Can we change ISPs?; The PAGE NOT FOUND problem is increasing

The chances of a PAGE NOT FOUND style error seem to be increasing, it seems to me. I don't have this problem with any other forum. Is there any chance of N64F moving to a different ISP (and taking all current and archived posts with it, except for Dagoss's, obviously)?

The amount of bandwidth your posts consume is probably the reason we have problems with Invision!

It would be nice to have an N64forever.com. Then the site could branch out beyond typical forums and we could have like content (though content we produce probably isn't of any value to the world). However, no one should be forced to pay for hosting fees or going to the trouble of running their own server. I wonder how much better we can make our forums while still paying no money?

We can't really complain about Invision -- we pay nothing and get a good deal out of it.

Rapueda and myself have both deleted and/or archived our old topics, but there's still a lot of older topics here. I was hoping this would reduce the instance of these error messages, since N64 Answers doesn't appear to suffer from the same problems. Of course, I'm assuming it's simply the volume of posts we have here that causes the problem. Since removing the old posts/topics, it seems to me as if the instance of "page cannot be displayed" messages has decreased.

I may, of course, be completely wrong.

I actually haven't gotten any of those error messages lately.

...Except I got one just now. Interesting...

Now I understand why GameFAQs deletes old topics. I guess we should decide what's more important: old topics or less errors. Perhaps we should hire a user called the Purge Monster, who goes through old topics and deletes them.

Well, N64 Answers is on a different server than N64 Forever, so it's hard to compare them. I think it might not have something to do with how many posts we have, but rather, how many people are currently using the forums on the server, because the errors seem more frequent at certain times. It is a free site, after all, so we shouldn't expect it to run flawlessly.

Of course, I don't really know anything about websites, so there's a good chance what I said doesn't make sense.

It just seems strange that N64 Answers hadly ever gets error messages. I've only ever had one in the three months the site has been running. If it was just related to the server then surely N64 Answers would be affected by busy periods as well?

I dunno. I have no idea about this kind of thing either... ^_^

I'm gonna try to keep up on cleaning out old topics (it's hard to let go of them sometimes, though :( ). It had been almost a year and nothing had been deleted. Let's give it a little more time and see. Also, if the forum was ever moved, the old topics would probably not be able to be moved, unless someone here knows of a way. :-/

I'm just assuming that you have no access to the database files (why would a free service give you that after all?)

We should probably implement some sort of auto-purging for topics that haven't been used in like 3 months or something. We probably have a lot of useless topics that could be deleted without a tear.

Just to be certain, banning Kerr Avon isn't an option is it? I mean, would could save a lot of bandwidth!
