Probably the stupidest topic ever posted on N64 Forever, but here goes... Today I was talking to a bloke about gaming, and it reminded me of something I read in a post on another forum (Gamefaqs, I think). The poster was talking about how large his backlog of games he was waiting to play was (and I posted myself, as I'm in the same boat), and (s)he said something like "I half wish they'd stop making games, so I could stand a chance of playing my backlog of games without it growing faster than I work through it". I think it's a terrible idea, of course, and thankfully it's not going to happen. The games industry makes more money in one year than I'd make in tips if I'd taken that job as a male stripper*, and it won't ever die, at least until better technology makes computer games obsolete, but in a way I did slightly agree with the poster's sentiments. I mean, if tomorrow all games stopped being made (and I mean across the board, commercial, homebrew, console, computer, all video games) then yes, we'd all be able to concentrate on existing games. And we'd have a huge range of fantastic games that to many people would easily fill a lifetime. I myself have a stack of games for various machines that I've bought but not yet played, plus a load of games that I want to replay through again. We might see a revival of interest in the N64 too! And collectors might prefer it if no more games were ever made, as they'd have definite lists then of games and systems that they'd need to complete their collections. Or would they? Although after a while I think that most people who welcomed the stoppage would begin wishing that new games were being made again. Partly since ever increasing technology makes so much more possible (even if most games sadly only use this increase in power to generate better graphics), and also the hope that original and ever better games might emerge. Anyway, what about it? Anyone actually think it would be good if new games stopped being made? Or do you think it would be terrible? Personally I'm glad it won't ever happen, but a small part of me (my brain, probably!) thinks that if games stopped being made for, oh, say five years, then that might be nice, as I could fill those years up with my current backlog of games (the Zelda games, Morrowind, Knights of the Old Republic, Oblivion, Mass Effect 2, Eternal Darkness, etc, etc, bloody etc). So, does anyone wish that new games would stop being made? I really don't think anyone will say yes, but I'm curious to see if anyone does, and if so, why? * With my life, current relationship, and lack of free time, I'm not only allowed to live in a dream world, I'd be insane not to! |

NO! He is confused. He just needs to make better choices with his gaming time. Evaluate the games you are interested in, and budget what you get/play around that. There are dozens of games I would love to have/play, but I just do not have the time or money to do so. Sometimes that means missing out on some great games, but there is only so much time in a day. |

To be honest I haven't been very excited for new games/systems in the past couple years. The last time I got really really hyped was for the original DS. I also got pretty hyped for the "Revolution" and Brawl. I'm pretty satisfied with the systems out today I mean there are alot. And theres TONS of great games I could never own them all ...I don't know I guess yea maybe no yes possibly. It would be funny just imagine all the game companies releasing a statement simultaneously: "We will no longer make new games. That is all." I always wished Nintendo would make a new game for each old system or at least the N64. |

Yes it would be good if they stopped making new games. Just let Duke Nukem Forever get released first. I am so uninspired and uninterested in new games. All the best games have already been made. |
