So I have a confession -- I probably listen to remixes and rips of game music more than I listen to actual music. I have probably about 50 burned CDs with game music and somewhere between 4 and 7 GB worth of files on my computer. That's kind of pathetic, I think. Whenever someone in real life asks "what kind of music do you like", I definitely don't answer Nobuo Uematsu! Rachmaninoff and Beethoven are great -- but they're no Uematsu! Maybe it's because the music carries the connotation of the games, maybe the quality of the composition is better to make up for the low quality samples, who knows. If I ever made a game, almost all the music would be remixes of songs from pre-PS2 era games. And it would be the greatest game ever made. |

I also listen to a lot of game music. I like the overblown orchestral scores in games such as Shadow of the Colossus and Fable. |

I've been listening to the "Final Fantasy X: Piano Collections" lately. Fantastic stuff. I've also been enjoying the Kingdom Hearts II OST. What other soundtracks would you guys recommend? (Or provide links to )

If you like the FFX Piano Collection, there are the same albums for FF7 and FF8. And then there's Liberi Fatali, which are orchestrations of FF8 music. And without a doubt, you want to find both of the albums by the group The Black Mages. All of which should be too hard to find off torrents. The website Blue Laguna has a huge collection of albums for a many series, mostly RPGs. And I assume you already know about OC Remix I tend to like arrangements that are true to the original title. Nothing worse than hearing the overworld to Final Fantasy VII as a rave. |

Not unless there's a secret way that I don't know about. They probably do it that way to decrease bandwidth usage while increasing the amount of ads you'll be exposed to. In their defense, a site like that has to be heavy on bandwidth. |

Some of the N64 soundtracks were incredible: Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Turok 2, Shadow Man, Buck Bumble, and Tetrisphere.

I can't decide! Here's some pure genius though. Withthequickness is amazing. OC Remix has a lot of great stuff (Though Voices of the Lifestream was largely disappointing). VGmix used to be great, but they were hacked or something and have been down for over a year. Some of the people at VGmix (especially the administrator) are jackasses too. I guess being a musician requires one to be a jackass though. My favorite OST's would probably be: -Final Fantasy 7 (and pretty much all other games in the series) -Mega Man 2, 3, and 5. -Mega Man X2 and X3 -Dragon Quest 4 and 8 -Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance -Dracula X (PCEngine) -Baldur's Gate II -Halo Most games have some music that is pretty good. If you can hum it in the shower, it's probably good. |

Hey David, I downloaded the Final Fantasy 7 Piano Collection (songs individually) but now I can't play them -- apparently their temporary whiles. Any way to make them permanent? |

Good news, VGMix has returned after like 2 years of down time while the site was rewritten. Unfortunately, it isn't really in order yet, but you can still download music and it looks like new music is being contributed. Unfortunately in the time that they were down, the quality of remixes posted on OCRemix have risen exponentially. |
