for the N-Cyclopedia 64, but this was a board game made by Hudson that has 4 player minigames released a year before the original Mario Party. It clearly was the inspiration and Nintendo wanted Hudson to make a similar game for them. This game is much more like a board game though.

Minigames are 1 of the many spaces on the board and you can go like 30 minutes without Landing on one. There are only 10 minigames so Mario Party definitely took that concept much further. It's got really nice 2d visuals and the Tamagotchi gameplay is integrated into board game form as the goal is to be the first to fully evolve your Tamagotchi or be the last one to not die. Evolving happens by earning transformation points by landing on certain spaces. There are powerups cards which have different effects on other players, each turn you roll or use a magic card, and then you basically have a choice to feed them, clean their crap so they don't get sick which lowers the roll of the dice, discipline them by punching them so they listen to you, or play with them in a 50-50 guessing game which can net or lose transformation points, but any action costs energy. Going around the board and reaching the GO space again will increase the energy kind of like Monopoly Money.

There is a lot more to it that I will get into later but it's a pretty easy game to say I finished. As a board game it's fine but I think the lack of minigames mean it can get repetitive for people faster than Mario Party, but it's influence is really fascinating. There is some voice acting cutscenes and a tutorial with a vocal musical, some of the soundtrack even got a CD.
