Hi, I was wondering if I got a Japanese or American controller would it work with a PAL N64 console? Thanks.
Hi,

Yes, controllers will work regardless of their native country. I used both US and Japanese N64 controllers with my PAL consoles and they work fine. :) The same applies to any N64 accessory, so you could use US or Japanese expansion paks, rumble paks or controller paks (memory cards).

The only thing to be wary of if you decide to import a controller pak is that different languages won't be able to be saved to the same memory pak; for example, if you try to save a Japanese game onto a pak which already has UK saves then the pak state the it's needs to be reformatted. And if you choose to reformat it will delete the UK saves.

I tried doing a search on the forums to make sure this controller wasn't mentioned. Anyways, has anyone tried the myiico brand controller? Seen them on this site:

Myiico is a rebranding of this controller:

http://s9.zetaboards.com/Nintendo_64_Forever/single/?p=8003814&t=7155127

There's lots of variations of this controller, but as far as I can tell, they're all the same and they're not very good.

I've tried the 2-Tech and Yobo versions; both are identical except for color, branding and packaging. And both are crap controllers. >_<

Sorry man, I wish these were good because there's an endless supply of them on eBay. They're okay-ish, I guess, but the control stick looks like it'll wear out quickly and it's no good for first person shooters because it's unbalanced. You'd be better off trying to track down a good condition official controller.

And grease up that analogue stick to make it last.

The company no longer exists but here's a scan of an advert they placed in a N64 magazine:

And it looks like I got the name of your controllers finish wrong, it's actually "Chrome Leopard". >_<
Woah, I didn't think it was over a year ago that we were discussing those resprayed controllers... time flies, I guess. Anyway, I managed to get two of them in good condition and with their original boxes. Here they are:

The quality of the respray is really good. I'll post more photos later. :)

Wow! I like that. I never knew they had stuff like this. It would be hard for me to use them playing games.

I don't think I'm gonna use them much, just in case I drop them or something. They're probably gonna be boxed up and stored safe somewhere until I get an urge to use them. :)

Here's more photos of the silver-finished one, which the company called Chrome Leopard.

And here's the other. It's finish was called "Desert Storm":

As you can see in the last photo, the repray job on the Desert Storm controller is quite detailed; there's silver, yellow and dark brown (it looks black but it actually seems to be very dark brown). The yellow is glossy so it's shinier than a standard yellow N64 controller.

An interesting note on the Superpad Controller. It's stick is very well made. Funny that the pad is not.

New N64 official controllers seem to be going up in price on eBay these days. New ones used to be relatively easy to find at a modest price but now... >_<

Here's some examples:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260495720162&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

And I also noticed this joker:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ORIGINAL-OFFICIAL-JOYPAD-NINTENDO-64-N64-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ370278231363QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_JN?hash=item56364d6d43

Lol, he's looking for a very desperate buyer. ^_^

But anyway, £35+ for a controller just makes me glad I've been buying in bulk. :D

I recently listed how many controllers I had and how good the analogue sticks were. Just looking at those which have official control sticks (i.e. not the Hori Pad Mini's or the Arcade Shark) I reckon I've got eight in perfect "as new" condition (I rated them as 5/5), another four with extremly minor wear and another two with slightly more wear. That's probably enough for a lifetime, so I guess I can stop buying N64 controllers now. But that's boring... :-/

I've never been a fan of the resprays, I've always preferred single-coloured controllers.

If you keep up with lubricating the analogue sticks then I'd think you wouldn't need more than four to last you a lifetime. I guess it is good to have a replacement or two should something happen, but anything more than that is excessive.

Ebay is the best place to find a Hori Pad Mini. There's a couple of reviews of the Hori Pad Mini here:

here is the rarest n64 controller that ive heard of and i dont think its been discussed yet
you can either buy it for $30.00 or $300.00

http://cgi.ebay.com/Reality-Quests-The-Glove-Controller-RARE-AWKWARD_W0QQitemZ350264772327QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Accessories?hash=item518d6846e7

http://videogames.techfresh.net/ultra-rare-n64-power-glove-controller/

until today i didnt even know the n64 glove existed
as the ebay seller says it does cause severe arthritis yet i cant imagine it being very dangerous

I saw the n64 glove about a year ago on craigslist. When I saw an image of it I thought Ben Heck made a one handed n64 controller. It looks really uncomfortable >_< .

alxbly, have you ever tried it out before?  If so, how did it work?  And do you know if it works for every game, or just certain ones?

I only briefly tried it and it didn't feel that great. It's not the same kind of thing as the power glove, it's more a controller you can strap to one arm. The buttons are all on the front of the controller and their placement makes it very different to most N64 controllers when being used. I need to get used to the button layout before I can really judge it but it's not doing me any favours just now... ^_^

Posted Image

As you can see, you strap it to your arm... maybe so that you can exercise whilst you play or something. I dunno. It's weird. Anyway, here I tried to pull my fingers back a bit so you can see where the buttons are:

Posted Image

And here's a close up of the button placement:

Posted Image

The L, Z, R, A, B, Start and C buttons are all right next to each other, with that grey nub thing being the control. Or maybe it's the D-pad. I've forgotten, to be honest. I'm dreading writing a review about this one because I'll need to use it quite a lot to get used to the buttons...
>_<
The Glove was discussed a few pages back. It's terrible. Don't waste any money on it.

Guy trying to sell it for $300 = another douchebag thinking "oh look, dis controlla so rare it must be worth a milliun dollarz" and trying to cash in. It's an oddity but it doesn't have any real value, which is why both auctions are/were "Buy it now" (because if it was down to bids it's unlikely they'd get much more than $15).

The makers name is Reality Quest, and yes I did own one. It would be kind of weird for me to have posted photos with my name on them and gameplay impressions if I didn't own one.... ^_^

It is complicated because you have to relearn the button placement (it's totally different from the standard N64 controller).

If you had two of the glove controller, it would allow you to play a 2-player game with a glove in each hand. And that... is something I've always wanted to do.

That would definitely work... IF you had two right hands. And 100%/isolated left-brain/right-brain coordination. Of course, given that you've already made the adjustment to the completely alien button placement.

For those photos it wasn't. ^_^

I never could get used to the button placement, it was like learning a completely new controller. I gave up in the end. Did you get anywhere with it floorcat?

That would be a big, fat, nope. I swear I must've spent a whole five minutes before I realized that the commitment (to adjust) would be huge, and the gain would be minimal (or non-existant/negative, rather). My apologies for shirking it onto you. >_< X_D

No need for apologies, I was keen to try it out. :) But it's like a lot of third party products; they sound like a great idea but in practice... >_<

I spent three years of searching for the ultimate N64 controller and it turns out that it's the one Nintendo provide with the console. ^_^

Really?? I stopped my search when I found what _I_ believe to be the ultimate N64 controller... the SuperPad/MakoPad 64.

I don't really like the SuperPad/Makopad. I can see why people do like it though; super-durable control stick, access to all buttons and a nice, comfy, ergonomic design. But it's the buttons that put me off, the c buttons lose their intuitive nature and z no longer feels like a proper trigger. I guess I wanted a standard N64 controller but just with a more durable stick. Lube solves that problem (lube solves a lot of problems... :yeah: ), so I never really felt the need to relearn the buttons for the SuperPad/MakoPad.

Can't give too much away, but the FBI were interested in this "fictional" i-scream truck. Laying low until the heat is off and I find somewhere safe to bury the bodies. And the vegetables. >:-]
