Endure and survive...
For those of you who want to share, I thought it might be interesting to ask about everyone's occupation :D

I myself work for a automobile detailing company called Auto Image. We do mobile detailing, as well as the used cars for 4 different car lots. I have been there for almost 2 years. Prior to that I was an HVAC service technician for 2 and 1/2 years. Also did a lot of grocery store work, about 6 years worth <_<

Do you realize you put this under "other video Games"?

Also, i think theres a topic where people tell everyone about themselves, occupation being one of them. I may be wrong tho :eh:

OK, moved now. Took me a minute to figure out how to. That's what I get for having about 5 tabs open ;)

I don't recall a post about that, perhaps I will search for one to be sure...

OK, I searched to be sure and found no posts about jobs or occupations in any recent discussions.

There ya go

Here was the topic i was talking about...
http://s9.zetaboards.com/Nintendo_64_Forever/topic/419712/3/#new

But i guess it doesnt include occupation! My bad

Anyways, im a line cook. Ive held every position there is within the kitchen. I started washing dishes at 14, then went right up to a line cook by 17. I cooked at one of the nicest italian resteraunts in my area called "Johnny Macaroni's".

Unfortunately due to personal issues i had to quit and now im a pizza cook at a local pub. Its a downgrade, but its a job for now.. and with this economy, what more could i ask for. Im currently looking for another job so i can get back up to where i was. I know im good at what i do, and its just wasted talent in a pizza shop.

This is all part time, as im a full time student :yeah:

Cool :D

I am not too handy in the kitchen. I am sure it is a great skill to have. I hope you find another job where you feel you aren't wasted. You are absolutely right though - In this economy, a job is a job!

Yeah, I checked that topic 1st to make sure it was not included before posting this one.

It is a great skill to have. Its good to know that ill be able to cook for myself when i move out :D

But back to the job part... for me, i like a place where there is room for improvement. Like with my old job, i started out as a dishwasher, and moved up. But where im at now, im just kinda stuck. Like im a pizza cook, thats it. Theres no step above, and the pay sure isnt going to get much higher.

I dont see cooking being my career. Im going to school for business (accounting/financing) but who knows, maybe ill be able to open my own restaurant someday! A place where you can eat fine cuisine and play retro games!? haha

That sounds like a place I want to go to! Just make sure they wash their hands before grabbing a controller

I know what you mean, nobody wants a dead end job.

I don't have a job at the moment (I turn in a damned application every weekend to a different place. Been doing that consistently since October 2008), but I'm currently getting my bachelor's degree in Network Security over at ECPI.

Some pretty cool jobs and courses you guys are studying there.

I'm an IT manager for a small department at one of Englands leading private schools. I have to look after the network, servers, desktops, laptops, blah blah blah you get the picture ;)

Overall its a pretty cool and a fairly relaxed job, although working for a bunch of snobs can get a bit tiresome.

IT Support is a good career to get into. Your constantly learning everyday with new and old hardware/software. And the pay just gets better and better the more experience you rack up :yeah:

My ideal job would be manageing a company that was linked to video games in one way or another.

Then again, i think all us gamers dream of working in the gameing industry ;)

i dont.

their usual business model involves getting a bunch of eager young guys who are willing to work themselves to near-death for next to nothing (we'll give you stock options!), crank out a game and perhaps some sequels and then go bust. Everybody makes tons of money except the programmers who are now sitting at home with a burnout and an empty fridge. And if you do survive against all odds after a few years you're too old and expensive and will be replaced by a new victim, fresh out of college and full of dreams.

I like the perks of having a steady job and it leaves me plenty of time to develop my own games and other software.

You make it sounds so glamorous, Mk II
I expected we would have some tech guys here :D

My ideal job would be video game or firearm related. I often dream of having my own MMA school that also was a gun store.
I came very close to having my own school in 2006, but I didn't quite have enough cash to get it going.

I'm a female agent employed by the Carrington Institute to investigate the disappearance of a Dr. Carroll and the possible involvement of DataDyne Corporation. I think my career has affected me badly as for some reason I now seem to run faster sideways than straight and although I can see my hand when I hold a gun, when I look down I can't see my body, legs or feet.

"dream job"

well, my real dream job - as in: it'll never happen in my lifetime - would be to do something (anything!) for Nintendo Benelux. Their head office is just a few blocks from my house so i'm ideally located and of course extremely motivated. And i would work for peanuts! I think they should just give me a job, dont you agree?

yeah, bribery might work... :)

i've actually had the honor and pleasure to be invited to their HQ. When my shining new pre-release DS had a minor hardware problem they suggested i sent it in. I casually mentioned i lived just around the corner and then they said i could drop it off in person. when i got there, the tech guy said it would only take a couple of minutes and would i like to wait around? He took me to a room with a Gamecube and several display cases with "historical" Nintendo products where i waited for my DS to be fixed.

Truth be told: the office itself was just like any other office, certainly not a den of video game freaks. it's mainly marketing & advertising staff, they're not really involved in any product development of course and localization is done by NoE in Germany. Quite a small operation actually for such a big name company.
