Has anyone here ever duelbooted?

Want I basically want to do is have

1 Windows 7 install for internet
1 Windows 7 install for games

I can do Homepremium/Ultimate installs

Also is it possible to have certain files/installs accessable on both installs?

Why do you need the same OS twice? Did you mean to type something different, like Windows 7 for the 'net, and XP for games?

Anyway, you can dual boot operating systems, with some limitations, but I've never heard of anyone dual booting the same operating system twice or more.

What OSs do you have in mind, what do you want to do with them, and what games or other programs do you Want to run? For example, if your PC is fast, then you'll be OK with just Windows 7 on there, as it runs almost every Windows game and application fine, and the things you can't run (DOS stuff, mainly) you can use in DOSBox, as your machine will be fast enough to emulate a decent DOS PC.

On the other hand, if your PC is slower, then DOSBox might not be fast enough for any DOS games that you want to use (I'm not saying that you want to play DOS games, I'm just using this as an example), and so to use them on your PC you'll need either a native operating system (DOS, or Windows 95/98 (choose 98 over 95 any day!)), or if you're lucky you can get them working in XP with VDMSound.

It all depends on the your PC and what programs you want to run. Please give us more details and we'll do what we can to help. PCs are a git to get right sometimes, but when they work they can be great.

I haven't finished specs yet

But I was thinking

One Windows 7 Ultimate install for Work/Internet and social programs (Like Messenger etc) then another home premium install just for games, That way I don't have to worry about leaving programs running and some anticheats kicking me for a program running in the background

Sorry, I didn't know you'd replied (I've not been on the 'net much recently).

I can't advise you, I'm afraid, in dual booting the same OS twice, but even if it is possible, it does seem overkill, why not just install Windows 7 once, and use multiple user accounts. Say one called "Gamer" for games, and one called ""Serious use" for the other things? Won't that do what you want?

Anyway, let us know what you decide, and how you get on. It's interesting to learn what is possible with PCs.

Ah, I thought that using different editions (Ultimate and Home Premium) would count as a different OS, I guess I'll just wait and see when the time comes. I was just thinking about anti cheats a little bit, Since I don't want any false positives (Punkbuster I'm looking at you)

Using different accounts makes a lot more sense.

Well, usually Linux for your "serious" computing makes a lot more sense to me, but that's neither here nor there.
