Get N or get out!
It doesn't really matter, a menus a menu. I will agree on the "wrist strap warning" screen being a pain in the ass though. :-/

I thought this was pretty cool when they announced it... though the idea of yet another object that requires/drains batteries is kind of discouraging... to say the least. >_>

Anyone really have any problem with the length/presence of the wire between the two??!?

Agreed. And w/o the wire between them, the phone cord execution in Manhunt 2 would seem just so... contrived. <_>

Hm, it looks like the receiver has a plug on it. Could you plug in another Nunchuck too? Just in case you have three arms...

The only time I find it to be a minor annoyance is in Wii Sports boxing. But it's not so annoying that I'd spend money on a wireless nunchuck.

I can't think of anything else where the wire is a problem...

Cool. The Wiimote feels better with the jacket on (IMO) but it's a pain in the backside when you need to change batteries.

You need to provide a serial number. I'm not sure if they will provide free jackets to people that bought their hardware after they started including the condoms jackets. I also wonder if there is a limit to how many you can order before they stop honoring your requests.

That's cuz you're TWICE the man anyone else is. Here, let me illustrate in snowmen:
:bigsnowman: = alxbly
:snowman: = anyone elseIn summary: :bigsnowman: > :snowman:
So I doubt the new Wiimote jacket would rectify in this sense... but anyone else's wrists feel at all cramped from over wii-ing wii-remote-ing??

Perhaps I haven't sat in front of the TV long enough to evolve into a more efficient remote controller... but I find holding the wii-remote to point at the screen for extended periods (for me, anything longer than 20 minutes) is the equivalent of DEATH to my wrist. And from all the biking I do/have done, I doubt my wrists are at all weak. Couldn't they have made the remote more ergonomic by tilting the head of the remote downwards by about 45 degrees, so you're holding the remote FAR more comfortably... like holding a handle of a gun... or even tilt it to an even 90 degrees so it'd be like holding a slurpee (very ergonomic). I'd even get/use a zapper, but that means you can only use the B trigger button. <_<

So, even though we all know of the "all-inclusive" nature of the Wii, having heard such clichéd stories for over a year now, I thought I'd add to this topic, as last night was the first time I had really experienced such Wii powers first-hand, and I was really, really quite amazed. Like panty-soiling amazed.

As I have no friends nor family nearby willing to share their holiday moments with me (boohoo), a co-worker had invited me to her husband's family's Christmas dinner. Not really pertinent to the story, but this family is a very... British family (Ee bah gum!!) (pronounced: eee bai goom), so I'd also received my first exposure to such... Englishness. Which essentially seemed to translate to poking fun at all things American. Or female. Or any gender or nationality. Yes, even the Scots were ridiculed at last night's dinner table. ;) It was great. Plus the food. I've never seen so many different kinds of meat not from the ocean, all on one table!

Anyways, the only thing my co-worker's father-in-law, a man of about 60(?) wanted for Christmas was a Wii(!!!), and his son had barely managed to get him one... and after our jolly good time eating and having fun at others' expense (not to mention numerous elderly males chanting "Wiiiiiiiii" sprinkled throughout), we carried on to the "play room" where "the lot" of us had stationed ourselves for the next 6 hours. Straight. Flailing wildly while giggling uncontrollably. Extra "wildly" and "uncontrollably" were possibly on account of some Australian port & Baileys. There were 9 of us, almost equal numbers in gender, and the average age was probably about 45 (I was definitely the youngest), and I was amazed to see everyone going nuts! Even the skeptic Wii-buying son, who was apparently more of what some might classify a "graphics-whore" was totally into it, after an initial 30-min eye-rolling period. I even caught the elderly proud-Wii-owner browsing through Nintendo's website (!!!!) when it was someone else's turn.

Having owned one for almost a year now, I'm ever more amazed now at the Wii's ability to capture the "non-gamer" crowd... and honestly, I think I'd actually prefer to be amongst a bunch of "non-gamers" playing - even just watching them play - some casual games than being by myself going through an epic on-screen "hardcore" adventure. :ph43r:

It amazes me too. I've played the Wii with just about everyone who has visited my house, regardless of how much they are or aren't into games. I can't see me ever sitting down to a game of Gears of War with my father, but he can play Wii Sports and seems to really enjoy it. One of my mates who was an avid PC gamer was instantly won over by the Wii. It's an incredible console.

I don't want to stray off topic but without knowing it you've summed up the appeal of Xbox Live. You don't need to play games alone as you can very quickly make a new group of friends who play the same games you do. In a weird way it's kinda like a forum; you never see these people in real life but after playing a few games with them and speaking to them online you feel like you know them. A huge part of the appeal of the 360 for me is now online play.

As you guys may have guessed already. ^_^

I dunno alxbly... from what I hear... and I admit that this is just from what I've heard from multiple sources throughout the bulk of the last two years, and NOT from first-hand experience... but it sounds like Xbox Live is full of douchebags.

Wait, I take that back... I do have first-hand experience... every time one of my roommates is playing 360 online, either he'll be exclaiming "this guy's such a douchebag!!" or "the other guy" will be screaming some very douchebaggish things. BUT... I imagine that it might just be a regional thing... or maybe depends on the game being played (which is sadly limited to either Halo 3 or COD4). Or maybe it's just my roommate. Again, I admit... my exposure to Xbox Live as such is still pretty minimal.

