Ever wanted to take a game out a console and repeatedly smash the thing against a wall until it breaks in your hand? Maybe there's a feature that ruins an otherwise good game? This topic is to discuss bad games and/or bad elements in games. The game I'd like to discuss is Die Hard Vendetta which I recently rebought for Gamecube. I remembered having fun with this game a few years ago, but also remembered that the controls weren't very configurable. As one of the few I thought it was maybe time to give the game another go and, prompted by it's low price and good condition in a local pawn shop, I bought the game for the second time. As I don't want this post to be too long, I'll simply list what makes Die Hard Vendetta an incredibly frustrating game:

When I think of bad games, the first thing I think of is MRC (Multi Racing Championship) for the N64, followed closely by Driv3r, which is far worse. There's little reason to like Driv3r. It's easily the most glitchy game I have ever played. The missions are a pain in the neck. The motivation for the missions is to unlock a third level for "Take a Ride" (free roam) mode. In take a ride, you can kill people, drive cars and that's about it. In a nutshell, Driv3r is GTA without the things that make GTA fun. It also has rubbish controls. One (the only?) good point about Driv3r is the movie director mode, which lets you see replays from different viewpoints, with slow motion and motion blur etc. However, even this has problems. It only lets you see the first five minutes or so from when you spawn. You can't do much worth saving in five minutes. I've also had an occasion where I went up a ramp (in a car, obviously) and jumped a gap. In movie director, the car didn't make the jump. Also, I've got a MRC related question. Does anyone else think the countdown you get when you're running out of time sounds like a countdown for a space shuttle taking off? |

Driver 3... doesn't that sound a bit better than Driv3r? Anyway, what with civilian characters falling out of the sky, cops so determined to chase you they'll commit suicide, police cars that drive into the water when chasing after a speedboat and various rather nasty looking glitches, this is one game I'm glad I only played the demo for. Please, please, please... anyone who hasn't seen Driv3r in action please watch this video of Driv3r's ridiculously stupid Police AI and outlandish "movie" physics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dn9zgskKeTU Try not to laugh.

That game looks fun. I'd get it, but the GCN version was canceled.

call me weird, i don't think driver 3 is all that bad. it is kind of glitchy, but i haven't experienced anything bad. mostly just mild visual glitches. i thought it was mildy fun, but it didn't have enough to it to keep me going when a tough mission pissed me off. i think i only pays $14 for it used though, so maybe that is why i don't mind it being a dissapointment. i think if gta and other good gta clones didn't exist, driver 3 wouldn't seem as bad. every time i go back and play it i am first struck with "this isn't so bad" and then after 30 mins i am thinking "this could have been so much better!" |

Level 30 Necromancer/Master of Quest 64
|
Driver 1 was awesome and Driver 2 was better. Mind you, I've only played the PSX versions, but they work for me. Plus, easier to store overall. Anyway, Aidyn Chronicles fits the bill. Basically, it has everything Quest 64 lacks, but lacks everything that Quest 64 has. Complete opposite. Literally. I still can't stand FF7, but I won't go into that one, as it's not a bad game. Thus, I go into FF11. I'm sorry, but what MMO can have a good solid storyline? Oh, wait it can't. FF is all about story, even the not so awesome stories(FF8, CC) are still pretty damn good. MMOs can't have a good story because of the players. Hell, even Quest 64 can have a better story than a MMO. |

Yeah, those are real replays edited together. Just think how annoying the police are when you're trying to complete a mission... damnnnn!

I must ask you, what do you use in Goldeneye? Do you not move the analog stick with your left thumb and press the Z button with your left index finger? The control configuration which you have described is the only one I'll use in an FPS. There's a HUGE downside to having move/strafe controlled by the c-stick. You cannot move and switch weapons/open doors simultaneously. That's a far, far worse disadvantadge than having your hand twich ever so slightly. |

^ Yeah, in Goldeneye it's not an issue. Guess the problem here is down to other factors, like the amount you need to pull the Gamecube's trigger buttons (given that they have more travel than the N64's trigger). Luckily Nintendo have went back to proper triggers with the Wii! My main gripe is not being able to configure the controls as I'd like. You've already mentioned the problems with having move/strafe on the c-stick (which I agree with). That's not what I'd want to change; I simply want to move fire from the R-trigger to the L-trigger! |

Well, since the discussion seems to have shifted to controls... That wouldn't help either. Moving the main analog stick and pressing the L button simultaneously would actually be more awkward. IMO, Timesplitters 2's controls are as good as it ever got for a Cube shooter. Configuration really wasn't an issue if they don't need to be reconfigured to begin with. ATTEMPT TO STAY ON TOPIC Ever played Xenophobe on NES? I couldn't even consider that a game! *Shudders* |

It works really well, actually. I've used it on other shooters. As for the discussion being being 'off topic'... well, you could read the first post:
i.e. controls. |

You can use the analog stick and L button simultaneously... but not the C-stick and R button? No offense, but you're WEEEIIIIRD!!! |
