Jet Force Gemini Review By Rapueda Story - Who cares! This game isn’t about a story! It’s about shooting big, blue ants with big, powerful weapons. Graphics - 10/10 - They are amazing. Each planet has its own look to it, and you can see into the distance forever without any fog. Occasionally, there is some very, very slight slowdown, but it doesn’t interfere with the shooting. It’s still a wonder why Rare didn’t make the game Expansion Pak compatible, and how the game would have looked if they had. Sound - 10/10 - The sound effects are great, but they don’t stand out in comparison to the absolutely fantastic soundtrack. It adds so much to game by giving it such an epic feel. And it always perfectly fits each planet. In short, JFG has one of the best video game soundtracks ever. Note: the songs are available for download for free at Rare’s website: www.rareware.com. Controls - 5/10 - The controls are the only major bad point of the entire game. First of all, when you’re moving the control stick and then stop, your character still takes a few steps before coming to a full stop. However, once you get used to it, it isn’t much of a problem. Unfortunately, there is one other control problem. To manually aim, you hold down the L button, and your character becomes transparent and stands still, and cross hairs appear, which can be moved with the control stick. Precise aiming is very difficult, however. If you try to move the cross hairs slightly, they usually move a large amount. Gameplay - 10/10 - Blasting bugs is fun. Very fun. There’s plenty of ammo and health laying around, so you can jump into each firefight without any fear. There’s also plenty of exploring to do. On most planets, there are sections that are only reachable by one of the three characters that you can play as. These three characters each have their own special abilities - Juno can walk on lava, Vela can swim underwater, and Lupus the dog can hover for short distances. There are keys and weapons to collect, huge bosses to defeat, and even a pair of pants to find. From start to finish, the game is a blast to play! Overall score - 10/10 - It’s a masterpiece, and should owned by all N64 owners! |
