I don't know this off-hand, I'd have to go and check. One thing I can point out though is that some games weren't coloured in other regions, so the list is North America-focused. Also, some other games which have a gray variant include 007, Hydro Thunder, and Turok: Rage Wars (which isn't on your list. It's black.).

I still have the pics of the coloured cartridges in my Photobucket, but that was back before I had a complete collection so it is missing some.

Thanks Mop_it_up, I've added in Turok Rage Wars and updated those carts which were also available in grey. On another forum there was some initial debate about Shadowgate 64, which someone suggested may also have been available as a black cart but I've not found any evidence of this.

The list is mainly American foused, since European and UK PAL carts were rarely any color other than grey or black, although I can't be sure about Australian/New Zealand carts. A lot of the US colored carts were changes for their release on the other side of the atlantic. :( 007 TWINE, Aidyn Chronicles, Donkey Kong, OoT, Rainbow Six, Rayman, Road Rash, Rocket, Turok 3 and Turok Rage Wars were all grey carts when released in the UK. Japanese games... well, I'll look at them eventually (maybe a certain kitty-related forum member could help me?) but I don't know of any colored Japanese carts from memory.

Wished that I had access to a list like this over a year ago. It would have saved me a trip. I drove to a Gamestop because they had a sale, 2 N64 used games for $5.00. I purchased a Scooby-Doo, and only after I got home did I know that it was a Football game. It was a grey cart. Someone had placed and glued the Scooby-Doo cart sticker on the cart. They did find a repacement, the only other used Scooby-Doo that they had.

Nice list. I will use this as a reference for future purchases.

Thanks man. I've seen other "transplanted" N64 labels... all I can say is some people have too much spare time if they think that's funny. ^_^

Actually, Scooby-Doo is one of the games which has both black and gray cartridges, so what likely happened is that somebody swapped the circuit board inside with that football game of which you speak. I've encountered this a couple of times before.

Are you sure they put a new label on it or did they swap out the circuitry? It's pretty difficult to fake a professionally printed and machine-placed label.

One cart i seen at a store had label that had been torn off and re-glued. The label itself was ful of creases and it was obvious that it had been removed. I dunno if the game the same as the label or not and dince it looked tampered with I decided not to bite.

Knowing my luck it would have been a review copy of 40 Winks under that label... >_<

And that's why you should buy up any all suspicious cartridges that you see, because you never know what it might be.

How much did it cost anyway? What did you have to lose?

It would have cost only a few £££'s, but I'm not gonna buy every cartridge I see, especially not the ones in the worst condition. If I had bought every bad condition Fifa 64 cart I'd ever seen then I suspect I'd have a collection far bigger than yours. And just as unplayed. :P

No no, I said buy the ones which look suspicious, not ones in bad condition. Because you never know what you might find. Did you know that the NES prototype of SimCity is housed in a Zelda II cartridge? Who knows what other prototypes might have been stuffed into any old cartridge...

If it had looked suspicious enough I may have took a risk but this one just looked like someone had got bored and decided to half peel off the label. :-/
