It's pretty interesting but the Jap is very thick in this game. Reading the actual story from someone who has finished the game definitely helps finish it.

The translated title does make some sense though as the crisis does happen in the city of Shibuya.

We should sit down and have a chat about it. Quirky Jap titles that will never make it to the US... speaking of never making it to the US...

Tatsunoko vs Capcom is coming to North America!!!!

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/05/tatsunoko-capcom-america/

Being talked about is the possibility for additional characters and new online play (for those that do that).

It is also coming to Europe!
http://gonintendo.com/?p=82991

Huuurraaaaay!

To celebrate this momentous announcement... GOOOOLD LIGHTAAAAAAN!!! :D

Isn't it considered offensive if you say "Jap" instead of "Japanese", or does that apply only when you are referring to a Japanese person?

Yeah I don't think it is common knowledge, but some feel pretty strongly about it. Here's the blog entry I read about it:

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blogArt.cfm?artid=17846

He suggests that if you insist on shortening "Japanese" then you type it as "JPN".
However, I'm not sure if I really agree with this person... in fact, the very title, "accidental racism", seems like a bit of a contradiction. Racism isn't accidental, it is always intentional. There are lots of words which could be considered racist or offensive in certain contexts, but is the answer to avoid them altogether? Given the usage of something like "Jap" it seems like it is easy to tell when it's being used as a derogatory term or just an abbreviation.

In any case, I just thought you might want to know.

To be fair, I do have some beef with them. I guess it's the same as referring to Germans as Jerries, Americans as Yankees, etc. You are right that accidental racism is weak. Racism is always intended and premeditated. I see nothing wrong with abbreviations if there is no malice intended. I have yet to see someone go on a tirade based on that. Guess there's a first for everything.

Metoid Prime Trilogy???

Can you say awesomesauce? Even although Nintendo re-released Metroid Prime 1 and 2 separately in Japan, it looks like they are compiling them into a trilogy for North America (and other regions?). Even if one already owns MP3, this is still a deal since it is $10 less than it would cost to get the two NPC versions separately.

I wasn't expecting this. When was the last time Nintendo released a compilation? They seem content re-releasing their games separately. There are only three others I can think of, which are The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition on the GameCube, Super Mario All-Stars on the Super NES, and the Japan-only Nintendo Puzzle Collection.

Yeah, at least the pricing is better than expected. "Buy this game that you've already bought and played, but it's worth buying again because it uses the wii controller". There's innovation for you! ^_^

In truth I'm glad to see these re-releases but Nintendo are really milking it. How many Gamecube games are gonna be recycled for Wii with nothing more than updated controls and Widescreen support? :-/

I blame Capcom. ^_^ :)

Don't forget that many Wii owners didn't so much as give the Gamecube a passing glance, so this is a great chance for a whole new generation to enjoy these three amazing games. I will most certainly be picking this trilogy up. :)

This game is targeting those who don't already own the originals. All three of the Metroid Prime games didn't sell very well compared to other Nintendo games so there are a lot of Wii owners who have never played them. Besides, it isn't like this is being released in the place of a new Metroid game.

There will be seven games. Nintendo have stated that after this first batch of GCN Wiimakes there won't be any more for "a while". After the last one of them is released I'd imagine it will be at least another year before we see any more, if not longer than that. Whenever there is another hole on the release schedule to fill is when we will see more of them.

I wouldn't blame Capcom, I'd argue that Nintendo started the trend with the Wii port of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

DRE = Disc Read Error

Something is wrong with mine too. It took a nasty 3ft fall around Brawl release. This made the drive more noisy and freezes happen occasionally. At least it doesn't seem to be too serious a problem. It didn't scratch the disc or even stop playing it when it landed upside-down!

Fixed. And if we work together we could write even more Nintendo press releases. :P

Sorry, but that's the same reason that Nintendo always give for re-releasing their back catalogue. I'm okay with that because I like improved versions, but I'm beginning to question how many Gamecube retreads are healthy for one system, especially when the improvements are limited to control updates. Can anyone here think of any other console that has plundered it's predecessor's games libray as much as the Wii has? It just seems very, very lazy. :-/

At this rate Wii's backwards compatibility won't be needed... ^_^

All three of the Metroid Prime games didn't sell very well compared to other Nintendo games so there are a lot of Wii owners who have never played them.
And a lot of Wii owners who won't even consider buying them. Metroid Prime doesn't target the same demographic the Wii Sports/Wii Play/Wii Fit/Mario Kart Wii crowd, so even although this repackage represents good value for money, it's unlikely to sell over one or two million copies. If it sells that.

