The original is for Dreamcast, the sequel is for Gamecube.

I've played Skies of Arcadia! I bought the Gamecube version (Skies of Arcadia Legends) when it came out, and played it through to the end. I really enjoyed it, although the random battles could be frustrating at times because they're far too frequent. But the story more than make up for it... I really liked the

I played Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure today for about 2.5 hours. Honestly, I intended to only play it a few minutes to try it out, but it immediately hooked me and I couldn't stop playing. It has a charm to it that really draws you in. It's certainly not for everyone though -- the story is about a girl trying to live out her dream of falling in love with a prince. The game basically does with ballads what most RPGs do with FMVs, which I find to be interesting. The dialog is cheesy in an enduring sort of way ("If you lose, the game will be over and you'll have to watch this scene all over again!"), the villain has a host of adorable kittens in overhauls to do her nefarious bidding, and so forth. Though many people don't seem to like it, I really can't find any design flaws.

I'm 6.5 hours into Blue Dragon.

So far its enjoyably, although cheesy. Its really just an updated version of Dragonquest VIII, but minus the decent characters and weapons and replace them with shadow things.

Graphics are pretty and the battle system is alright. The music is also pretty good so far.

Its three discs long, which is kind of weird.

I only ever played the demo of Blue Dragon but that was enough for me. It seemed to be pretty generic RPG fare but with annoying characters and not much fun. :-/

The demo was ****ty.

The actual game seems much better, but I dunno.
It doesn't have any guns in it (except for one minor thing) so most people won't like it these days...

There are other good reasons to not like it -- such as being extraordinarily derivative and having character design that is simply too DBZ-like, even more so than DQ8.

Then again... turn based!

And Uematsu!

FIX'D

;)

Seriously though, Eternal Sonata seems a lot better... but then my opinion is just based on the Blue Dragon demo...

Lost Odyssey looks like it's gonna be good, though. Gamespot haven't scored it that highly (7.5), but Gamerankings is showing a slightly higher score:

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/928334.asp

I think I'll be getting this when it gets released in the UK. :)

So Alxbly, did you end up getting Lost Odyssey? If I was to buy a 360, that's the first game I would buy.

None of the three new systems are excelling in RPGs yet. The 360 (to my surprise) actually has the most RPGs with a total of... 5 (and Oblivion doesn't count!). The Wii has Opoona. The PS3 has none (with two Final Fantasy titles coming -- eventually). On the PC side, there's Fallout 3, though that will also be on the 360 and the PS3. I suspect Bethesda is going to turn it into something like Oblivion with post-apocalyptic humor. I suspect the genre is starting to sputter. Perhaps the increase in popularity of games and the rise in production costs makes it difficult to develop a traditional RPG?

Random: From GameFAQs, some user posted a list of all PSX RPGs released in English. Here it is. I've crossed off all the games I've played.

Nope. I've too many role playing games to finish just now although I may buy it if I see it for a reasonable price. I'm in no rush as GTA will probably take up most of my gaming time for the next few weeks.

One RPG I did nearly buy recently was Aidyn Chronicles for the N64. But the bidding on eBay went too high.

Too high being over $1.00 USD?

I've heard bad things. Given my 20 minutes of experience with it, I'm inclined to say bad things too. But maybe it's like Arcanum, taking a long time (really long time) to reach full steam.

What about Ogre Battle 64. It might be hard to find, but it's definately a well recieved game. Mind you, I love Quest 64, but I digress.

Aidyn Chronicles isn't as bad as people say, but getting to the point where it gets fun takes a while. It has a vibrant story, as well as great characters, but the graphics(and collision detection) are a bit on the low side. Stats are DnD like, so that might make it more interesting, but I'd try it before you just automatically trash it.

True, I might not like the game, but it's not my cup of tea. I like games that are a bit more forgiving.(in other words, I like to REVIVE my team)
Even bastards need to let off some steam.

Just got it a few days ago. Seems good; the story is well told, the setting is well thought out, the characters seem quite interesting and the battle system works alright. I'm only two hours in so I'll post more when I've played a bit more. :)
