As far as I recall, Invisionfree's own archives are only kept for a short while as an emergency backup (for example, if the board should be hacked and all topic were deleted), but after a while that info is lost. Our own archives let us keep topics that are years old. Obviously if the invisionfree archives were kept long term there wouldn't be a need for read-only boards, such as our own archives. We'll continue to archive our own topics until a better or easier solution is found.
