This cancellation is a crime against every DS owner on God's green Earth! Anybody know why it was never released?
Give this man a fish, and he can throw it up eleven times

I'm kind of surprised by this. Isn't Bungie a 2nd party developer? Wouldn't that prevent them from even considering a game on a non-Microsoft system?

^ They are a second-party developer for Microsoft. That in itself hasn't stopped other second-party Microsoft developers making games for the DS. Rare are a good example; second-party but have still made Diddy Kong Racing DS and the forthcoming Viva Pinata Party Animals DS.

I think that perhaps Halo DS was a step too far for Microsoft to feel comfortable with. I imagine they would need to very carefully consider the impact of releasing such a well established franchise on a non-Microsoft platform; i.e. anything other than Xbox or PC.

Halo makes a boat load of money anyways so I don't see how releasing this game would hurt anyone.

Yeah, but releasing it on DS would make a load of money... for Nintendo! Which is something I'm sure Microsoft would like to avoid if possible. Other games which are likely to generate less revenue might be seen as okay, but a million seller like Halo is a more risky proposition. It is the franchise that people associate with Xbox and Xbox 360, after all. Would Microsoft be happy if more copies of Halo DS sold and the Halo brand began being associated with Nintendo?

This one is about more than just sales, otherwise we'd all be playing Halo DS by now.

It would still be cool to exist, though.

Bungie are now an independant (3rd party) developer! See this topic:

Perhaps we might see Halo DS after all. :o

I think they might need to rename it as Nimbus or something.

Don't give them ideas! That's the Halo spin-off they are going to make! Chief Master solves all his problems by poasting notices on bulletin boards all across town! As long as it is super-hyped and has a soda tie-in, it'll sell millions!

Lol, yeah, just been there. One of the advantages of living the centre of town... taxi to the store, Halo ODST bought and I'm just playing it just now. :D

Yeah, went to the midnight opening of Gamestation here in Edinburgh. Well, I say midnight... I got there at about half past and the shop was empty. They still had lots of copies of the Halo 3: ODST Limited Edition (with controller) left but for £59.99... nah, no thanks. Maybe if I didn't already have three 360 controllers it would have semed a better deal. Standard edition was £34.99, which isn't too bad since it's only a fiver more expensive than ordering online at Amazon/Play.com.

Anyway, I'm on the second level now and the game seems alright so far.

So Spikie since I know you'll be playing this, so what did you think?

Remember back when I was actually more clever and less of an ass? It's hard to believe that was only two years ago.

Anyways, Halo sucks. A lot.

...Do I have to go warn myself now?

For what is "ODST" an acronym? On-Demand Super Trooper?

Close, it's "Orbital Drop Shock Troopers". The game actually takes away the "super-trooper" feel of the previous games; you play as some of the soldiers that were much more outclassed and being slaughtered by the enemy whilst Master Chief was kicking ass.

I finished the game tonight. It's a slow burner... starts off okay, gets good in places and raises up to being really damned good at the end. The campaign is relatively short but still a real blast and it feels closer to the original Halo than any of the other games. :)
