^ Good point. I guess the Halo franchise was just too important to risk losing. |

Wow! This is very surprising news. I wonder if we'll see some Bungie releases on the PS3 or Wii in the near future? |

I reckon Marathon on the Virtual Console is more likely now. |

Not so sure. After all, the marathon games were only released on mac/pc, they can't just put the rom on the VC
Could be cool though. |

Wasn't Marathon released on Xbox arcade? This is surprising and (I think) good news. |

Rare is 100% owned by Microsoft now. I don't think they could split even if they wanted to. Anyway, I gotta ask why your so keen to see them split from Microsoft. |

^ I completely disagree. Lets look at what console games they released after the N64. Star Fox Adventures Grabbed by the Ghoulies Conker Live and Reloaded Perfect Dark Zero Kameo Elements of Power Viva Pinata There's not a bad game amongst them. Rare maybe didn't release anything as exceptional as they did on the N64, but they're games certainly don't suck either. |

Not really. They aren't innovative or genre breaking, but I mean -- I think I enjoyed all of their post-Nintendo games more than DK64 or Banjo-Tootie.
Should I have not put it in my signature then? |

Fame at last. Rare's N64 out was great, but they weren't all faultless classics. Mickey's Speedway is decent but not great, Donkey Kong 64 had forced exploration, Perfect Dark had a great multi but the last few single player levels aren't so good. Killer Instinct Gold also seems to split opinion. |

I personally think that Nintendo 64 fans tend to overrate Rare's contributions to the Nintendo 64. Clearly some of their games (e.g. GoldenEye 007, Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark) were some of the best on the system, but the company wasn't exactly the Holy Grail of video game developers. |

THe Donkey Kong Country series is what really got me into the DK games, DKC2 is still my fav of the 3. Rare was pretty good on the N64, and Starfox Adventure was a pretty good game as well, though the Xbox 360, out of all those they released, which ones are absolute buys for the console? |

^ Viva Pinata is an essential buy for the 360. It's genuinely enjoyable, engrossing and totally different from anything else. Conker Live and Reloaded should have been an essential buy for the original Xbox. But I think the problem is to do with demographics... Rare are still churning out very bright, cartoony games which most Xbox or 360 users seem to ignore. When they produce something mainstream (like Perfect dark Zero) it sells in the millions. In fairness, they did experience similar difficulties on the N64; Banjo, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and DK64 might have sold well but Conker, Jet Force Gemini and Blast Corps did not. |

Exactly my point. When Rare was with Nintendo there wasn't many mature games for the N64. When Rare jumped over to Microsoft, Microsoft has more Mature games on there console than the Nintendo 64 or Gamecube so Rare would probably get ignored. |

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/914939.asp 71% based on 96 reviews. It didn't set the world on fire, but it wasn't a bad game either. It was kinda short though. |
