I'm sure the Wii Mini was just the result of a math equation at Nintendo. They must still be selling enough Wii consoles to justify making another production run on the Wii. Wii is still selling X units per quarter. Redesign to reduce production costs and milk max profits out of the last run. Just like with the NES and SNES hardware revisions, you lost quality because only RF output was available. We're talking about the absolute LAST Wii hold-outs here. I'm willing to bet a majority of people who purchase a 7 year old console aren't particularly concerned with the features, those missing Wii features hadn't swayed them to this point at least. |

But the major flaw with that equation is not really related with features, quality or bundling choices. It is all about the fact that by launching the Mini while trying to max the profits with the Wii, which was selling well as it was, they destroy the whole purpose of killing the Wii in the first place, which was boosting the WiiU. The situation was already terrible because, from all people, not even the retailers can tell the Wii, WiiU, the pad and everything apart! Now there's another Wii, with extras and at a super price on the shelves. The grandpa goes to the store to get a Xmas present to the little kid that wants a Nintendo. What is he going to buy? |

I forgot to mention that my store got 3 of the Wii Minis last week. Its a cool looking little guy but I'm not sure how well they're going to do at my location. There are so many console packages to choose from right now between the three companies that I wonder how many parents and grandparents are going to be totally lost shopping for systems this holiday season. |

I bought a used game at a local store, came home and I found that it still had the NintendoClub code intact! So I could finally join the club (you know 'cause you can't register your WiiU and digital games before you register some game! [now you can...but then I couldn't])! Except the code expired in 2012. I tried it anyway and it worked! So, if anyone finds expired codes around, just give it a go because it seems like they work anyway! |

Rumors of the Wii's demise are greatly exaggerated. Me and the little woman played Wii Sports Resort last night and it was mad fun.

I just played it the other day and the lobby filled up quickly so I suspect a good number of people are still playing. |

While at Best Buy yesterday I noticed they had a ship load of Wii Mini's available. My advice is to avoid that console like the plague unless you're a collector. The Wii Mini literally represents the worst value in gaming when you consider that the fully functional Wii (sans GameCube backwards compatibility) is still available with both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort for just 30 dollars more. |

they jacked up the price as well on these by 10$ lately. they were selling for 89$ not less than 2 months ago and they're 99$ now. go figure. at 50$ they would sell, but not double. |

The Wii Mini is such a sales disaster here in the U.S. that Nintendo should release the Wii Mini 2 that reintroduces component output, on-line support and an SD slot. Keeping it a top loader with just one USB port in the back would help lower cost below that of the regular Wii. |

I think everyone is jumping the gun on this Wii mini madness. Seriously!! Why buy a last gen console, if you want to buy Nintendo, move to the Wii U TheWii still has some great games to play, but if your looking to buy games and a current system then forget the Wii and move on. |

So you're saying that Nintendo should pull the plug on the Wii entirely? That would leave Nintendo with just the Wii U which is essentially a $300 console. Keep in mind that both Sony and Microsoft undercut that price with their PS3 and Xbox 360, both of which offer up more functionality than the Wii U. My opinion is that Nintendo should continue to offer the Wii Mini at ~ $100 but make it a better value by making the changes I suggested in my previous post. Omitting the ability to output in progressive renders the current Wii Mini obsolete as standard definition televisions aren't even manufactured anymore. |

It'd be interesting to see some Wii Mini sales figures. Doubt that will ever happen. If somebody wanted to get a Wii today, I'd tell them to look for a used one with games. I like the Wii Mini for the novelty of it. It'll be like the NES-101 or SNES-101 in a few years. Those were both inferior hardware to their predecessors too. |

The difference being that the Wii Mini is designed for obsolete standard definition televisions. That wasn't the case for the NES-101, SNES-101 or even the GameCube DOL-101 which were "inferior" to the initial version of their respective hardware but still supported TV standards of the day. |

Well to be fair... in the 90's TV standards had been pretty much the same for 40 years previous. I agree with you though... not much reason to buy a Wii Mini today unless you're a collector. |

