All the mega-important site announcements and updates will be posted here.

The search function for the site is now operational. "Search" sits under the Nintendo 64 Forever banner on each page or if you're really stuck just click this link.

Note also that you can now also report any posts which you think are offensive or break any rules by clicking the report box underneath the post.

With all of the people selling their Nintendo 64's lately, I figure I'll make great use of this emoticon:

More stuff!

We all now have a blog option. If you have something to say which doesn't quite fit in any topics, why not create your own blog? It's easy;

Click on "Preferences" at the top right of the page.

Select "Update profile"

Select "My blog" where you call name your blog and change the options.

After you've named your blog you can add blog posts by clicking on your username and on your blog. We'll start a new topic in the Social Board where people can post when they've made a new blog post. Have fun. :)

ZetaBoards offers many features which InvisionFree lacked, so poke around folks, you may just stumble upon a nifty new feature that will enhance your forum experience. There's now a search function, for example, so you can quickly and easily find a topic of particular interest. You've probably noticed that there's an icon next to a member's post which will let you know if they're online, so you won't need to go back to the main page. It's now possible to embed YouTube videos into a post, so you don't need to post simple links anymore. However, please be courteous to those with a slow Internet connection and refrain from posting an excessive amount of videos in a single post.

I'm quite sure there's even more to discover, so put on your headlamp and go exploring!

Since I've been swamped with literally no requests for new smilies, I thought I'd give us some. The first is a dancing smiling:

which you can use by typing:

We also have thumbs up and thumbs down smilies:

And a confused smilie:

More work has been done on the archives today. I decided that we would only archive closed topics, the rest have been reopened and are in the process of being merged. We have quite a few topics that cover the same subjects so I'm merging these together. Hopefully, that will make old topics easier to find. Ultimately what I'd like to see is one discussion topic per game, plus seperate topics for other N64 related chat. In the mean time, revel in old topic bumpage. Welcome back to 2006!

-----

August 25, 2008 by alxbly
The latest exciting update is that I'm planning on retitling some topics to make them easier to find. Obscure topic titles can be funny but they also make finding specific topics a bit hit or miss. The Archives section is a nightmare just now, it's hard to find anything unless you know specifically what a topic was called. Anyway, post your usual encouragement and grumblings about this here and I'll do my best to take any suggestions on board.

First up for the topic renaming will be the N64 Archives. The topics will all be moved to the N64 board for a short while and moved back when the renaming process is complete. If you experience any difficulties accessing the N64 board please post here or PM one of the admin staff.

Thanks.

First up, regular members will notice a slight change in Nintendo 64 Forever's board layout. A few of the less used boards have been merged together to hopefully make Nintendo 64 Forever look a little bit neater and be slightly easier to navigate.

So the Forum Guidelines have been merged into the Welcome section, which is now titled Welcome, Guidelines and Announcements. As this is the first part of the board new members are likely to visit, it seems reasonable that our guidelines should be there.

Site Help and Site Suggestions were rarely used so I've merged the two sections together. The resulting (and innovatively titled) Site Help and Suggestions section is also now in the Welcome area.

Feel free to comment on any of the changes or announcements in this topic. :)

How about getting a little more creative with your board titles? They sound so boring. Something like this would be better:

"Welcome 64, Guidelines 64, and Announcments 64 (PlayStation Sucks)"

There, that's 64 times better.

Wait a minute, are you planning on renaming every topic in the Archives section? Are you moving them to the N64 board so you can keep track of the ones you've renamed?

...You want someone to pitch in on this? I suggest Floorcat...

... Isn't it a little pointless to manually archive topics, considering that invision automatically does it (see the link at the bottom of every page).

Good question but the two archives serve different purposes. As far as I recall, Invisionfree's own archives are only kept for a short while as an emergency backup (for example, if the board should be hacked and all topic were deleted), but after a while that info is lost. Our own archives let us keep topics that are years old.

Obviously if the invisionfree archives were kept long term there wouldn't be a need for read-only boards, such as our own archives. We'll continue to archive our own topics until a better or easier solution is found.

As far as I can tell, Invision's archives are kept long term. I was even able to find my first post on this site, which was like two years ago. Personally, I think there is a bigger chance of Invision ending their free service than those archived topics disappearing.

I'm just trying to save you work since, conceivably, no one would ever want to read any topic anyone on this site has ever created anyway, with the obvious exception of all of my topics.

Thanks for your input. When you say you found your first post, do you mean your introduction? The reason you're able to find it is because it still exists on N64 Forever:

http://z9.invisionfree.com/Nintendo_64_For...p?showtopic=210

If that topic were deleted from N64 Forever then I suspect it wouldn't be in Invisionfree's archives for very long. Our own archives are handy if we want to bring back any old topics, not that it happens very often.
