December should be a nice month, with all the holiday stuff. But the first half of December is terrible. I have a 20 page paper due Mon and I'm only up to like page 7. That wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have another paper of equal length due on Wednesday! And let's not talk about that 3rd paper due on the 21st that I haven't even thought about. I think these circumstances are unhappy, even if I, like every other student, brought them on myself by procrastinating at every opportunity. Therefore, I move that the first portion of the month of December be removed from the calender. |

So as a result of avoiding your responsibilities, you want to further avoid more responsibilities? Unfortunately I can relate to this. |

We should be allowed to hibernate come December 1st. Then we'd get a good solid three straight weeks of sleep before having to deal with the stressful holidays. First Christmas comes at you, then you have New Years, and then before you know it the new semester begins. It's hard on the body, especially when you've got a stressful first few weeks of December. |

Why just the 1st through 21st of December?? I propose to remove ALL of winter entirely. Yes, Christmas/New Year's/Kwanzaa/Whatever included. It's a small price to pay for a blissful existence without cold weather & snow. Southern Hemisphere need not apply. Like always.

I'd rather have cold weather and snow than heat and humidity. And as far as spring goes, everything is all happy and full of life -- it's so miserable! I say, let the cold hand of death rule the full year! ... I should probably get back to work. *imbibes more caffeine* |

How about we remove the 21st from December and move it to June. I'm never doing anything of interest in June so I can tolerate doing work for one day. Plus it will move your birthday away from Christmas so people won't try to cheat you by giving you Christmas/Birthday gifts. The worst part about working hard on a paper is that for all I know the professor won't even read it (maybe that's a good thing in this case  ). Like 6 more pages to go! Where's the caffeine!?

I've been there and I feel for you, buddy. I hate writing essays. I hate it sooooo bad. Luckily I have only one more to go (the big one!) and it's not due until the end of April. Unfortunately, my birthday is in April so it probably won't be a constructive month. 6 pages... easy! You're almost there.

Writing essays isn't so bad. I really procrastinated on work this semester though, probably because it's my first semester in grad school and I haven't come to terms with the fact that I'm in classes with PhD students (people that, if I had gone to this university, could have actually taught classes that I was taking a year ago). Now I'm expected to produce work like that found in professionally published journals. You'd think with all that fear I would have worked harder so I didn't come off as an incompetent dumbass. The professor for this class went to Harvard and studied with Barbra Lewalski, who is one of the most respected scholars on Milton. How can I complete with that?

Luckily since moving to Florida I haven't had to write any substantially lengthy essays. In 9th grade I had to write a ten page one about IBMs but since then (moved in tenth) I haven't wrote more than like two pages at the most. I have a four page one for government class though due in two weeks. One page can be a political cartoon, though. And my class has a bunch of |

I feel your pain, Dagoss. This year I had to write a 11,000 word comparitive essay/analysis on Snow Falling On Cedars and To Kill A Mockingbird. I about 4.5 months to complete it, but as a result of my "disabled" study regime I left the bulk of it to the very last minute. Probably the most period of time I've ever experienced.

To Kill a Mocking Bird is so lame. It should be removed from the canon -- high school students would be better served reading Toni Morrison's work instead. The writing isn't bad. I wish I could write papers about what I think. But no. I have to do "research" and find out what other people think. Does anyone not in an English department even know who Stanley Fish is? The academia makes no sense! Literary study isn't like a science, you can't approach it empirically. English departments need to stop kidding themselves. Excuse the anger, I didn't really go to bed last night. At least now I can relax until the next research paper is due on... Wednesday!? ****! |