Maybe I'm wrong but I believe there's still life left in the original Wii concept. It's got some fantastic first-party games and even a few notable third-party titles. Plus access to the whole Virtual Console library with improved 480p graphics for our favorite N64 classics. The Wii Mini omitting component output is unforgiveable. Likewise errantly removing on-line support for apts like Netflix. Nintendo just went too cheap but that could be easily rectified with a new and improved Wii Mini 2. Such a console with Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Wii Sports Resort as pack-in for around $120 would be perceived as an irresistible bargain. It makes good business sense for Nintendo to restore the on-line functionality so that people can purchase profitable Virtual Console titles, too. A Wii is a fantastic machine even if used just to play N64 era games like Wave Race 64, Majora's Mask and Sin & Punishment in progressive scan. Nintendo can recoup money there as all those games have been amortized years ago. |

Well think about it for $300 you got a brand new console with online functionality way better than the wii, HD graphics, essentially an entire Wii inside of the systems menu, Miiverse, Wii U games, and of course the gamepad so I see that as a better value than a wii just my opinion though |

Not really related to the discussion here, but I just noticed a Marketplace seller on Amazon is selling Rhythm Heaven Fever for less than $10 shipped. A pretty insanely good deal, if you ask me!! I never played this on the Wii, but Rhythm Heaven on my DS has at least a dozen or so hours logged on it. Another seller is offering Bit.Trip Complete for basically the same price! |

Since a Craig's List seller sold me an original series backwards compatible Wii for just $8.00 I now have one connected to my big screen TV again. Such a great console to enjoy so many of my favorite GameCube games like Melee, Double Dash and F-Zero GX.

I just got Donkey Kong Kong Country Returns for the Wii (I only learnt about this existence the other day) and I've only played the first two levels but wow I love it. I particularly like how it has gone to the snes style whilst involving wii motion controls. Love it.

Connected a Wii to my 20 inch Toshiba CRT today. Just wanted to see how it looked since I'd never connected a Wii to that particular TV before. I used a universal S-Video that's also designed to work with the PS2 and original Xbox. The results weren't bad. I played Mario Kart Wii on it for a while and remembered pretty quickly why I love that game so much. Still plenty of life left in the original Wii and I wouldn't be at all disappointed if it was the only video game console I owned even in this day and age.

Agreed Grizz, the Wii is a great console and it is under appreciated by most people and should be respected more for having great games. Mario Kart, both Mario Galaxy games, both Zeldas and that's just scratching the surface. |

I used to recommend the N64 as the best video game console to take off to college or university but I'd probably recommend a backwards compatible Wii if somebody asked me my opinion today. A lot of that has to do with how reasonably priced the Wii and its software is, plus the recent reissue of the GameCube controller, and not necessarily because the Wii is an intrinsically better console. The Wii U is still a little too pricey to get the Grizzmeister endorsement of best console to have in the dorm, but fortunately the original Wii's games and peripherals are compatible with it. This can come in handy if a college student should come in to money at a later time and date.

never thought i would say this but i'm beginning to feel some interest in the wii. it has several key titles that were missing on the gamecube, the most obvious being donkey kong country returns. currently i have 5 wii games i consider worth playing: - new mario bros wii - donkey kong country returns - sin & punishment - skyward sword - metroid prime 3 corruption combined with the gamecube library (its backwards compatible with games / controller) this makes for a great backlog for the wii! any other games you would recommend? |

The Wii is an awesome console. It's small, it has a large library with a good number of multiplayer games. It has the Virtual Console. It has Gamecube support. If you install the Homebrew Channel it gives you access to a lot of functionality, including unofficial Nintendo Wi-Fi connection servers, thus prolonging the console's online multiplayer. It's overall a really awesome console for what it offers. Unfortunately, it was basically a last gen console by the time it launched. However, issues like that become irrelevant when it's contemporary consoles become outdated as well. Then it comes down which consoles has more fun games, not which console is more advanced. |

That is very well said @action: if you are looking for any multiplayer options, Wii Sports Resort (sword/platform battle esp.) and Mario Kart Wii are fantastic options, particularly with the motion controls. For single player, I'd add Link's Crossbow Training, which is a shooter I really enjoyed. |
