Help! I'm changing IPSs, so I'll have to...; ...change my e-mail address

I'm changing my broadband, as I am SICK of Wanadoo's endless disconnections, refusal to connect, massively varying speeds, etc. Do NOT sign up with them, they are rubbish.

Anyway, I've been with them, and before them Freeserve (the same company, actually) for eight or nine years, and have always had the same e-mail address, but now I will have to change it. I can just e-mail everyone in my e-address book to tell them, but of course your e-mail is tied to your user name in a forum, so I'll have to e-mail every forum and WWW site I'm registered with to tell them of the change. Is there anyway to cut down on this loooong job, a standard I've-Changed-My-e-mail-Address protocol or something?

Unfortunately I don't think such a protocol exists. Do you have all those sites' email addresses listed in your contacts? Because if so that would shorten the process by a great deal.

I'd imagine most forums and websites would expect you to manually change your email address in their settings page. Like, if you emailed Raqueda (sic) and told him that you changed your email address he'd probably refer you to your user info page so you can change it yourself.

You should check with your old and new ISPs though and see if there is some sort of forwarding that they can offer you.

Wanadoo no longer exist so it's unlikely anyone else will sign up with them. :P

In seriousness, though, I'm also a wanadoo (and now Orange) customer and have no complaints. In the three years I've been with them there's only been one time that I can remember that I couldn't get a connection and that problem disappeared after about a half hour. And I've never been disconnected and never noticed any problems with connection speed. All of this makes me wonder if the problem might be something other than your service provider?

Not trying to put you off changing ISP's but I've really not had any problems with Wanadoo/Orange at all.

I know, but it's easier to type "Wanadoo" than "The ISP that was formerly owned by (or at least known as) Wanadoo, and is now owned by Orange". ;)

Hardly - lots of people I know on-line have problems with Wanadoo. There was even a forum set up to discuss these faults (or a pre-existing forum that was swamped in complaints, I dunno - I'll try to find the URL). Before I realised these problems were commonplace, I tried everything, including new filters both from Wanadoo (had to argue for aggggges to get them to send them) and from a third party manufacturer), BT checking the line repeatedly, new extension leads and everything.

Maybe the problems are area based, I don't know. I do know that a lot of former Freeserve/Wanadoo people have changed due to problems, and I've only put it off for so long as I was hoping it would clear up so that I wouldn't have to change my e-mail address.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for your answers (and no, Dave, I won't be giving you my new email address, I'm sick of the endless spam I recieve from D. Goss Viagra and Loans Enterprises Ltd), looks like I'll have to e-mail each forum and site seperately. Incidentally, who do I e-mail about changing my e-address for this forum?

Click "My Controls" at the top of the page, then click "Change Email Address" on the side menu.

They're now called Orange. So "Orange" would be all you need to say. :P

Easy tiger! I was just saying that our experiences differed greatly... that's why I thought it might be something other than the service provider. But it does sound like these issues are area based... and if I was getting that kind of service I'd be changing service provider pretty quickly. Have you narrowed down any alternatives yet? A guy I work beside changed ISP just recently (he was with Talk Talk) and thought he was getting a good deal at cheap price with high connection speeds... sounded pretty good. The only problem is that now he has the same problems you've described; he's unable to get a connection a lot of the time and when he does it will often disconnect at the worst possible time. Not much good for him since most of his gaming is done online. I'll find out which company it is he joined so you can avoid them.
