- The removal of this gametype can be attributed to the limitations of the Wii and Nintendo WFC. - Blame Nintendo for this one too. - I consider this a positive aspect. For every person talking strategy on XBL there are a hundred spewing insults and racist remarks, and a thousand mutes. - This is valid complaint. - It's a port. Treyarch did a beautiful job porting this game. They knew what would work and what wouldn't when moving the game to a weaker platform, and made the necessary sacrifices. The 95% of the game that remains is a faithful reproduction. Reflex is as close to CoD 4 as the Wii can handle, exactly as a port should be. |

For me, none of that matters, as the Wii version has a feature which makes it far superior to any other version: the Wiimote. What good is a game I can't control? |

Ditto, with one small change: For me, none of that matters, as the Wii version has a feature which makes it far inferior to any other version: the Wiimote. What good is a game I can't control? I just kidding, I've never played the Wii version. But the other Wii FPS I've played haven't had control schemes I've been comfortable with... I much prefer a regular controller. |

I play Modern Warfare Reflex and I happen to like the game regardless of being a 'watered down' port. It's actually a pretty darn good down port. Plus, I actually like the piggy-back coop mode of the game since my brothers can play with me. |

Just out of curiosity, Alxbly, what other shooters have you played on Wii? I know you have Metroid Prime 3, which is a bit different than other shooters, but I thought it had a good control scheme. There wasn't really any customization, though. The Conduit and Modern Warfare both have a lot of control options available to suit many different play styles, though you kind of have to do some trial-and-error with the adjustments. Still, it's something you have to do only once. The default controls for The Conduit are pretty sluggish, they could have done a better job creating a good base to built off. |

Call of Duty 3 The Conduit Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop Dead Space Extraction Disaster Day of Crisis Ghost Squad House of the Dead Overkill Links Crossbow Training Metroid Prime 3 Metroid Prime Trilogy Red Steel Resident Evil 4 Wii Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles Scarface The World Is Yours Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent Not all are straight shooters but all have wiimote gunplay in them. The one I enjoyed most was Dead Rising, then probably House of the Dead Overkill. I don't think I've played a Wii FPS that I've really liked. The Conduit is okay-ish... nothing special though. I'm tempted to sell it.

Any insight into why you haven't really liked them? Is it just the type of games they are? Did they have some annoying elements? Do you just not much care for pointing with the Wiimote? Call of Duty Modern Warfare is probably the best shooter on the Wii, though there isn't a reason to own it if you already have it on another system. Unless someone really wants the Wii controls. I've not heard of Scarface or that Tom Clancy game, are they any good? |

I don't mind pointing with the Wiimote but it rarely feels like an improvement to a control stick, IMO. I think the reason i liked Dead Rising and House of the Dead Overkill (and RE4 Wii!) was that their control system actually worked well, where as in other Wii shooters I've felt that the controls are restrictive or compromised (certainly in Call of Duty 3, Red Steel and Splinter Cell this is the case). Others in the list either aren't all that good, not very exciting or are just not something that I enjoyed all that much. I thought Scarface, Dead Space, Conduit and Disaster were all okay but didn't feel much of an urge to play them afterwards. They might be games I go back to... that often happens. Some of my favorite games of this generation sat unplayed for a long time before I found out how darned good they were (Crackdown, Oblivion, Mirrors Edge, etc). |

Lately I've been wanting to try out some other shooting games, I should put Resident Evil 4 and Dead Rising on my list. I've also been considering getting Call of Duty World at War because I've heard it's good, but it might be too similar to Modern Warfare to be worth it. Have you played that one, alxbly? Is it different enough to warrant having both? |

Yeah, I've played them both. I enjoy most of the Call of Duty games and although these two are kind of similar, there are some big differences in the weapons and settings. If you're gonna play the single player then it's worthwhile to own both but if it's just online deathmatches that you're after then I dunno if it would be worth it. Both are highly polished and good fun though.

I actually haven't touched the single player mode of Modern Warfare, so I guess I should probably try that out before considering getting another Call of Duty game. Speaking of shooters, looks like a sequel to The Conduit is in the works: http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=118915 I really like the gameplay of The Conduit, but the game is lacking in features. With this sequel, I hope the focus is on adding features and not stuffing it with a bunch of unnecessary gameplay conventions which do nothing but break up the action. Local multiplayer doesn't matter to me, as I don't really know anyone who would play a shooter, or at least one on Wii. Online co-op sounds interesting, though. The part about equipping upgrades sounds similar to the "perks" of Call of Duty Modern Warfare. I sincerely hope this game doesn't end up trying to emulate Modern Warfare. |

I think I'm going to sell the Conduit. It's okay, fun in places, but really nothing special when compared to other shooters. It's pretty much as we discussed about two years ago, Mop (was it as long ago as that)? We were both worried that the "second coming" of FPS on Wii would end up being little better than average. It's better than that, but it's still nowhere near being a great game.

