I thought this would kinda make for an interesting thread. Games you were never able to complete because they were just too damn hard. the one that immediately come to mind would be Ninja Gaiden Black on the Xbox. Just trying to beat the first boss on normal mode was an absolute disaster for me. I sometimes think that the 'Ninja Dog Mode' in the game was made just for me. ![]() I also want to mention MDK2 for the Dreamcast but I guess it's probably on 99.99% of every list out there. Just a brutal game from start to finish. Hated it. I ended up giving the game away. Feel sorry for the poor sod who got it from me. ![]() another toughie would be Cliffhanger for the Sega CD. The terrible controls makes this an even harder game than it already is. I hear that the 'Ghouls and Ghosts' series of games are pretty hard but I've never played any of them. I'm also not a fan of the 'shoot 'em ups' but I'm always hearing of some incredibly tough games in that genre. Anyway, I was wondering what experience you guys and gals have had in terms of games you've never been able to complete because of how difficult they were. |

Quite a lot of old PC games I played which had no save option. Partly because I didn't have the patience to keep playing them over and over and I didn't have my own computer back then. Captain Comic Arkanoid 3-Demon Starquake Eye of Horus First ones that come to mind. Edited by Vyothric, Nov 28 2010, 10:38 AM.

i guess the getaway is the closest thing for me. it is not that is was unbelievably hard or anything, i just got frustrated then lost interest. i think it was driving on the wrong side of the road (for me anyways) and across the huge city. i kept getting in to wrecks, and getting busted. i had it about the same time as vice city, needless to say it kind of got put on the back burner. i never went back. it had all kind of style and was cool looking, but i doubt i will ever finish it. mario 64 could make a case with me. i have 118 stars. i have often thought about going after the last 2, but they are just so hard to get! Ooooooohhhh... nice topic. And yes, I'd have to put in a vote for Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the SNES... I NEVER finished it... even after coming SO CLOSE, SO MANY TIMES!! I swear the end boss had killed me a good 50 or so times before I finally gave up. And to make matters worse, there's a level-select cheat code to jump straight to the last fight, which STILL didn't make things easier because you're given the basic lance you get at the start of the game, and no opportunity for any of the sweet power ups (almost necessary for this fight).I think that was the first game I actually all-out gave up on. And I haven't done that often in my life. Perhaps not even once since! Case in point... Wipeout HD, which I think deserves an honorable mention here... An honorable mention, only because I actually DID complete the campaign on the hardest (elite) difficulty. Managed to get 100% of the trophies, too... which I swear will be the #1 hardest video game related feat I'll ever accomplish. Talk about frustratingly difficult!! |

I almost made a new topic but I found this and thought I'd resurrect it. I was just curious what you guys think are the hardest games out there. I recently played Heart of Darkness for the original PlayStation and it is quite difficult. Puzzle solving and platforming that is relentlessly ruthless, at least to me. Has anyone ever played it? What are some other hard games out there? |

This is a great topic! F-Zero X on the hardest setting took me three years to finally beat. Yeah, I did beat it but I gave up in disgust for a while because I didn't think I was progressing. Then F-Zero X was the game of the month here at N64 Forever and for whatever reason I finally earned the new title screen with a win in the Master Cup. Oh, I've never completely beaten the original NES version of Castlevania. I've gotten to Dracula but I always lose to his second beast-like form.

Nice topic revival! Updating what I said a couple of years ago: Super Mario Sunshine - I ran into a problem level for me, and lost interest. It was early on, and I have often thought of trying it again. Syphon Fliter - Interest fizzled out when I got to a place I could not get past Mission Impossible 0- The same as above Honestly, it isn't that they were too tough, it was more a lack of interest meeting a moderate amount of difficulty. I have beaten much harder games than these because I stuck with them out of interest |

The Minish Cap. I've gotten to the very last boss fight with Vaati but I just couldn't beat him no matter how many times I tried. I eventually considered myself as having beat it and sold the game to my brother. I recently bought it back from him so I need to give it another shot but I don't want to start all over again.

I could never achieve 100% in Banjo Tooie, there's a button mashing segment where your forced to race a bird by tapping the A button, I swear to god it's impossible. Hurt my hands so much as a kid and could still never beat it. Here's the race on youtube, it's with "Canary Mary", that b#tch. lol Just by watching it you'll see how much hell you'll have to endure, ha. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ookPAT_9XAg |

There's been a ton of NES games that I hit the wall on, and a few games on the SNES and other systems too. But I'll just focus on the N64 games: I've definitely hit the wall in Blast Corps for N64. I don't think I'll ever be able to finish it. Thought I may try again one day. It's that damn level where you have to use the backlash to plow through huge buildings and you have almost no time to make an error. Star Fox 64: I can never get by the fight with Star Wolf after taking the hard path to Venom. But at least I can beat the game using the easy/medium paths, unlike... Star Wars Rogue Squadron. I can't get past the level where you have to beat the walkers with the snowspeeder, which unfortunately is the 4th level of the game. I hear this is a common phenomenon, apparantly a lot of people have trouble with this level. Turok Dinosaur Huner: Okay, I haven't given up on this one yet! Hopefully someday soon I'll be able to finish it off. I'm just bad at First-person shooters but one of these day I'll figure out which way to point the gun. ![]() If it makes you feel any better, that's a lot further than I've ever gotten in the original Castlevania!

I know that bit of the game. My GF played through most of Banjo Tooie until that point, she then passed the controller to me. I'm proud to say, I beat that b"tches as$ but also destroyed my thumb in the process One of the hardest games I've come across would have to be Dezaemon 3D an N64 JAP game. This shooter is hard, the word hard being an understatement. |

really ? one day a friend and I played this in 2-player mode and got it through the end. we noticed a secret entrance in the second to last level after we got through the normal entrance. we beat the game and re-did all the game to get to the secret level. damn was hard. but we got it. we did all this in one sitting lol took a good 4-5 hours but was worth the experience. |

Matt, I feel silly for complaining about that. That is the only game I own that requires me to drive that way. You lefties have to face that challenge MUCH more than I do! |

I still stand by my first post in this thread. Thinking back on it, I could probably beat Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts now... as there's no WAY it would be harder than what I went through for my WipEout HD completion! As far as recent games go, I almost gave up on Lumines: Electronic Symphony (PS Vita)... getting to master zone 5 in Zone Mode almost killed me!! |

Hiya! Now I don't want to show off, but we did finish this game. Every man, uncle, child or grandfather that visited our house would have a go at Bubble Bobble on our old 486Hz. It was a joint effort and it took many months, but we finally finished it! Once finished you get to start from the beginning again but the colours change. I can't remember if it stays at a frantic speed when you start again but I remember the last levels were proper hectic!

I Have never been beaten by a game (yet) if i can not beat a game and start getting stressed out by it, i normally put it down and come back to it in couple of days/weeks and just keep trying till i beat it. But two games that stressed me out that i actually ended up chucking the pad agaisnt the wall was Turtles for the NES, and Contra for the NES also... They took me couple of years to actually complete(Not full on play, just going back to them now and then) but i did beat them eventually

Resident Evil 4? Anybody? ha my first play-through I died, a lot. Maybe I just managed my items poorly. Also always thought the original was difficult too.
