Video games or stages in a game that remind you of the holidays.; Games that you've played that remind you or put you in the holiday mood.

One of the earliest games I remember playing was 'Outlaws' for the PC. It was an FPS released by LucasArts, with a Wild West type setting.

My parents were against buying me any type of game which looked it had some violence in it. Fortunately for me my dad also used to play a few video games back in the day and he was a huge fan of anything to do with the Western genre. Be it books, movies or games.

So he had bought that game during the earlier part of 1997 and I remember he used to keep it in his study room with the rest of his computers and stuff. So by Christmas of that year I used to sneak into the study and play the game whilst trying not to get noticed.

Anyway, my dad did eventually catch me playing it but instead of being upset as I thought he would be, we ended up playing the rest of the game together! That made my dad the coolest guy ever in my eyes. :w00t:

So I was still quite young at that time but I still clearly remember most of the games great storyline, the amazing (for me anyway) cut-scenes and great game-play.

Every time I fire that game up now even if it's to play only a stage or two, it always reminds me of the holidays and gaming with my dad. :D

So has any game as a whole or just a particular stage in a game ever made you guys reminisce and remind you of the holiday period and Christmas?

great topic, gazza!

as a matter of fact every year at about thanksgiving to christmas time i get a real hankering for n64 games in general. they remind me of the holiday season. i got my n64 for christmas in 96, and always got most of my great games around the holidays. there was a lot of time spent with friends when school was out. being so cold outside drove us inside to play games even more.

speaking more specifically, diddy kong racing probably makes me think of christmas more than anything else. many of the levels have a christmas feeling.
i spent many hours on it during that holiday season, so i guess i just kind of fixated it with the holidays in my mind.

fallout 3 makes me think of christmas a bit too. got it for christmas the year before last. stayed up way late playing it with my brother in law.

Twilight Princess does it for me, particularly early on in the village and ranch. I had just got a Wii for Christmas and received Zelda in addition to Wii Sports (which also makes me feel a bit Christmasy, but much less so).

A bit off topic, but does anyone else connect smells with certain games? There's a Christmas air freshener that always reminds me of Twilight Princess and a hand wash that makes me think of Timesplitters 2. Am I alone in this?

interesting about the smells. i don't think i have ever had that happen. there was a certain road in my old town that always made me think of wrestlemania 2000. never could figure that one out, unless perhaps i drove home that way after renting it maybe? who knows

Many snow levels remind me of the holidays. The last one I played in was Freezeezy Peak in Banjo Kazooie.

When I listen to certain songs, I'll be reminded of Golden Sun. I used to listen to a CD on repeat while I played the game. Since I rarely listen to it now, I don't associate anything new with it so the Golden Sun memory is still there.
