Some ASCII's are two-toned where the bottom is a solid black.

So far, I've identified and own 4 of the full clear colors. I've identified 7 different two-toned colors, and I have 6 of them. Let me know if you have any other questions
Would you care to make a list of these two-toned 'on Black' ASCII controllers as well? I'm sure this would help reassure other collectors that they they're getting an official release.

I'm aware of 3 so far... Blue Marble on Black, Silver on Black and Gold on Black.

If you look carefully at my diagram, you'll see that the coloring of the words basically give away which ones have black backs

Wow! I see now that the diagram actually depicts both front and back colours, a very clever implementation, well done sir :yeah:

Good luck in your quest for that elusive black one

This kind of thing is definitely something I have a geeky interest in. I've spent the night searching for various JANs [Japanese Article Numbering] and found 19 that correspond to ASCII Pad 64 models, so make of that what you will. There's also some different names that seem to keep cropping up so I've included them, however there's no guarantee they are official, others I haven't a clue how to translate from the kanji:

I've edited the list to include the release dates. The best website is this one which lists all models except for Pink Marble, for some reason and seems to list the Clear Black twice? Sadly none of the later models have images so their status remains "unconfirmed" for now.

If you open these two images in different tabs, and flick back and forth between them, they seem to be the same metallic blue model to me. I would just say that the German auction has a stronger light source directed on it at the top. To get a good gauge of the blue tones I compare the A button with the rest of the controller.