In the end... I think I'll reserve ~the internet~ as my one channel for "getting to know random people" :P I'll let all the diehards/hardcores mingle amongst themselves while I down a few and actually watch people physically make fools of themselves, just as they do likewise for me... ;)

I'm not trying to convince you Mr Floorcat, I'm just saying what I (a total online n00b and definitely not a harcore/diehard gamer) have experienced in the first month I've been gaming online. :)

Like any part of the internet, there are douchebags but I either mute them, leave them poor feedback, or just play another game elsewhere. Once you've created friends lists (which is ridiculously easy... no codes required!) you can play just solely with the people you want to by hosting private games. Douchebags really aren't a problem.

The perception of Xbox Live play being somehow "hardcore" is as wrong as the perception of Nintendo consoles being kiddy. Of course you'll get the people who think they're "hardcore playaz" (or "chumps" as I like to call them) but most people are just there to have fun. And it's not like Live means you can never play with "real" people again. It's just another way to have a fun multiplayer game when you've no-one else in the house who wants to play.

Fair enough. ;)
Yeah... like I said, I've really very little knowledge of & exposure to Xbox Live (like the fact that you can leave feedback is completely new news to me!).

Though I will (perhaps ignorantly) continue to believe that the hardcore to casual ratio is definitely far in favor of the former over the latter for Xbox Live. AND that the same goes for the Wii crowd and casual gamers.

Perhaps in another lifetime, you might even see a "floorcat" gamertag.

So I went home to visit with the family that I hate and friends I don't like, so I figured it was a perfect time to play with my Wii (tee hee!). Except I left the sensor bar behind. Being the cheap person that I am, I refuse to buy a sensor bar that I already own, so I looked for cheap alternatives. I stuck two candles that I had on top of the TV. Surprisingly this works.

Pros:
-Play the Wii without the sensor bar.
-It's more festive than a sensor bar.
-An excuse to play with fire.

Cons:
-As you play, the flames grow dimmer, so you need to lean forward.
-After about 5 minutes, you'll be adjusting the candles/your distance so you can still play.
-A disaster with the wax is likely.
-I've had disasters with the wax.
-Wax... everywhere!

 Very cool. I've heard that you can also use two remote controls. There's a youtube video but there's so many with the terms "wii" and "remote control" that I can't find it.

So, what you basically do is find a remote control button that emits a continuous signal (the volume up/down buttons usually work) and have the remotes where the sensor bar would be. They need to be about six inches apart and you'll need to hold down the volume button on each one. The person holding both remotes needs to keep them quite steady, which in turns means they probably aren't going to be having much fun.

Also, it's a good idea to find remotes that don't correspond with the equipment you're using to play the wii, for obvious reasons.

^_^

It's funny you should bring this up, as I have another little tidbit to share. As I was visiting with that same grandmother over Christmas, I had a somewhat unsettling discovery: She had sold the Wii! What she had planned to with it was set up a Wii Bowling league with her friends, but her apartment home wouldn't let her set it up in the activity room. I guess she felt no compelling reason to keep it otherwise. That's too bad... If I had been informed of this incident, I would have offered to buy it!

Since I have received quite a bit of cash over the holidays, I thought that it's about time I bought a Nintendo Wii.

...but I can't find one anywhere! I know the Christmas rush had cleared them out, but I thought that was over by now.

I already called every GameStop in my area, and they all said the same thing: they won't get any more until February; one store even said March. Other stores like Best Buy have said they don't know when they'll get more shipments in, which I guess isn't surprising.

So what should I do? I've never attempted to buy something that's so popular it sells out instantaneously, not even a Tickle-Me-Elmo. Got any friendly advice? Do I have any hope of finding one soon, or will I have to wait until February/March?

Phone stores which sell consoles but aren't dedicated games stores; Toys R Us, K-Mart (do they sell consoles across there, they do in the UK), Target, any department stores you can think of, music stores, etc.

And if you still can't find one then:

a) try eBay
b) google search "Wii shipments"
c) cry like a baby

I guess I should have specified that I want to find one at the normal retail price and don't want a used one. This means no eBay and no $700 bundles from Toy's 'R Us.

Hm... This has produced some interesting results.

Done and done! ;_;

K-Mart has an electronics department, but there aren't any in my area.
I've heard from several sources on the Internets that Wal*Mart will be selling some tomorrow. I'll probably head down when they open and see what happens.

Oops, I actually meant Wal-Mart. Over here they're called Asda. Most of their stuff is cheaper than cheap (and the staff... <_< ) but they do sell consoles at a decent price.

Interesting that Toys R Us will only sell bundles. This is what put me off getting a 360 at launch, since the console was £300 but then the cheapest deal was a bundle with 4 games and it ended up being about £450. And I didn't want four games, especially not the four games you were forced to buy with the console (I remember King Kong was part of every bundle, I already had King Kong for PS2 and it was crap).

So I told the store to go **** themselves. ^_^

My brothers girlfriend also sold her Wii just before xmas (due to getting bored of Wii Sports). I guess that might be the flaw in Nintendo's targeting of non-gamers. Non-gamers aren't likely to buy many games.
