Something people don't know about you!

Here's something people don't know about me...

I have a phobia for loud bangs... I have this phobia as long as I can remember. It may sound ridiculous and maybe it is but can be very frustrating and annoying sometimes -_-
Especially with newyears coming up in a couple of weeks! Everytime I hear a loud bang (when it's pretty close) I'm simply scared out of my mind! I can't even have a normal conversation after I hear a bang. For example, during this summer me and a friend were having a drink outside in a sidewalk cafe, just chatting a bit, when suddenly some firework exploded about 50 meters from where we were sitting. After that, about 75% of the things he said to me just went right past me. I was (as usual) continuously nervous, afraid that another loud bang might occur anytime. This lasted at least 5 minutes before I calmed down completely
I even used to be afraid of balloons too, scared that they might pop with a bang, but at least I'm pretty much over that now... but those firework bangs and explosions are just WAYYY to loud...
This also makes me miss New Year's Eve every single year. What for most people is one of the most awesome nights of the year, for me it's frustration and sitting bored at home all by myself
Luckily this is about the only time of year that it seriously bothers me, but still, it sucks.

To you, and most other people, they're just noises, but to me they're more like "WHOA MY GOD WTF WAS THAT  IM SCARED s***LESS"
I wish I knew why they scare me, maybe I could find a solution for my problem then -_-
Seriously, there have been situations when I was on my bicycle riding to a friends house, then in the near distance I heard fireworks, I turned back and took another route just to avoid those bangs... Heck, it even creates dangerous situations when I'm on my bicycle, I hear a loud bang, then instantly forget everything that I'm doing just to put my fingers in my ears >_< not only is it embarrassing, it's also dangerous because at that time I don't pay attention to other traffic anymore!

And yes, thunderstorms do get me a little nervous, especially when the lightning gets closer (and thus the rumbles get louder). But at least the lightnings are an indication that a loud thunder is coming so I'm a bit less startled by them.

That's got to piss you off..just because of a bee you're partially deaf..
That's one way of looking at it. While generally I'm a cynic, I choose to view that incident like this: That bee sting could have literally killed me... but it didn't. Being partially deaf in one ear is a small price to pay to continue living.

I've never heard of one like that. What is the name of that phobia? Explodophobia? Bigbangphobia? Blastatonophobia? What really sucks about phobias is that some people can't seem to understand them. They give you weird looks and may even think that you're faking it, for whatever reason.

By the way, I've got this box of fireworks that I've been trying to get rid of; won't you give me a hand?

*strikes match*

BANG!

Doesn't affect you on a forum, huh?

I don't know if it has a name. Not that I know of anyway. But I know I'm not the only one, I found some Dutch forum, also with people with the same problem, so I guess it's not that unique.

And yeah, most people don't understand phobias (not just mine, but other phobias as well). Heck, I don't even understand my phobia myself! :eh:

Well that's sort of the point. A phobia is an irrational fear of something. If you are able to realize that you shouldn't be afraid of that which scares you, this is the main way in which you know you have a phobia. It's a deeply psychological thing, and I doubt anyone truly comprehends what causes them or why they develop. It may have something to do with a traumatic experience when you were younger, even if you don't remember it or have chosen to block it from your mind.

1) I have a lot of Chick Rock on my Zune.
2) I used to listen to crappy music when I was younger.
3) I've pretty much done everything I've ever wanted to in life. All of my goals have been complete.
4) I never liked my name, so I always go by Stik Ross. Stik coming from my first initial, as well as the fact that I'm 98 pounds, six foot tall, and I look like a friggen stick. The C was dropped because it looks cool. Ross comes from my middle name. But Alice Lawless was from a conversation with my girlfriend when we first met. Alice Cooper + Blackie Lawless = Alice Lawless. We were saying how you could have any first name with the last name of Lawless and it would be a badass name. Alice stuck because Alice Lawless is the name I'd go by if I knew how to play my guitar better.
5) I'm starting to get sick of Code Red :-/

:o I hope you didn't get injured or lose anything too precious.

1) I have huge crushes on Taylor Swift, Olivia Wilde, Amanda Seyfried, and Erika Toda. Almost nobody knows this in real life but I think some of you guys do after seeing my posts in some other threads haha.
2) I sometimes dream of being a WWE wrestler.
3) I want to be invited to the Academy Awards one day.
