Saw El laberinto del fauno (a.k.a. Pan's Labyrinth) for the second time this weekend... but for the first time in glorious Blu-ray. And to be 100% truthfully honest... I couldn't tell the difference in screen resolution from regular DVD. >_< Granted, I was only watching on a projected image at 720p and not the full 1080p... but seriously, as far as my eyes can tell... VHS:DVD =/= DVD:Blu-ray

I mean, don't get me wrong... the picture was of really nice quality... just quite indistinguishable (to me) from DVD. Maybe the Blu-ray "port" might be to blame... or maybe projecting it into an 80" image is the cause... or maybe it's because I watched most of it at 2am... I don't know just yet. But for the time being, consider me not impressed about Blu-ray. :nope:

As for the movie itself, it's rlyrly goooood. You all should watch it if you haven't already. And if you have, watch it again. In Blu-ray. And then tell me how you're also not impressed. <_>

Gonna try out 300 next in the ol' Blu-ray... (which I've also seen on regular DVD with my projector).
Now Playing: Clash Royale (mobile), Gravity Rush 2, Rayman Legends, Project CARS, Uncharted 4 Survival Mode ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

I might get Transformers on Blu-ray so that I can do a DVD vs Blu-ray comparison.

Any update on the DVD/BD comparison?

I'd be curious to read the results from someone with a "proper" TV. ;)
I'd seen a few movies recently... all due thanks to the plastic disc-shaped AWESOME that is Dead Space...

Sunshine - Never heard of this one before people were mentioning it in relation to Dead Space... and surprisingly good!! :w00t: perhaps had a few slightly less-than-believable parts, but IMO certainly possible to forgive in light of the eerie moments, which were adequately decent in frequency and magnitude. Perhaps bested only by Event Horizon in the "catastrophic-failure-involving-a-lifeless/empty/haunted?-spaceship" category.

The Thing - Yes, John Carpenter's 1982 remake. A good 80's style gore-flick... more silly (if unintentional) than anything, but entertaining nonetheless.

Kinda in the mood now to watch Event Horizon again... <_>

Nah, I've still not used my PS3 as a bluray player. I might rent Transformers when I've got some free time.

Do you notice a big difference in games running in SD/HD?

Not a huge difference... but I definitely do notice it... even in certain PS2 games where you have to manually switch to progressive-scan each time you play (*ahem* GH: Rocks the 80s). Basically, I'd declare as fact that one would notice such things more in games, because you're on your own terms/time, and hence you'd have a much higher chance/frequency of seeing/noticing certain things than you would in a movie, where you're (normally) restricted to seeing everything once per viewing.

Progressive scan I don't notice so much. But the jump to 720p, that's where the magic starts.

I watched Wanted today. Decent film, crap ending.

Last movie I've watched was Sunshine, about a team on a spaceship with the mission to re-ignite the dying sun. Pretty good movie :)

I thought Iron Man was pretty good, considering it was a superhero movie and all, and if you measure by those standards, it's actually a very good movie :)

Last movies I've watched were Doomsday and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Doomsday was a good action movie, with a lot of blood and gore, more than you would expect in a normal action movie :P
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is still pretty hilarious X_D I haven't watched in a couple of years, but it still could make me laugh :P

The last movies I've watched were Revenge of the Nerds 1, 2 and 3. They're still okay, but they aren't as good as they used to be... Guess I've just seen them too often.

Last one I saw was Gattaca... gets teh florcatz :yeah: of approval

... might I add, that this was the first movie I "rented" from the PS Store. Not a bad setup, honestly!

BTW PS3 owners... do any of you encounter any "overscanning" with a component cable connection? (Where the entire screen is displaying the movie/game/etc., but about 5% of all the borders are cut off.)

I saw May last night... the second PSN rental for me. Fairly decent flick... a little disturbing & depressing... which means that it did a decent job at fulfilling its purpose. :pika:

Saw Eagle Eye at the theater last night. I liked it a lot, it was intense and had a couple awesome car chases. It's a paranoid techno-thriller in the vein of Enemy of the State with a hint of I, Robot on the side. :yeah:

 What's it like?
It's good but cheesy, with bad dialogue, sloppy acting and lots of stripping by girls who later become zombies.

I've watched The Incredible Hulk yesterday (the new one). Pretty good movie 8) a bit better than the first but still, nothing that special. The final fight scene was good though.

Not that I've already seen the movie (because I haven't), but I just saw the trailer for the upcoming Avatar movie... gotta say, from not knowing ANYthing beyond the fact that the video games were very average, I'm actually QUITE interested in the movie after watching the trailer. :w00t:

NINTENDO 64 FOREVER: AT THE MOVIES

Movies you've seen recently and/or if you want to recommend/bash a movie, this be your thread.

Saw "District 9" and "Up in the Air" over the past two days. I'm not a huge Sci-Fi freak, but District 9 was damn good.
"Up in the Air" was also a good movie.

Anyone care to comment on "Inglourious Basterds." Heard it's great. Just haven't had a chance to see it yet.

Regarding movies of a much earlier vintage,

The movie that launched Eastwood into prominence and what became the first movie in the Dollars Trilogy.

Cult movies, they branded them spaghetti western, but their drive, power and suspense was perhaps "above" what the then American theater had to offer in that specific regard, so the critics stamped them second grade.

Not to mention the music score which is a masterpiece. Absolutely quintessential Ennio Morricone.

To a faggy Hollywood critique this was foul and savage, to a man this is EPIC.

Oh yeah and,
Chuck Norris only exists because Clint Eastwood said it was okay.

inglourious basterds is great :D
it has a unique style, don't expect historical accuracy though.

i also thought district 9 was cool.

as far as movies i have seen lately and liked

the other guys: watched this late last weekend. i laughed a good bit.

the girl who played with fire & the girl with the dragon tattoo: both good foreign films with a kind of edgy style to them.

the book of eli: been a few months, but one of my fav's now

The last movie I saw was Salt. OMG, I was actually quite impressed!! Granted, there were a few over-the-top bits, but on the whole, it was QUITE enjoyable!!! :yeah: And when the credits rolled, I found out it was actually directed by Kurt Wimmer, who I believe did another movie I absolutely LOVE... Equilibrium.

(Granted, he also directed Ultraviolet. )
