Gas prices...

Just wasted $50 on gas and didn't even fill my little car's tank!! :( I thought I'd have like 15 bucks after that but I looked in my wallet and realized I only have $3 now :( My car's clutch is slipping bad and its not helping my mileage...For now I'm hypermilling just to save gas, (coast a lot, rarely brake and accelerate slow). I'm seriously considering getting a moped. But they're are so uncommon around here I'd probably get hit by a car XD.

I really hate spending money on things that don't last (that's why I like collecting things like games) The worst thing is its gonna raise the price on everything that gets shipped (everything).

Express your feelings on gas prices :)

Maybe it will cheer you up a bit to know that here in Holland we pay approx. 1.80€ or 2.57$ per liter.
That's a whopping 9,72$ per gallon... feeling better already?

I'm lucky though... i drive a very fuel-efficient Vespa instead of a car and use less than 2 gallons per week.

holy crap, man that sucks...
My brother drives 100 miles a day just to go to work and back and his car gets 20mpg so thats at least $20+ every day.
I actually probably will get a moped this summer...too bad its too cold 1/2 the year.

mopeds in general and Vespa's in particular are very cool (no pun intended) and you can dress against the cold or rain.
But i wont drive mine when there is snow or ice on the roads. Thats my only gripe; they're not really safe in wintery weather conditions.
OTOH: you cant beat 90+ miles per gallon

Snow in April

Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
Sometimes I wish that life was never ending,
But all good things, they say, never last...

BTW: this is my pride & joy (Vespa LX50 4T4V)

Heeyyy..... I like that Vespa. I wished I could drive something like that to work.

The one thing that burns me about the rising gas prices is.. When the gas price goes up everything you need and purchase goes up. I feel like I am not only buying my gas but everyone elses too. :read:

ditto !
i've added lots more chrome since that picture was taken so it's even prettier now :)
it really is my pride and joy and makes me feel good (and a bit of Italian cool) whenever im riding it.
Vespa is like the Mercedes-Benz of the scooter world; nobody builds a better or more stylish model.
And the price level is about the same too :nope:

true... and eventually it will be the end of all those cheap Chinese imports.
I just hope that by that time we will still remember how to actually make stuff.

Check out this story of someone wanting to have a "gas out" day in 1999 when prices were at a whopping $1.13/gallon lol...

We're undergoing a lot of turmoil here in the United States and higher gas prices are just one thing we're going to have to get used to. Ultimately the American people need to realize that the standard of living in the US is dropping like the proverbial stone as the house of cards built on cheap credit continues to collapse.

Just this week our stock market buckled because of news that the United State's debt rating might be lowered from AAA to AA+. Seems many lenders in the world feel that just like the European PIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain) the US needs some sort of austerity measure to get itself out of a staggering amount of debt.

It's not just our government that can't control spending either. Many Americans are driving around in huge highly leveraged sport utility vehicles that are literally as big as school buses. While mopeds don't make sense on American roads and our mass transit system is a joke we still haven't embraced affordable small fuel efficient vehicles to the extent that reality dictates and there in lies the problem. We Americans are our own worst enemy when it comes to being good stewards of our planet and its resources. It's sad. ;_;

Argh! fuel prices

Up to £1.36 a litre here now. The thing is, its not just fuel prices that have gone up here, car insurance has, car tax and the yearly cost to put your car through an MOT (saftey check) has also gone up.

I'm not actually sure how much further this country wants us to bend over and take it up the a$$. We've already had massive riots in London due to other cuts the government has proposed, at this rate there going to have a full scale war provoked by the public.

well, the idle rich have been waging a class war for the last 30 years and working people are beginning to wise up to the fact that the game is rigged against them.
The rich get much richer, the poor remain poor and the middle class gets squeezed into oblivion to pay for the bonuses and tax credits for the super-rich.
Democracy has been corrupted into an unholy mixture of plutocracy and kleptocracy.

So yes, perhaps the time is right for fighting in the streets and some good old revolution... off with their heads!

Random story but, I remember a rich guy ahead of us at Safeway bought over $800 in food and my dad let him use his Safeway card which saved him over $150 and the guy didn't even care. He was just like oh......cool...

I've never been an advocate of class warfare as it never leads to anything productive.

I'm also not an advocate of corruption and that appears to be what's going on in the oil markets. The Obama administration here in the US recently announced that investigations will begin to "root out" cases of fraud and manipulation in the oil markets. This seems like a VERY good idea to me as gas prices are no longer really being determined by supply and demand as proven by the fact that OPEC will actually reduce supply in response to lower consumption.

Just a little information to those of you outside the US; we're like a third-world country now with widespread corruption in everything from big business to government. Our federal budget spends much too heavily on defense and government officials who espouse continuing that reckless behavior are supported by the national propaganda machine we have here called Fox News. One such politician is a congressman by the name of Paul Ryan who is actually suggesting cutting healthcare benefits to the elderly before cutting spending on defense. Sounds like something the evil regime of North Korea would do doesn't it?
