I have a few comments and questions on the system and was very shocked to see there wasn't a thread dedicated to the Super Nintendo! (unless of course I missed it and in that case I'm sure one of the mods will correct my error)

First, I got rid of my NES because I was tired of spending 5 minutes to get a game working (yes, even after I have cleaned EVERYTHING). So of course Super Mario All-Stars was bought instantly. I got the one that also has Super Mario World! This may be one of the best cartridges...ever! Absolutely perfect, once you get past the "upgraded" graphics. I bought it along with Super Mario RPG for $40 at a local store. Money I think was wisely spent.

This is the only system that I have a problem with the screen burning. After only a few minutes the image gets burned in to the screen. It goes away after I shut my TV off for awhile, but still it burns in again when I am playing. I have it hooked up via the standard Nintendo composite cables. Would it help to use S-Video (don't know if that is a stupid ? or not)? Or will I just have to deal with it?

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System is one brillant system. I love it with a passion and used to spend many hours on it. I say it's my 2nd favorite video game system, next to the Nintendo 64.

I have about 70 games for this system. And I still pick one up occasionally. I seam to be addicted to playing Gradius III or Star Fox on my portable FC16 Go by Yobo. Love the SNES system. I feel that it is from the golden age of gaming. :yeah:

i currently have 252 253 SNES cartridges. it is my favourite console (present company excepted) and gaming era, purely for sentimental reasons. my ex-gf introduced me to the SNES and we played many games of Super Mario World, All Stars and Donkey Kong Country together when we weren't busy playing other games. When she left me she gave "our" system to someone else just to spite me and pretty soon i just bought another one. That was actually the start of my collection. Still hate her though...

My all-time SNES favourite is a tie between Yoshi's Island (or Miyamoto on Magic Shrooms as i like to call it) and Donkey Kong Country. Runners-up: Super Mario World, R-Type 3, Super Metroid, Harvest Moon, Lost Vikings etc etc etc. The worst.game.ever for the SNES is probably The Lawnmower Man... the movie is unwatchable and the game is unplayable. virtual reality my foot!

Harvest Moon...now there is a game everyone overlooks or seems to hate. Glad to see another fan of it but it is soooo expensive on the SNES. I played the 64 one to death...

My favourites right now would be the DK series for platformers, Zelda ALTTP for action adventure, and FFIII for RPG's

i am sad to say i traded my snes, games, and super gameboy for a gameboy pocket.
i was desperate for a gb pocket to play pokemon on, and my brother took advantage of that.
what is worse, after 2 years, it didn't even work anymore.

wish i had hung on to it :(

i had:
super mario world
mario paint
mario all stars
double dragon
f zero
battle toads
tetris attack
and i think a mortal kombat also.
seems like some other stuff too, but i can't remember.

i also included with the super gameboy
mario and the 6 golden coins
and a teenage mutant ninja turtles game.

i was SO foolish

Not SNES related but I can totally relate to what you must have felt.
I had sold a Turbografx 16 system (and a few other things on the urgings of my non-gaming girlfriend, who wanted less 'clutter' around the place) a couple years ago, and as soon as I done it I knew I made a mistake. Recently bought one again but I have nowhere near the amount of stuff I had for it before.
Morale of the story, unless you know that you're 100% certain you will never play that game/console again and it will just sit there gathering dust, or you really desperately need the money, never ever sell off your systems and games. you WILL miss them and will want them back.

hear hear!
it doesnt make any economical sense either; unless its something very rare you will always lose money on the deal.
I only sell duplicates and everything else will remain mine until the day i shuffle off this mortal coil.

Harvest Moon... [snip] it is soooo expensive on the SNES

i think i only paid 2 or 3 euro... it is very hard to find 'in the wild' and i personally think its even rarer here in Europe but if you're on the hunt every weekend, you will find the craziest things eventually. These past two weeks i've picked up Secret Of Mana and a Castlevania - Vampire's Kiss cartridge all for < 3 euro each. Just avoid "professional" sellers and retro gameshops, they know how much they can charge for the good stuff. Stick to boot and garage-sales, fleamarkets and such.

i have learned from that experience. about a year after that, i was going to sell him 10 n64 games for $100. i was about to move and needed the money. he instead offered to trade me 10 for a gun that was worth about $90. i agreed, and he also threw in as a bonus, a gerber knife. long story short the gerber knife was worth $180. so i felt better about getting ripped off before. he didn't know what it was worth.

i have since bought a few of the 10 back, as i really missed them. i will likely never sell or trade anything game related again.

i love the hole idea of harvest moon but from what i've heard from reviews is that the game only lasts about 4hours before you finish it.

if you like zelda ALTTP then you should get secret of mana, better colours, graphics, enemies, items and more challenging.

The mini SNES Classic launches in September for $80

Quote:

Nintendo has revealed details for the SNES Classic. The standalone mini console will feature 21 games, including Super Mario World, Earthbound, Super Mario Kart, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. But the most surprising inclusion is Star Fox 2, the unreleased sequel to the original Star Fox for SNES.

The Super NES Classic Edition will launch on September 29th for $79.99. Like its predecessor the NES Classic, it will allow players to easily play retro games on high-definition televisions, thanks to an HDMI connection.

The full list of games included on the SNES Classic follows:

Contra III: The Alien Wars
Donkey Kong Country
EarthBound
Final Fantasy III
F-ZERO
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Dream Course
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Mega Man X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox
Star Fox 2
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Super Punch-Out!!
Yoshi's Island

The Super NES Classic is Nintendo's follow-up to the NES Classic, which launched in fall 2016. The console was notoriously difficult to find due to limited stock, and was discontinued earlier this year.

Genius to include Star Fox 2 as a lot of people still haven't played it.

That's a fan-freaking-tastic lineup of games. I want one. Really bad. But I have zero faith that these will be any easier to find than the NES Classic. Not looking forward to that again.

The news of the SNES mini bodes rather well for an N64 mini somewhere down the road, no?

The inclusion of Star Fox 2 will make the SNES mini an insta-buy for many folks but it's a tad disappointing that Mortal Kombat II isn't included in the mix. It's also curious that Street Fighter II Turbo is in the lineup and not Super Street Fighter II. I'm not complaining, though, because I think that Turbo is the better game.

Nintendo has said they'll be shipping "significantly more" SNES Classic units than they did with the NES, but that it will also be a limited time product available only from September to the end of the year.

My timing was either great or terrible, as I just bought an SNES last week and got it today.

I'm all over this one and I might even use my retail connection to assure I get one at launch. My only complaint with the lineup is the absence of DKC 2 & 3 but I can live with that. And you get two controllers!

That just blew the news feed and Star Fox 2 is trending in 2017 and I persume there do N64 mini next year. But still two other classics coming to, Atari and sega mega drive, I personally choose snes and Atari because of frogger and pitfall. My dad remembers pitfall so he'll play that maybe one day & my mum would play frogger. This to show I don't think they will do handhelds aka gameboy classics but who knows.

And also I preordered Atari 8 HD and snes classic mini cause they come with two controllers.

Japan ended up getting Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers on the Super Famicom Classic Edition while other regions got Street Fighter II Turbo. I wonder why? Did Super sell better in Japan than it did elsewhere?
