Graphics - 8/10

Pretty good for the time, but because of the switch from pre-rendered backgrounds in the RE games to the 3D environments in this game, things are quite as detailed. But Capcom always squeezes the best out of what they have to work with so it's still top notch PlayStation graphics.

Sound - 8/10

Also always superior in the sound category, Dino Crisis does not fall short in terms of dramatic use of great music, sound effects and even the voice acting. Ok, so some of the voice acting is a little stilted but it's still much better than a lot of other PS1 action and survival horror games of the time. Dramatic score, great dinosaur effects and decent voice acting that doesn't deter from your enjoyment. What more could you ask?

Control - 7/10

Ok, if you ever had any trouble with the controls of any of the PS1 Resident Evil games then you'll have them here as well. Controls are slow and somewhat clunky, but I tend to get used to them after a little gameplay. Just stick with it or use codes if you are dying a little too often from the control scheme.

Gameplay - 8/10

Once again, the RE reference comes back into play. If you've played those games then you have a really clear picture of how this one plays only you substitute dinosaurs in place of zombies. The dinos do move a little faster AND they can follow you through closed doors so you can't just escape a room and be safe again. With the low supply of ammo in the game this creates a new strategy but I still found myself taking out as many dinos as I could before moving on.

Capcom also worked in a 'choose your destiny' style of storyline with the occasional option of following a different path for certain objectives. For the most part you would end up in the same place either way you go, but some decisions lead you towards one of the three endings.

Overall - 8/10

What I like best about this game is the sense of ambience it creates. A dark, seemingly deserted scientific facility where some sort of catastrophe has occurred and you have to find out what has happened with possible dangerous consequences. Although the RE games do the same thing, Dino Crisis still accomplishes a different feel than those games. While the circumstances surrounding the story are just as convoluted as the RE games, I can still enjoy the plot as well as the gameplay. If you've played Resident Evil and can find this game you certainly won't be disappointed.
