I need your help deciding which games to purchase. I have 3 sections: Undecided, Buying, Not Buying. I mainly need help with the Undecided section, but I’d also like to hear if you agree/disagree with anything from the other 2 sections.

Undecided:
Battletanx 2: Global Assault
(leaning towards yes) - blowing things up looked fun, and I’ve heard positive things about this game

Vigilante 8 (totally undecided) - the graphics looked great, but I thought I heard some annoying sound effects. However, I’ve only seen positive comments about this game.

Aero Fighters Assault (leaning towards yes) – looks like a 3D version of U.N. Squadron, sounds challenging but hopefully not overwhelming, the bosses looked big and fun to destroy. I might find more enjoyment by playing Rogue Squadron (gamecube) and Blazing Angels (wii).

Tetrisphere (totally undecided) – I am nuts about tetris, but I guess this isn’t exactly the same. I can’t judge if it has the same addictive gameplay – maybe it just needs to be experienced?

Wetrix (totally undecided) – looks fun and I played this very briefly once before. Sounds like the difficulty is very tough. I’d really like to hear comments.

Yoshi's Story (leaning towards yes) – I can’t get over how cool this looks, but there are so many negative reviews. Is there anything negative besides the short game length and kiddy stuff?

Gauntlet Legends (leaning towards yes) – I don’t have experience with the arcade version, and most negative comments came from people that played the arcade version. Would this game be fun enough on single player? Is it a bit too repetitive?

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion (leaning towards yes) – I love Turok 1 & Resident Evil, and I plan to purchase this if I enjoy Turok 2.

Games I will buy (hopefully I made the right choice):
Body Harvest – watched a video and loved the sound & isolated feeling
Star Fox 64 – never played SNES Star Fox, but this seemed like one I should not pass up
Donkey Kong 64 – I really enjoy Kazooie & Tooie, so wanted to try this
Shadow Man – chosen mainly because of its high ratings
Rocket: Robot on Wheels – always mentioned when people discuss hidden gems on N64
Rayman 2 – high ratings, nice looking
Mischief Makers – always felt like trying this, and it looks unique
WinBack – some negative comments, but looks like it could be a fun one
Hybrid Heaven – I once had an interest in this game, and noticed it was $2 locally, so I bought it
Blast Corps. – seemed like game that shouldn’t be passed up, and it’s made by Rare
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil – I love Turok 1, so I am giving this a shot

Games I will pass on (they were in the running):
Forsaken 64 – I figure I could play a FPS on a PC for more enjoyment
Battlezone: Rise of the Black Dogs – comments about this game weren’t great
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron – I was told the gamecube version (which I own) is superior
Star Wars: Battle for naboo – since I’m passing on rogue squadron, I’m passing on this
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer – looks nice, but I can’t stand grinding the edges on tight tracks
F-Zero X – If it’s like the SNES version, then it’s easy to mis-jump and die & I don’t like that
The New Tetris – sounds like Tetris Party on wii is the better way to go
Worms: Armageddon – I have a PC version of worms available that I could play
Bomberman 64: Second Attack – not a big bomberman fan, I think I could pass
Goemon's Great Adventure – the Japanese influence looks too heavy for my taste
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon – the Japanese influence looks too heavy for my taste
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards – wasn’t heavy into Kirby, so I figured I’d pass
Flying Dragon – not ‘huge’ into fighting games, and watching a video didn’t change my decision

Hmmm. it looks like maybe you have made up your mind. But I will say,.. if the only reason that you are not picking up some of those games is because you already have them on the Cube and such, you might reconsider. Or think about it. I have them on both. But I am odd in that I prefer carts to disc when gaming. And I guess I am speaking of the Star Wars games.
The Star Wars Episode 1 Racer is super fun to play. And you are missing out on a great game by avoiding F-Zero X. And speaking of Forsaken 64, it plays like Descent, if you have ever played it on a PC. I do not like FPS. But I have a lot of fun with Forsaken 64. I even forget that I am playing a FPS. It is very smooth and the controls are right on.

I know that I really have not been a lot of help, being that you have already written these games off your list, but you did list them in your post. And I just had to say something. If you have a couple of dollars, you can pick up any one of those games sometimes off of eBay for about that much.

Yoshi's Story is a pretty good game. I think it depends on your expectations. If you are looking for a "part 2" of Yoshi's Island then you will be disappointed.

To me StarFox is the best game of its type. But then again, I am a space shooter fanboy. :w00t:

Forsaken 64 – This is a good game, albeit one which seems to divide opinion. People tend to be put off by the controls but anyone who has spent the time getting used to them will find a surpringly good and really quite unique shooter. Retro Junkie is right, this is like a graphical upgrade of Descent, and totally different from any other shooter on the N64.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron – It's true that Rogue Leader is better, but this is still a very good game. You're missing out if you don't play it.