Probably going to break down and buy another few retarded Nintendo (and XBL) points cards... need to pick up a few games (not that I'll play them anytime soon). Nintendo (and Microsoft, to an extent) really needs to get with the times and be rid of the whole "point card currency" thing, and just offer games for purchase at their point-currency-equivalents, and not require the consumer to first commit to a point card value before purchasing a game. At least Microsoft offers a growing number of their XBLA games for purchase on Amazon. Nintendo, to date, has ONE. One that I had purchased through Amazon within the first day or so, to voice my (STRONG) support of this means, even though I already owned the game (World of Goo, for PC). Ahhh well. It's tough life being a consumer sometimes. ![]() games currently approved by the floorcat acquisitions committee: Cave Story Bit.Trip whatever Art Style: whatever NyxQuest LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias Maboshi's Arcade You, Me & The Cubes The Magic Obelisk bittos+ Swords & Soldiers Lit Chronos Twins DX |

Conduit 2 looks to be an great game to play. It is very promising and looks to improve upon it's predecessor in most ways. I'm predicting an early 80s score for the game on Metacritic. |

Been pouring time on Red Steel 2 and I'm really, really pleased with the game. The shooting is OK because I don't think it can get any better than other good shooters do. The sword fighting though is highly addictive. Just my two cents. |

Sega: MadWorld on Wii a 'mismatch;' Platinum Games needs power of 360, PS3 From: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/05/sega-madworld-on-wii-a-mismatch-platinum-games-needs-power-o/ "Apparently, the lack of commercial success for MadWorld wasn't due to the game being bad or anything -- it was just that it was on Wii. Sega's Mike Hayes told CVG that the game was a "mismatch with the Wii audience," citing that Sega underestimated the amount of Wii owners who also own other consoles. To him, most gamers looking to experience a Mature-rated game are going to do so on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC ... not the Wii. Hayes was still proud of Platinum's attempt to strike bloody gold on Nintendo's console, but thinks the developer needs the power of the Xbox 360 and PS3 to "realize what they actually want to do." He points to Bayonetta as an example of this, calling it a "very high-quality standard." And by "very high-quality standard," we think Hayes meant "in Bayonetta, you can suplex a damn dragon." |

I'm sure it had nothing to do with things like the game's short length or being in black and white. But hey, it is always easier to blame someone else. Yeah, looks like it. Pretty crazy, huh? Was it at least enough for you to give The Conduit 2 a chance, or are you swearing off Wii shooters? Nintendo recently put up two Wii Shop Channel games on their online store, Super Mario Brothers 3 and Pokémon Rumble. If these help increase sales, I wonder if it means Nintendo will expand the lineup? Personally WiiWare games haven't really captivated me, I don't find most of them to be worth the asking price. I tried the demo of Bit.Trip Beat and even after completing that, it grew tiresome. I have ArtStyle: Cubello, which reminds me of Tetrisphere in a way, though it seems a bit random to hold my interest for long. I played the demo of NyxQuest, it was actually interesting, I might download it. I have the first LostWinds but it didn't compel me. You, Me, and The Cubes was a gift from someone. It's sitting on my SD card, I should try it sometime... The only WiiWare offering I like is ExciteBike World Rally. |

I don't think length has anything to do with it but, yeah, the game was black and white which made it quite niche. I don't see it selling much more even if it was on another platform. I'm not sworn off Wii shooters but for me they need to be able to compete with what's coming out on 360/PS3 and there's only two that I can think of that have really done that. I obviously don't mean graphically, I mean that the controls really have to add somethings and be just right. I think I'll probably pass on Conduit 2 unless I hear and see a lot to change my mind and the price is right... even then the FPS controls of the original were a bit of a bitter pill... I'm unlikely to ever play it. I'm being extremely selective about what games I buy these days, and how much I'm willing to pay so it's not the only title that's getting the cold shoulder. I've even held off on buying Bioshock 2/Mass Effect 2/Uncharted 2/Bad Company 2/Endless Ocean 2 so far ...and those are all sequels that I'd like to try out at some point. |

