just a gripe... my laptop crapped out on me this past weekend. it is about 4 years old, but had only been used for 1 year. it constantly restarts its' self after i boot it up and the screen does nothing. the few times i got the screen to work it was telling me it had to recover from a serious error, and then froze. next start up it said it needed to repair the start up files, i say ok and then it froze. next 2 start ups i got random white and red colors all over the screen along with a muffed up hp logo. it has since done nothing but continually restart its' self when i try to load it. no warranty, so that's great! i really hope i can somehow get it back up and running. i will be losing a ton of files otherwise. anyhow just wanted to rant about it.

My Macbook Pro just crashed on me too the other day. Haven't been able to fix it and I'm still trying to figure out how to extract files from its hard drive.

shangyou, sorry to hear your macbook crashed. good luck with getting the files off. floorcat, yes i have not had a good year with electronics i guess it hardly ever went on the net. it hadn't been on the web in a good 2 weeks when i happened. i am not sure what happened. it honestly seems like a hardware and software problem at the same time... |

Oh man, that sucks, stinger9142 and Shangyou. I've luckily never experienced a severe computer crash, and the most I've ever lost is single essays and so on. Losing large quantities of files would be awful! Shangyou, if you are trying to extract files, there are a few options you can use. If you can get the startup chime on the MacBook Pro, you could try booting into Target Disk Mode by holding down the T key on startup. This would essentially turn your computer into an external hard drive, and you could link it to another computer using a FireWire cable. This would be the most straightforward way of extracting files. If the computer won't even start up, I would recommend you find an external hard drive casing, and plug your MacBook's hard drive into the enclosure. This would essentially turn the hard drive into an external drive, from which you could copy files. If the hard drive itself got damaged in the crash, I would recommend running software like Data Rescue over it to see if any old files can be recovered (they probably can), before going to a professional. I hope some of that helps, although you may well have thought of it all before! ![]() Also, hell yeah MacBook Pro. I'll be getting one of those, plus a free iPod touch, in about a month, in preparation for first-year university this year. Thank you, educational discount and Apple promotions! Cheers, Franklint |

No, the board (much like my ps3) has flux that has separated around the video output area. I am currently not interested in attempting to fix it (much like my ps3)