Star Wars: Battle for naboo – Technically better than Rogue Squadron (i.e. looks nicer, better draw distance and runs a little smoother) but I didn't think it was... well... it doesn't feel much like a Star Wars game. It's still fun, but it seems like the actual Star Wars content is pretty thin.

Star Wars Episode 1 Racer – Buy it. From memory, there's very few areas of the track where you grind edges, most tracks are actually pretty generous. But the game does get tough towards the end.

F-Zero X – Jumps are easy. Not a problem, especially once you get used to the layout of the tracks.

Here’s where we stand now (based on this message board, and other places where I’ve posted). I’ll be getting Battletanx 2 & Vigilante 8. I’m 95% sure I’ll buy Yoshi’s Story as well. I will pass on Gauntlet Legends, and look into the Gamecube version of Gauntlet.

I haven’t heard too much about these yet, so please comment:
Aero Fighters Assault (sounds like I can get something better on a different console)
Tetrisphere (only heard 1 comment that it's fun, but nothing like tetris)
Wetrix (is it extremely difficult to the point of frustration?)
Turok 3 (is it basically a cross between turok & resident evil?)

I am reconsidering these games and might purchase them:
F-Zero X (I didn't like extreme corners on narrow tracks on the SNES)
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (is F-Zero X better than this one?)
Goemon's Great Adventure (I thought SNES mystical ninja was just 'ok')
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (I thought SNES mystical ninja was just 'ok')

Battletanx 2: Global Assault Yeah it's pretty good. Don't expect anything with any sort of strategy, but the variety of weapons and powerups help keep things interesting.

Tetrisphere It's difficult to say if you'd like this. This is my favourite puzzle game, but I'm actually not much of a fan of Tetris. Tetrisphere is more goal-oriented than high-score-oriented, which some may not like. The basic goal is to uncover a certain amount of the core by removing the blocks, and then you'll move on to the next stage. To do this, the block you place must touch two or more of the same type of block. If the block doesn't, then you'll get a "miss"; three of these and you're out. Oh, and it has the best puzzle game soundtrack ever. Believe it.

Wetrix I wouldn't say it is difficult but rather that it seems incredibly random. I never got the feeling that there was any sort of method to placing the pieces or how scoring works, so I just gave up on it.

Yoshi's Story The game is as long as you make it. Besides the two complaints you mentioned, it's also pretty easy. That is, if all you do is blast through it as quick as possible. If you treat it as a high-score game -- as it was intended -- then it can provide a challenge in collecting the 30 melons on each stage and attempting to better your scores.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion It isn't as good as the previous ones but still worth it. Especially because it is cheap.

Body Harvest This game had potential but I feel it ultimately falls flat. The controls are terrible, the graphics are an eye-sore, and save points are few and far between. If you can overlook this however then you might enjoy exploring the large maps and using the variety of vehicles. With how cheap it is now it is worth checking out for yourself.

Star Fox 64 Never played it. But I've heard it is the best in the series, and being on the Nintendo 64, I'm ready to believe that.

Donkey Kong 64 It's a good game but there is even more collecting useless garbage than Banjo-Kazooie, so be prepared for that.

Rocket: Robot on Wheels This game is amazing, I would say it's right up there with the best platformers, which is really saying something. The physics engine steals the show.

Hybrid Heaven If you REALLY want an RPG-ish game on the Nintendo 64, then this is something. But it really isn't that great. The fights can be interesting, but the exploration parts are kind of boring, and the story is weak. The ending is just ridiculous, and not in a good way.

Blast Corps. One of the most unique games ever, you won't regret it. There's a lot of challenge in this little game so come prepared.

F-Zero X It isn't like the Super NES version in that regard, it is much easier to stay on the track. The game is still pretty bland though, but it does provide quite a challenge if you're looking for one. Too much to be fun, I think, as one mistake is enough to ruin a race. Plus the rubberbanding is pretty ridiculous, you'll hear the announcer say "Right on, you're way out in front!" then get passed by someone a second later.

The New Tetris It's a terrible game, any version of Tetris is better. Except maybe Tetris Worlds, but other than that...

Mystical Ninja Starring GoemonJapanese influence? That's a silly excuse to miss out on a good game. This one isn't like the Super NES game or its sequel, Goemon's Great Adventure. Instead of a 2D side-scroller, it is a 3D adventure game like Zelda. A pretty enjoyable and wonderfully quirky one, no less.
