Yeah it's a pretty weird controller. It's the most comfortable controller I've ever used, three-pronged monstrosity that it is, though recently I've taking a liking to the Wiimote/Nunchuk combo. I have this feeling that Nintendo initially wanted to replace the D-Pad with the analogue stick, but somebody (possibly third-parties?) talked them out of it. At the very least, the D-Pad was an afterthought; Nintendo didn't consider that it could be used in addition to the analogue stick so they gave it its own separate handle, to be used with games that wouldn't benefit from the stick. |