So as yeh probably know now, I downloaded most of those games I mentioned... and will pick up the remaining ones I hadn't (and likely in addition to some others) sometime this next week or two. And I've not played a single one. However... the Wii is actually, finally getting some lovin' lately!!! I'm about halfway or so through Rooms: The Main Building, and I gotta say... I'm quite pleased with it! While the production values (and, in particular, the story) have been pretty deeply sub-par, the puzzles have been pretty fun and satisfying. Basically, it feels like it would be the perfect PSN/XBLA/WiiWare game. Only it's not... it's a retail release with retail-like prices, and that's probably what keeps it from getting recommended. Still though... interesting puzzles and small-time dev charm (i.e. lack of polish)... I'm satisfied with it. With the Wii turned on after so long, my curiosity finally broke through and I tried out the MotionPlus Wii-extension dongle (for added sensitivity!!!) with Red Steel 2 and Wii Sports Resort. And ZOMG, first impressions were had!!! Popped in Red Steel 2 first, since everyone's been raving about how good it is. Wish I coulda played for more than 10 minutes, before the motion-sickness set in. Hard. Never got to do anything but shoot... couldn't even play far enough to witness the MotionPlus-enhanced controls. I think I shot my 3rd enemy-guy when the urge to vomit was overwhelming. FPS just doesn't work with me. May try the dramamine next time.Next up... Wii Sports Resort, swordplay... OMG HEART SWORDPLAY!! Controls were simple and satisfying... probably would've played a whole lot longer than I did if my arm hadn't started getting sore. Only played swordplay. Didn't even touch any other modes. Probably won't, either... at least until I've had my fill of swordplay. Might even go buy that GhostSlayer WiiWare game. Pity MotionPlus appears to be going the way of the Balance Board...

There are more Motion Plus games than Balance Board games. But yeah, I expected Nintendo would be pushing it more than they have. They're including it with all new Wiimotes, thereby making them cost $10 more, so it's annoying to pay for a useless accessory. Perhaps a big game like Zelda will change things. With Microsoft's Natal and Sony's Move likely being released late this year, Nintendo may start focusing more on Motion Plus to compete with them. Also, with all those WiiWare games, I can't believe Blaster Master Overdrive wasn't on your list! For shame! |

Apologies... although that was included among the "and likely in addition to some others" in my previous post... but to be honest, I'm not terribly keen on the various revival/rebirth WiiWare games... if they're trying to capture the feel of the NES/SNES-era games, I might as well just buy the originals on Virtual Console, which are usually a bit cheaper anyway. I quite literally have a bucket of Wii remote add-ons & accessories. So far, the standard Nunchuck and the Nyko Perfect Shot are the only two that I deem worthy of the space required to keep them. MotionPlus is still in the "battery-leech" category of peripherals, in my opinion. Although, that might change if I start using this spiffy 2nd gen. Energizer Wii remote induction charger I picked up a while back. Still playing Rooms: The Main Building. Still enjoying it. About 6.5 hours in, and guesstimating it's about a 10-hour game. |

Hey alxbly, there are a couple games out now which you might be interested in. Super Mario Kart is now available on the European Virtual Console. If I remember rightly, you said that this was one of the few Super Nintendo games you were going to miss when you sold your Super NES. Also, Rune Factory Frontier was just released in Europe. Are you a fan of Harvest Moon? Because if you are, this game is a must. Just be careful, as you might just become obsessed with this game. Where? I didn't see it. And you've never played the original Blaster Master? For shame! Again! |

Is Wii Sport Resort worth it? I'm hooked with Motion Plus and since I'm using rechargeable batteries, I don't particularly care that it's a bit of a battery drain. Really hooked on Red Steel MP+ sword fighting right now. It keeps reminding me that Tenchu SHOULD have been MP+ enhanced because the sword fighting there was wonky. Tried also Virtua Tennis with and without MP+ and the game is so boring without it. With MP+ enhancement, the game gets incredibly difficult, so much so I think I need tennis lessons. So yesterday I did something I haven't did in a long time, 3 player Super Smash Bros. Brawl, still fun as I remember its just get to play that game with people to often. I remember spending a majority of 2008 playing that game. I probably haven't played the game at my house since last year which is rather unfortunate. Probably won't be able to experience multiplayer Brawl for a long time though. |

I just got Super Mario Sunshine(GameCube) and I decided to test it out on my Wii today but to my horror the left and right c-stick controls seemed to be reversed when I was playing it with an official GameCube controller. I tested Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and the same thing happened! The camera would move to the left when I held down the c-stick to the right and vice versa. Does anybody know what could possibly be causing this problem and how I can possibly solve it? |

I'd recommend checking out a new controller. I had three original GameCube controllers bust out on me this past year. I finally decided to go the ways of the Wavebird and hadn't had any problems since (other than the fact that I have rechargeable batteries that don't recharge). Does anyone know how to check the friend code for the Wii? I've never gotten a chance to play online since I keep telling my friends I still don't know how to look up my friend code

Hmm I have 2 Gamecube controllers (1 official and 1 3rd-party) and both are giving me the same c-stick problems... Anyway, here is how you check your friendcode: On the Wii menu look at the bottom right corner and you will see a letter symbol, press A on it. Then look at the bottom left corner and press A on the symbol of a paper and pencil. Then look at the very right, then press A on the address book. Then it shows you your 16 digit friend code. |

Is that what happens in Mario Sunshire as well? I just tried out Sunshine there using my own controller to see how it works for me. When I push the stick to the right the cammera rotates right around Mario (anti-clockwise). You're saying that doesn't happen with you? And that you've tried two controllers, both with the same results? Very strange.
