Nintendo 64 Hori Mini Pad Color Variations and Pricing Guide

Posted Image

The Hori Mini Pad controllers for the Nintendo 64 were released late in the Nintendo 64's lifespan by a company called Hori. The controller features only two handles and has a joystick similar to the Gamecube's joystick, although the Hori's are slightly bigger. People with large hands might find using the controller straining on their wrists due to the controller's narrow design. The controllers were released in packaging (image above) and to find them in the packaging makes the controller much more rare and pricey (generally going for over $100 each).

The Hori Mini Pad is said to be a great fix for the joystick issue of the Nintendo 64 controller, and it is commonly viewed that the joystick of the Hori Mini Pad will last as long as a Gamecube joystick.

In terms of PC compatibility, the Hori Mini Pads are known to not work with many PC adapters. If you look then it is possible to find an adapter that works. May I suggest one of these that are known to work with the Hori Mini Pads:

Yeah, the prices listed are rather optimistic.

I can find them for those prices in Japan with a little effort. I would be surprised to get them outside of Japan for those prices, though.

It's absolutely worth getting one -- not for collecting so much as for playing, though. They're soooo much better than the original controllers, and are probably my second favorite controller after the GCN controller.

I'd like to try a Hori pad with Super Smash Bros. to see if there's any difference when performing smash attacks. The new replacement third-party sticks while nice are a little finicky with forward smash attacks thus many purists stay away from them even if their stick is badly worn.

The prices might be a little optimistic but the buy it now listings on ebay are overpriced. If you know a friend in Japan they definitely sell there for much, much less than the asking prices on Ebay. The prices are more of what I would say are fair deals as opposed to the higher end values.

Yes, but the 2 tone HORIs cannot be separated (in my opinion).

This guy's work with the Hori as well:

http://spawnlinux.dyndns.org/Bliss-Box/index.html

I have both the Raphnet and the Bliss Box. The Bliss Box works with rumble, which no other USB adapter that I know of does except the impossible-to-find Adaptoid.

These two guys apparently know each other, by the way, and I think they help each other to some degree. The Bliss Box guy links to Raphael's website and praises him highly.

That particular Hori pad I saw go for 70 was in an auction and not a BIN.

Hori pads in the UK are extremely rare so any that get listed on ebay would sell for 70 all day long I would imagine.

That is very interesting and a very very high price to pay for them. If I need to sell any more of them I should post to the UK!

As far as I know they're licensed and that's why they have the official N64 logo on them.

Never tried one of these. If you were to play 2 hours non-stop, would you use a Hori pad or an official N64 pad?? :)

For me it would no doubt be the Hori pad.

I have four of them: green, yellow, clear red, clear blue. I love them to death. The Hori breathes new life into platformers and racing games. They're a bit sensitive for shooters, so I use an original controller for Jetforce Gemini, but I can't imagine playing Banjo or DKR or Zelda without one.

I wonder if we could ever convince Hori to start remanufacturing their N64 Mini Pad?

It'd be nice to have the re-issue available with either a standard N64 connector or USB or perhaps even both. Surely this would help justify manufacturing costs.

I know this topic is about the Hori Mini, but I was curious if anyone has ever tried the other Hori 64 controller: the Hori Commander.

Posted Image

The shape reminds me of other third-party controllers, but the button layout/positioning of A, B, and C's is interestingly lined up. Without seeing one in person, the joystick appears to mimic the OEM style. Anyway, be curious if anyone had one of these, as all the talk goes towards the Hori Mini.

Hori controllers for :n64: are the REAL DEAL!

Also, has anyone yet found the mysterious translucent Orange HORIpadmini 64??? It is the only one i am missing.

If this controller really exists- then judging by the color scheme from the ONLY known pictures, it wouldn't surprise me if this was a FUKUOKA Daiei HAWKS variation.

Although it is just my theory, all the signs point to YES.

the search continues...