Metroid Prime already sold 2 million on the Gamecube. Metroid Prime Corruption has sold 1.3 million copies on the Wii since it was released. Just how many more people are gonna buy this?

Plus...

I don't think this is targetted at people who haven't played the first games. I think it's actually targetted at the same people who enjoyed MP3, and who probably played the first two games before that and would like to see the updated controls. Me... for example. I still know it's a cash-in, but it's an attractive package as well so no dount this baby will see its way into my own collection. ^_^

That does suck, man. Is it still in warranty? For all that everyone rants about Nintendo's sturdy hardware, they're still prone to f***ing up (especially the disc systems). My Wii has crashed more times than any of my other consoles although it's never needed repair. I dread DRE's because the Wii disc slot means cleaning the laser will be a real pain in the arse. Same applies to the PS3, although it has been solid as a rock so far.

No, it's not under warranty anymore, so I guess hats off for a system that operated within the warranty period. :-/ I don't know why I'm getting bad Nintendo hardware lately. The gamecube, then my DS cartridge losing saves, now this. At the back of my mind, I was also fearing the lens getting dirty because it would mean I had no chance of cleaning it without prying the damn thing open. This has been a very, very bad day. Only thing positive today was Angels and Demons (nice movie, by the way). Still... ;_;

If you've modified your system to play Japanese games then you voided your warranty anyway.

There is an official lens cleaning kit which is only ten dollars:

http://store.nintendo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=146718&currency=USD&catalogId=10001&tranId=0&lastAction=setCurr&storeId=10001&languageId=-1&categoryId=62707&ddkey=http:SetCurrencyPreference

It sucks that you have to spend some money getting it to work properly but this is worth a shot since it would be significantly cheaper than sending the system in for repairs.

Yeah, I'm going to look for the kits. It's one of my final options aside from taking it to the shop for diagnosis. It's worse than I thought though. I found out my Wii had been scratching game discs these past two days. I know it's dirt because it's the same scratch pattern as the one on my laptop DVD drive when that one got dirty. I actually have coasters for games now. :-/

If it's scratching the discs then surely that must mean the laser has misaligned or something inside is loose? A dirty laser shouldn't cause damage to games, it should only affect the consoles ability to read those games... I think.

Joystiq has an interesting article just now about the state of EA, which is not something i'd normally post into Wii discussion. However, there is one paragraph that's quite interesting and relevant to previous discussions within this topic:

"One also has the company's two big Wii games to consider: EA Sports Active and Boom Blox: Bash Party. EA expects each to sell 1.4 million and 350,000, respectively, but Cowen Research's report doesn't put much stock in third-party success on Wii. Cowen Research is hesitant to value third-party numbers where Rock Band and Guitar Hero figures are ignored, as the top five percent of third-party titles on Wii sold an average of 860,000 copies, compared to the more lucrative numbers of 1.2 million on the PS3 and 2.5 million on the Xbox 360. These games only accounted for 31.8 percent of total game sales on Wii, compared to 34.2 per cent on the PS3 and 41.2 per cent on the Xbox 360".

Just throwing that out there for future discussion... before I play Disaster: Day of Crisis. :)

Sales numbers don't mean much anymore. Developing games for the XBox 360 and PS3 costs exponentially more than it does for the Wii. Come talk to me after some data on profit margins is revealed.

Nintendo loves you, Mop. Third party developers don't seem to agree though, otherwise we (and a lot of other people) would be playing third party Wii blockbusters right now. And guess what...

I'd be very interested to find out how much it costs to develop a Wii game like Dead Space Extraction, No More Heroes, etc, etc... or the Nintendo first party stuff. Can you develop a game for the Wii for 50 cents? Probably. Will it look like total s***? Probably. Will developing a decent looking and well thought out game for the Wii be considerably cheaper than it is to develop a game that can be released on 360/PS3/PC? I suspect there won't be a massive difference.

We might never know for sure since companies don't release that stuff. But No More Heroes was profitable and it didn't break the million mark.

Really this discussion is mostly speculation since we don't know the facts. All we have are sales numbers which are quite misleading for various reasons.

Third party developers are just narrow-minded and believe the future is high-tech and HD, they might as well be called 3rd excuse makers. Nintendo knows the future is fun.

I love how you seperate high tec/HD and fun, as if they're mutally exclusive. Have you ever played a game that you liked that wasn't on a Nintendo system? :o
