I spent a large portion of my life cutting things short to play GoldenEye. It's ALWAYS worth it. =)

Spent some time with an old friend tonight. I know these aren't anywhere close to amazing times or anything, but I just wanted to see if I could even get close to my old Mario Kart 64 Times Trials times.

First run was pretty rusty...

Run two it was coming back to me a bit...

Finally on the 12th-ish run I broke back into my top 5!

Also as the years have gone on, I've grown an unexpected appreciation for the SuperPad 64. I refuse to subject any of my remaining original controllers to the abuse that Mario Kart 64 dishes out. The SuperPad 64 is definitely not the most comfortable controller, but the stick is precise and much more durable than the first party controller. I snatch them up when I see them fairly cheap.

Played some Perfect Dark combat simulator before bed tonight. I am quite rusty.

Some of my old settings were saved from the tournaments we used to have back in school. I sure miss all the multiplayer fun. I need to invite a bunch of people over for N64 only game night.

Been playing Rogue Squadron. I'm stuck on the Prisons of Kessel mission. It's basically an escort mission. But I keep losing the ship on the last prison. Grr. Going to take a break and try again tomorrow.

Factor 5 did some pretty amazing stuff with this game. Shadows, lighting effects, hi-res mode. But not without sacrifice. The fog is thick with this one. It's forgivable though for all it achieves is pretty much every other area. It's one of the few "eye candy" games of the era that has aged fairly well.

Now if I can just get BETTER at it!

Well, I made it past that mission finally! I absolutely hate it when I'm fighting against a single TIE. In formation they aren't very evasive, but I can never seem to line up the little SOB's when they're flying solo. It's like trying to swat a fly with a yo-yo.

I'm on the final chapter now, so maybe over the Christmas break I can have this one beat!

Played some Top Gear Rally today. Still a fantastic game. Working on unlocking all the secret stuff since I lost my save file from back in the day.

I am so not good at this game. I did beat a couple more missions today. Using a new controller made a huge difference for me. I was using the controller I'd put the kitch-bent gears into, and I was doing fine. But then I plugged in one of my GOOD controllers, and man, it's like my aim instantly got better.

But then my enthusiasm was quickly squelched when I got to the Blockade on Chandrila mission. I can't save those :cussfit: shuttles. I'll take a break and come back. Then beat a couple more. That system seems to be working so far.

I started a new file in Blast Corps last night. This is seriously one of the best games on the system in my opinion. And I just happened to stumble upon it back in the day. I literally just bought it because of the box art. Haha.

The saddest thing about playing the game today for me, is that I've already solved all the puzzles. That was seriously the best part of this game. Going back and getting 100% on all the levels involved some serious head scratching at times.

For instance
Spoiler: click to toggle

It was AMAZING solving that puzzle for the first time!

This game is right up there with the Zelda games that I wish someone would come around and brain wash me so I could experience it all over again like I'd never played it before.

Not every level is a puzzler, some are a lot more straight forward. But if you like action mixed with some puzzle solving and love getting 100% on everything. You gotta play this game. Man... Rare really was on fire back then.

It's always a good time to start a new file on Super Mario 64.

Oh man tonight felt good. Been so busy lately, the N64 or even just gaming in general hasn't been happening.

Got about an hour's worth of Top Gear Rally in. I still just love the way this game plays. The cars are just fun to drive and the courses are burned into my mind so sometimes I really feel like I'm flying around the tracks. The music is pretty understated but I really enjoy it.

Its just one of those games that can take me right back to the good ole days.

At 5 years old, Kart Jr. made it though the Secret Slide all by himself. When I was six I couldn't even clear the first jump in Super Mario Bros. World 1-1!

*sniffle* Proud Dad moment.

Holy cow, I really want to play N64 after reading this. Stupid 4 hour car ride home. Man, how I wish I could go back and experience them all for the first time again! Thanks for sharing!

Just put Kart Jr. to bed. We played about an hour of GoldenEye 1v1 with each other, and the little sprout is halfway good. I started off just keeping it close. But then decided to set my Health to "hero" and go after him.

I'm playing one handed here, but still impressed he got some shots off so quickly for a 5 year old! https://www.instagram.com/p/BOQvK6ABsF3/

Ahh the sign of good times.
