More news stolen from

http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6180818.html?a...estnews;title;4

The makers of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Bioshock, Jade Empire, Mass Effect and other key franchises/series are now under EA control.

Expect loading screens asking you if you've "challenged everything yet", similar to those that were incorporated into previously non-EA published games like Burnout and Timesplitters. Oh how those games benefitted from this corporate ****. >_<

The plus side is that EA will be prepared to throw money at these games, the downside is that they will inevitably have an EA makeover. Sometimes those polished graphics don't quite make up for everything else.

And in case my opinion on this isn't clear:

This is a mildly lamentable. Bioware was involved in the very best CRPGs -- Baldur's Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape, etc. They have not made anything of late to be worthy of my astute taste, but the fact that they were involved in some of my favorite games is sadden enough that they have suffered the fate of being EA-ized.

Have you played Bioshock?

I haven't updated my hardware since 2003. Bioshock is one of the first PC games to come out that I cannot run. I don't own a 360 nor know anyone in Buffalo that owns one.

I call a boycott on EA Games!

My opinion is exactly the same as Alxbly's. ;_;

Whilst I don't agree with their aggresive stance in the games market, I don't feel strongly enough to boycott their games. If they ruin a license I like then I might change my mind...

Hopefully a boycott won't be necessary. >_>

I hope a boycott is necessary. We could make posters and stuff: "EA? More like EGay!" and other such fun stuff. Plus burning things is fun.

ha, didn't notice this topic.
Indeed this is really sad news :(
They were the last talented CRPGs makers out there, with Black Isle and Troika gone ;_;

Well, it's not like they've been shut down either, but we all know how an annoying publisher who's in a rush can **** up a game (KOTOR2 anyone? :( )

And Neverwinter Nights 2, both made by Obsidian. There really aren't any decent CRPG developers left. There's Bethesda I guess, who now is in control of Fallout, though Oblivion was as much a pander to its console community as it was a decent game. I don't really see how a new Fallout can be made without drastically altering the formula. There aren't many gamers left that would enjoy something so slow paced and meticulous. On the console front there is a somewhat similar situation now that Enix and Square are one.

Ah, cheer up. EA have managed to not ruin Burnout or Timesplitters... yet. As long as the gameplay is good I can't say I care all that much who publishes a game.
