Anyone else psyched for this game?

I played the demo a few months ago and it blew me away. I'm really looking forward to this one!

If I had a 360 I would be. Unsung War was spectacular. There certainly aren't any other fight games being made that are in its league. The 360's power can probably do some amazing things for the series.

As an aside, if a Pilotwings Wii is ever made, I will have forty-seven simultaneous orgasms and fall over dead within 6 seconds of hearing the news. It's been over ten years, where's my promised sequel?

We're both waiting for that announcement, David. I'd love to see a Wii Pilotwings game. It could work so well...

It's probably a mistake -- thinks like this happen all the time. There is that Wii Motor Sports Airplane game that was shown at E3 (I think), which looked like the spiritual successor to Pilotwings, but there isn't anything official that I know of. Hudson made a game called Wing Island, but it looks like it blows.

But just in case, I'm preemptively declaring 25 January New Easter, for Goose may rise again!

Got this game on Friday. It's good. Actually, it's very good. The story is kinda cheesy but it does make you think about what it would be like if it was our country that was being invaded for a change. Not pleasant... and I feel my normally rather right wing stance on war coming into question. Anyway, it's game so onto the important stuff.

The planes handle beautifully; they're a real joy to fly. The graphics are jaw dropping; the jet fighters are all very detailed and life-like, the scenery is amazing, there's no draw distance that I've noticed and the effects (mid-air explosions, etc) are all quite convincing. Sometimes I find myself forgetting about the enemy on the more forgiving missions and exploring the landscape instead.

A good feature is the replays, which show you your last mission from various very cinematic camera angles. It's here that you get to appreciate just how detailed the planes are. Admittedly, like most replays, the novelty wears off pretty quickly, but it does look stunning.

The difficulty of the game picks up quickly. You're soon fighting against the clock with an enemy force which more often than not outnumbers your own. There will be specific targets that you need to take down within a time limit; for example, bombers on-route to an airfield, or a enemy with a deadly weapon. It's all good stuff and certainly no walk-over.

Not taken the game online yet, but with up to sixteen players things should get very interesting. I'll let you know how it works when I've tried it out. :)

Sixteen person multiplayer? If I remember correctly, Unsung War didn't even have multiplayer! Is it just like dog fights?

Politics in games is unimportant? Games aren't immune to being, like, intellectual and all that... thinking stuff.

No, they're not. But in the general scheme of things, being political doesn't make a game good... or bad. It might add to the story but gameplay is always going to be more important. Would you play a crap game just because it tried to be political? Probably not. What AC:6 does is make you question the validity of war, which is definitely a good thing... but most gamers probably won't care. Sorry fellow gamers.

It has a range of modes that you can play:

Team battle - 16 players split into two teams for a vs dogfight match.

Battle Royal - 16 players, every man for himself. The person with the highest score wins.

Seige - 14 players split into two teams, one offensive team and one defensive team. Offensive team must destroy targets, defensive team must protect them. The game's over when the timer reaches zero or when all the targets are destroyed.

Co-op - 4 players play missions from the game.
