Well, do you consider yourself to be a competitive gamer? With the rise of Melee and Halo 2 tournaments, and, imminently, Brawl and Halo 3 tournaments, there seems to be a "competitive gaming" edge nowadays? So, what are you? I think I'm somewhere in between. I play online some, I've gone to a tournament, but not really to win. I'm not quite Online 24/7, heck, all I have is a Wii, and I find Brawl not to be very fun without being able to gloat in person. Sure, the taunts, but that's nothing. |

I'm competative in some ways. I don't play online all that much these days but I am quite proud of my Xbox 360 gamerscore; me and a friend were in competition to see who would have the highest score for quite some time. The whle gamerscore thing is quite competative... there's websites dedicated just to gamerscores! Same applies to PS3 trophies, I find myself playing more PS3 now so that some of our other members here (looking at you, floorcat :P) don't leap ahead of me in trophies. I do like an occasional deathmatch online though and when I play, I do want to win. I'm not a great player of any particular game though because I don't play any one game enough to become really good at it. I tend to switch between games quite regularly. If I was gonna get serious it wouldn't be with Halo, it would probably be with Call of Duty 4. Is casual gamer in there as a non-competative answer? It doesn't seem to fit. I know a few casual gamers who are very competative but they just don't play all that often. Therefore, I'd say a casual gamer isn't automatically non-competative.

Endure and survive...

i would currently classify myself as a casual gamer. i was very competitive with friends and probably would have entered tournaments if any were close to where i lived back in highschool. fps, racing games, fighting games, the works. i had about 7 or 8 friends with different game tastes and everybody wanted to be the best at what they like. now-a-days i occasionaly race my bro-in-law, or play ncaa football against a co-worker. that is really about it though. i am just in it for fun now. |

MUAHAHAHAHA I don't compete. I WIN. j/k... I guess I'm only competitive when it comes to Guitar Hero's "Face-off" modes... against long-time friends who've also happened to get sucked into the game. But then we play co-op/band, and there's no competition at all. I imagine LittleBigPlanet might evolve into a more competitive realm eventually... but right now it's all happy shiny co-op floweriness. Like alxbly says, PS3 trophies do have a bit of inherent competition-type nature... but I don't feel it at all SINCE NO ONE ON MY FRIEND LIST IS ANYWHERE NEAR ME IN TROPHIES!!! That's right. The glove has been thrown.

I'll need to find some other PS3 games if I'm gonna get anywhere near your score cos my to play ratio is still well in favour of the Best get back to playing Dead Space again so you don't really race ahead... Tell that to your Gamerscore. ![]()

Not in the slightest. I was competitive sometimes back in the day, if I were playing somebody else with a competitive attitude. These days though, I don't care about who wins or who scored the most or any of that, my goal with games is simply I just want to have fun. I don't need to win in order to do that either. Also, what's up with the "I'm a casual gamer" answer? Whether you're casual or hardcore doesn't affect your competitive spirit. You might be surprised at how competitive some people can get when they play Wii Sports. |

I wouldn't say im competitive but i have entered some 1 gh 3 and halo 3 comps. I won the halo one but lost the guitar hero one. I get a bit competive when it comes to leader boards or highest rank. Im trying to impove my 14th and 15th rank on xbox live leader boards for blitzkrieg bop and sabotage on vocals on rock band. |

^Heh... well, if it's any consolation, if there were anything of the sort for the Wii, you'd probably be the forum leader for it. I wonder when/if the Wii will ever get into the whole online bragging rights/accomplishment arena... I mean, just think, they could have, not achievements, not trophies, but Wii CUPS. HOOOOoooooooooooo.

Why don't we create our own arbitrary scoring system for Wii? Then we can find out who's the top waggler here. |

Well, with all the casual games in mind, maybe you can simply do it by totalling the hours spent playing games, etc. on the Wii. Too bad there's no quick/easy way to tell. They should come out with a system update that gives you all the stats that the Wii records, which it obviously does since there's such detailed breakdowns from the data Nintendo receives from you accepting that DS demo download feature. |

Naw, but I want to be rewarded for my accomplishments! Any fool could just leave the system on to rack up time spent "playing" a game, there's no incentive to actually play, much less play well. Which is why we need to make a ranking system. We can make it up as we go, just list the number of points you think you should receive for your accomplishments. Here are some for me: Mario Kart Wii Beat all cups: 100 points. Beat the staff ghosts: 1,000 points. Achieved three stars: 10,000 points. Reached over 25,000 "item hits received": 100,000 points. Favourite Character listed as Birdo: 1,000,000 points You get the idea. |

Sorry man, I just have far more games for the 360 so there's always something to suit my mood. Plus, of the games I own for the PS3 there's still about 50% that don't even have f***ing tropies (Gran Turismo, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank... and soon, MGS4). That pisses me off, why haven't they fixed this yet? F***ing Sony need to get their f***ing s*** in order. Apart from that...

You mean an xbox 360 shaped steaming crock? Not sure how that figures in this but, yes, it's good that Sony are implementing trophies for all new games. Hopefully they'll get around to sorting out old games as well sometime soon. |
