Who actually liked the N64 controller? Everyone seems to hate it...

I liked it, but the D-Pad seemed very useless.

I love it. It's probably my third favourite controller after the Dual Shock 2 and Sega MegaDrive six-button pad. I love the singular trigger down the middle, it made GoldenEye that much more fun back in the day.

However, I will agree that the D-Pad was reasonably useless. But if you've ever tried to play Mortal Kombat Trilogy with the analogue stick, you'd be very thankful for its existence on the controller.
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But hit a man with a brick, and you can have all his fish. And his wife.

Yeah it's a pretty weird controller. It's the most comfortable controller I've ever used, three-pronged monstrosity that it is, though recently I've taking a liking to the Wiimote/Nunchuk combo.

I have this feeling that Nintendo initially wanted to replace the D-Pad with the analogue stick, but somebody (possibly third-parties?) talked them out of it. At the very least, the D-Pad was an afterthought; Nintendo didn't consider that it could be used in addition to the analogue stick so they gave it its own separate handle, to be used with games that wouldn't benefit from the stick.

Its an excellent controller, the only thing that lets it down is the actual control stick wearing out.
The only better thing I've used is the Gamecube controller which is perfection in a bag.
And the D-Pad is excellent, I use it for so many games, might as well not wear out the control stick.

I like it. The control stick feels more precise than than any other controler I've used. If only they were more durable... I wish modern controlers still had sticks like it.
The numchuck stick is horrible. You really notice when you're trying to walk slowly.

I love the N64 controller, but after playing some Virtual Console games on the Wii with the Gamecube controller, I have to say I prefer it.

i loved the n64 controller.

i find the gc controller to be most comfortable, and the playstation controller has the best button placement.
the n64 controller is a colse 3rd behind them.

I always liked it, save for the fact I can't press all the buttons at once, but I digress.
Even bastards need to let off some steam.

I loved the n64 controller. For me is the 2nd best controller ever only behind the Gamecube controller.

I loved using it for games that you could use the d-pad with, on hand on the left and one on the right none in the middle, it was so comfortable, but I hold the joystick very strangely compared to everyone else, kind of like a classic joystick combined with a pencil so that might be why it was so uncomfortable, not that bad, but I can't use just my thumb. Overall 8/10

I liked the N64 controller the most, followed by the SNES controller, the Wii remote, and then the Famicom controller.

I've had pains and injuries using the PS controller, Megadrive controller and the GC controller. The Dreamcast controller was uncomfortable but serviceable. Analog triggers suck though.

The controller is pretty good. The only flaws are the not-so-good d-pad & the control stick can be worn out quite easily. I do like the button layout however. It would be perfect for Capcom's 2D fighting games of the time like X-Men vs. Street Fighter & Street Fighter Alpha 3 for example.

I like the N64 controller - even though its shape is weird, it's still quite easy to hold compared to some other controllers (especially the nightmare that is the DualShock). The buttons and trigger were good, big enough and the right shape (flat and not rounded like Xbox buttons). The only major fault was the analog stick (I never actually used the D-pad so I can't comment on that).

Actually, now that I think about it, the N64 controller ranks in my top 3 of favourite controllers... right after the GameCube controller (absolute best, except the shoulder buttons) and the Xbox 360 controller (a close second, has much better shoulder buttons and triggers but a worse D-pad and rounded face buttons).

The positioning of the L and Dpad buttons eemed odd, but holding the middle prong and right prong felt all right.

I will admit while I was a Nintendopion the N64 was the greastest thing I had in my hand. The next thing to the Gamecube controller was a N64 controller. The only thing better was the Virtaul boy controller.

Unlike the Virtaul Boy, the N64 had one problem.
THERE WAS NOTHING TO PLAY.

In terms of fighters, the N64 controller was the worst controller to own asides a joystick. The NES and Master System was even far better equiped to play your
favorite fighter game.

This is why people want a PSX controller. It had the best original SNES layout. Had the 3D sticks, and rumble. The only negative was the PSX controllers hurts your hands thanks to the odd curves.

Yes you could use it as a fighter stick, but every other game used the C-buttons as a extra. You barely touched them.

Nintendo being for babies and brainwashed military personel ( see giest on Gamecube ), was a joke as a standard controller.

However for shooters like Golden Eye, the shape was that of a gun. You could feel every single bullet withdraw from a rumble pack. The N64 could be used for target practice, in a real situation.
